Olde Towne School For Dogs
529 Oronoco St, AlexandriaI had a great experience working with Aliyah as my pup Lonnie’s trainer over 6 sessions. She’s extremely knowledgeable and does an excellent job clearly articulating each session so everything feels structured and easy to follow. Her approach is practical and effective, and I saw noticeable improvements in Lonnie’s behavior in a short amount of time. She’s patient, professional, and clearly passionate about what she does. I highly recommend her to anyone looking for a trainer who is organized, knowledgeable, and delivers real results.

From Head to Tail Grooming Spa
430 Hume Ave, AlexandriaAfter 2 years out of the country, the first call I made once we had a move-back date was From Head to Tail for my 10 yr old pup and new 10 month puppy! The older pup loved their microbubble baths when we lived here before and for 2 years I struggled to find a place that did good work and didn't stress her out. So happy to be back! The minute we opened our car door and she caught a familiar sniff she perked up and ran in. The 10 mo old pup is a wirehair mix and we are still figuring out her coat, the grooming staff understood and when we picked her up she was calm and happy, the perfect response from a pup still getting used to grooming. Can you find a cheaper dog bath or DIY? Sure. But after two years of alternatives, I truly love their approach to crates and handling dogs, trust their suggestions and observations, and am always happy to see my dogs return home clean, happy, and sleepy instead of anxious and stressed. 10/10!!

Paw Spa, LLC.
315 S Washington St, AlexandriaI had an excellent experience at Paw Spa. My 5 year old, female, bichon frise is a rescue and I got her about 7 months ago. Due to her anxiety, I’ve been having trouble grooming her on my own and she developed mats. She went to a groomer once, at Petsmart, just got for a bathe, and I don’t think it was the best experience for her. At Paw Spa, Gabrielle, the owner, was very patient with her and though I left her in a nervous state, when I arrived she looked relaxed and happy to see me. I am overly pleased with her shave down and I now have a new groomer. Please, go to Paw Spa. They are affordable, friendly, and black-owned. The business is small and cozy, which is perfect for anxious dogs (or other pets). I love them!!!!

For Pets' Sake
1537 N Quaker Ln, AlexandriaI was very satisfied. I was having a hard time finding affordable quality grooming for my recent rescue long-haired cat. I was impressed and reassured by the fact that For Pets’ Sake has a dedicated cat groomer specifically. Everyone in the shop was very kind and professional. Lee was so sweet with my cat. I got a standard cat grooming session which includes bath, brush, cut, nail trimming, and ear cleaning for $160. I asked them to skip the cut and just give her a sanitary cut in the back. She came home clean and refreshed and I was happy with the ear cleaning and nail trimming. Definitely recommend! Of course she is now grooming herself to put her own touches on it 😂

EmmaVet
1628A Belle View Blvd, AlexandriaBest Er in the DMV and let me tell you why.
Lived in Alexandria, moved to southern Maryland. Our old senior had a tumor that started leaking, a sign it had ruptured. We debated on going to a local er, but I had bad experiences, so I asked my husband to take me here, and God am I glad I did. I figured we might have to put her down, much like we put our last dog down, due to a internal stomach tumor. Thankfully our vet was super understand yet able to work out a plan that made sense. Now Roxy is back to her normal self, happy and living a great life once again! Thank you to the doctors, receptionists, vet techs and vet assistants at emmavet for all helping our dog.

Kingstowne Cat Clinic
5830 Kingstowne Towne Ctr #120, AlexandriaWe moved to the area last year and we were excited to see a highly rated cat clinic a few minutes away. I prefer a cat clinic because they specialize in treating felines and I don’t have to worry about walking into a stressful environment with large dogs barking and echoing throughout the waiting area.
I take my kitty for monthly shots for his arthritis and the staff is always caring, friendly, and attentive. They’re also very reasonably priced and I don’t have anxiety that they’ll try to upsell me on unneeded services.
Sometimes, I have to search a bit for a parking spot —but that’s the trade off being located near so many other popular businesses. I wish that they had a few reserved spots, close to their door, but not every property manager will allow for that.

