I was impressed and reassured by the fact that For Pets’ Sake has a dedicated cat groomer specifically. Everyone in the shop was very kind and professional. Lee was so sweet with my cat. I got a standard cat grooming session which includes bath, brush, cut, nail trimming, and ear cleaning for $160. I asked them to skip the cut and just give her a sanitary cut in the back. She came home clean and refreshed and I was happy with the ear cleaning and nail trimming. Definitely recommend! Of course she is now grooming herself to put her own touches on it 😂

The front desk is helpful, and the other staff are all courteous and friendly! Burton likes the ability to migrate back and forth between the “Sweet” and “Salty” rooms. I like that they have daycare packages that don’t “expire” each month. And the boarding options are super flexible too. Important to note they are closed for drop off or pick up between noon-2p, and after 7p.
Burton has occasionally used their spa services like bath time and a nail trim. He always had a good experience.

I normally only have my dogs groomed with a Thera-Clean bath, and since I was away from home in California, I was a little nervous about taking them somewhere new. From the moment I called, they were wonderful. They answered promptly, were able to get me scheduled quickly, and most importantly, they listened to and followed all of my grooming instructions exactly as I requested.
My dogs came out looking absolutely beautiful, clean, and well cared for. I really appreciated how accommodating and attentive they were, especially being someone who is very particular about how my dogs are groomed. I was very happy with the service and the results. Whenever I’m back in town, I will definitely bring my dogs here again. Highly recommend! ❤🐶

6137 Franconia Road, AlexandriaHometown Veterinary Clinic provided exceptional care for my cat as she crossed the rainbow bridge. On Friday morning I took my 2 1/2 year old cat, Freya, to this vet and the employees there were immediately gentle and kind, taking their time with getting Freya's vitals since she was super lethargic. When her blood work came back with dire results, they were able to welcome me back a few hours later, this time with my boyfriend since he was off work by then, without an appointment so that we could say our goodbyes to her. Dr. Sarcon took care of Freya for both appointments and I couldn't have asked for anyone better, as she was so understanding with how devastated my boyfriend and I were over losing our cat at such a young age. The vet techs were also amazing, especially the one who was there when we put Freya to sleep. She explained that she was the one to trim a piece of fur as a keepsake and made sure to keep note of which section we wanted trimmed. Although we lost our beloved girl that day, I can't thank Hometown enough for their exceptional care.

I've gone here for 3ish years and overall have had positive experiences. One note for me is they've been very flexible and timely with scheduling versus some vets that I have to wait a week or more to get an appointment. They do seem to be lower volume than other offices I've been to, and have gone through a total of 4 primary care vets for different pets. The staff are always friendly and everything is clean.
They will take the pet to the back for certain services, which isn't preferred but MOST do this. Prices are decent. Maybe not best, but not bad. They've been very responsive regarding communications, records, inquiries, medication management, etc.

First was a short notice appointment for our pup who had a UTI/bladder infection and needed testing/treatment. They were quick, prompt, and thorough and everyone there was so friendly. The second was a scan of a runaway dog that had ended up on our property. They scanned the dog, got the chip number, called the chip company who had PetSmart listed as the last registry for the chip. They gave a name and number of the last known owner. They called that person who said they had surrendered the dog to a shelter. They then called the shelter and got the name of the adopter. They left a message for the adopter who eventually called them and they gave him our name and number. End of that story was a successful reunion of the dog and owner. Emmavet went out of the way to help and we would totally recommend them to anyone. Plus they have great hours.

6940 South Kings Highway Suite 208, AlexandriaWe’re new clients, but as a cat owner I am already blown away by Harmony Vet’s style. They have a system of operational and environmental adjustments that just make sense and I think would be welcome by fellow cat parents:
• They first have a televisit with you to get to know you and your pet, to know what to expect from your pet’s temperament for the visit, and to cut down on time spent on site in an exam room.
• They have separate entrances for dogs and cats. When you arrive, you call the office before entering to make sure you can easily enter. When you do enter, there is no waiting room time—you just go straight into the exam room.
• Cat exam rooms include space to climbing and toys.
• My kitty doesnt like vets, which I warned our vet about. My cat didn’t leave her carrier when I opened it, so Dr Allison just crouched right on the ground to get close to her rather than immediately having my kitty out of her safe spot.
• During the exam, my cat was distracted with treats and was more comfortable with a heating pad on the table.
• My kitty still isn’t a fan of vets, but she was distracted enough to not be miserable and our easy transition from car to exam room also made a difference, along with the pre-visit telehealth call.
I have been going to a cat-exclusive vet for years but have never before felt so catered to for my cat’s needs. 💜

The kennel manager Joey I believe is his name always assures that my pets are taking care of. Don’t let the comment below of him being rude discourage you from coming to this amazing establishment. I will be reporting the comment about Joey being rude, he is always helpful to me and I have seen him go as far to checking in my appointments and checking me out in the room since my animals are dog reactive. The front desk is also so helpful and doctors they’re just very lovely people. I always recommend Dr.Tobar since he is bilingual and my family mostly speaks Spanish very easy on us.

We ended up coming back 2 nights of our stay to get gelato because it was so tasty! Plus they have pup ice cream cups that were a hit!
They also have a dog friendly patio around the back which is always appreciated and benches out front for outdoor seating along with a small indoor area.

Mount Purrnon Cat Café + Wine Bar
109 South Alfred Street, AlexandriaMount Purrnon has been such a source of joy for my family this year! We visited in January and had a lovely time petting the cats! One of them, Sweet Pea, was a particular favorite, and we ended up adopting her. She has been a wonderful addition to the family.
Our experience with Mount Purrnon was so great that my daughter decided she wanted to have her 11th birthday there. She invited several of her friends and they all had a blast with the cats. The staff was so helpful and made sure the party was going smoothly. They were also very accommodating of tween birthday activities in their cafe afterward. Could not recommend more highly! Thank you!

Animal Welfare League of Alexandria
4101 Eisenhower Avenue, AlexandriaI adopted a very sweet kitty from ALWA. The volunteers were so kind and helpful. They also were fastidious about making sure visitors washed hands between interactions. I had a follow up question the next day. The operator was extremely helpful. I would definitely adopt from them again.