Passionately Pets
1 E Bellefonte Ave, AlexandriaWe are very, very happy with the services that Team Passionately Pets provides for our pups (and occasional foster dog).
These guys are great.
We’ve used Jenna’s walking and pet sitting services for a bit more than 4 years now, and have had no issue with any walker or sitter. And on those rare occasions when we’ve had a last minute need for a walker, Jenna or a member team took care of our girls.
One of the things we like best about Passionately Pets is that Jenna strives to ensure the same walker consistently takes care of our girls; over the more than four years with them, we’ve had only four regular walkers, a rare exception in a field with notoriously high staff turnover.
We’re also very happy with the overnight services they provide, with pricing on par with local boarding services, without the stress of dropping the pups off to stay with dogs they don’t know.
Two paws up ? for them!!

Frolick Dogs
3208 Colvin St, AlexandriaI cannot express enough how much I recommend Frolick!!! I initially was just going to the open gym in the evenings to practice agility and basic commands with my Bernedoodle , where I had met initially Kevin and Kim (the owners). Kevin is SUCH a wealth of knowledge about dogs and had given me initial tips to build on what my girl already knew, but the more we talked, I knew the day board and train would be the best option. IN COMES JUSTIN!! He has the Kevin touch as well. Everything looks effortless. He also was beyond patient with me ( I think I was harder to train than my dog tbh, but you’ll have to ask him). Now, I swear my girl loves Justin more than me (they really should love their trainers that much!), she loves “going to school” (which is what we call Frolick)- to the point she starts Panting when we get close by on Duke street.
The perfect mix of corrections and positive reinforcement, training the things I needed the most and was having the hardest time being consistent with (place, heel, recalls) and dealing with reactivity! GOD SENDS. If I have a question or concern,I don’t feel dumb asking or coming to Frolick to ask or practice. EVERYONE has noticed how much more relaxed both my pup and myself are now- that’s confidence from Justin. Frolick is truly a family and I wish I would have found them even sooner. I will be eternally grateful!!

The Courteous Canine
4817 Godfrey Ave, AlexandriaI can’t say enough great things about our dog trainer Rayna Kinney! Before working together, walks were stressful and unpredictable due to my dog’s reactivity. Now, Junior confidently sits, stays, and lies down on command—even in public settings—and no longer reacts to distractions. Because of this training, I can take him places I never thought possible—and I can even trust him off leash. My grandchildren can also come over now without him jumping on them, which has made visits so much more enjoyable and stress-free. It’s truly opened up a whole new world for both of us. We’re no longer limited—we get to enjoy life together in a way we couldn’t before. If you’re struggling with your dog’s behavior, I highly recommend investing in a trainer like this. It has made an incredible difference for us!

Pet-Friendly Restaurants

Smyrna Restaurant
7588 Telegraph Rd, AlexandriaMy wife stopped into Smyrna while she was in the area for an event, and she came home absolutely raving about this place. Her dad always made Mediterranean food for her growing up, and according to her, Smyrna nailed it.
She said every bite was incredible. The flavors were fresh, authentic, and brought back a lot of great memories from her childhood. It’s not often she finds a restaurant that reminds her so much of the food she grew up with.
The service was just as amazing as the food. Arzo was friendly and welcoming, and went above and beyond to make her feel at home. She genuinely cared about both the restaurant and the people who walked through the door.
If you’re looking for authentic Aegean cuisine and a place that treats you like family, Smyrna is a gem. My wife is already planning her next visit, and now I need to go see what all the hype is about!

Yido Ramen and Sushi Alexandria
1612 B Belle View Blvd, AlexandriaFirst time dining here and I will definitely be back to try more items on the menu. I had the scallion pancake and shrimp tempura ramen with miso broth (no spice). The miso broth was SO GOOD. It had a nice smoky flavor that added depth and earthiness. The noodles were perfectly cooked and I liked how they were cut shorter than other Ramen shops which made them easier to manage onto my spoon with the chopsticks. They have jars of chili spice, chili oil, and salt on the table. I added chili oil and it was perfect amount of heat and earthiness. The shrimp tempura were perfectly cooked and brought out on a separate dish. I’d dip them into the broth and have a perfect bite. The scallion pancakes were on the thinner side but still very delicious. I dipped those into the broth as well…very good! The next time I go I want to try the chasu with miso broth and the bunny-shaped pudding for dessert.
