430 Hume Ave, AlexandriaAfter 2 years out of the country, the first call I made once we had a move-back date was From Head to Tail for my 10 yr old pup and new 10 month puppy! The older pup loved their microbubble baths when we lived here before and for 2 years I struggled to find a place that did good work and didn't stress her out. So happy to be back! The minute we opened our car door and she caught a familiar sniff she perked up and ran in. The 10 mo old pup is a wirehair mix and we are still figuring out her coat, the grooming staff understood and when we picked her up she was calm and happy, the perfect response from a pup still getting used to grooming. Can you find a cheaper dog bath or DIY? Sure. But after two years of alternatives, I truly love their approach to crates and handling dogs, trust their suggestions and observations, and am always happy to see my dogs return home clean, happy, and sleepy instead of anxious and stressed. 10/10!!

He gets the full service bath and I can’t believe how incredible his coat looks and smells great (not just drowned in dog perfume). And it lasts or weeks! His skin is so happy. We have only had wonderful interactions with the entire staff. He has a good experience every time and is always chipper when we pick him up. Yes it’s expensive but worth every penny for the quality and compassionate service!!

I was impressed and reassured by the fact that For Pets’ Sake has a dedicated cat groomer specifically. Everyone in the shop was very kind and professional. Lee was so sweet with my cat. I got a standard cat grooming session which includes bath, brush, cut, nail trimming, and ear cleaning for $160. I asked them to skip the cut and just give her a sanitary cut in the back. She came home clean and refreshed and I was happy with the ear cleaning and nail trimming. Definitely recommend! Of course she is now grooming herself to put her own touches on it 😂

6137 Franconia Road, AlexandriaHometown Veterinary Clinic provided exceptional care for my cat as she crossed the rainbow bridge. On Friday morning I took my 2 1/2 year old cat, Freya, to this vet and the employees there were immediately gentle and kind, taking their time with getting Freya's vitals since she was super lethargic. When her blood work came back with dire results, they were able to welcome me back a few hours later, this time with my boyfriend since he was off work by then, without an appointment so that we could say our goodbyes to her. Dr. Sarcon took care of Freya for both appointments and I couldn't have asked for anyone better, as she was so understanding with how devastated my boyfriend and I were over losing our cat at such a young age. The vet techs were also amazing, especially the one who was there when we put Freya to sleep. She explained that she was the one to trim a piece of fur as a keepsake and made sure to keep note of which section we wanted trimmed. Although we lost our beloved girl that day, I can't thank Hometown enough for their exceptional care.

6940 South Kings Highway Suite 208, AlexandriaWe’re new clients, but as a cat owner I am already blown away by Harmony Vet’s style. They have a system of operational and environmental adjustments that just make sense and I think would be welcome by fellow cat parents:
• They first have a televisit with you to get to know you and your pet, to know what to expect from your pet’s temperament for the visit, and to cut down on time spent on site in an exam room.
• They have separate entrances for dogs and cats. When you arrive, you call the office before entering to make sure you can easily enter. When you do enter, there is no waiting room time—you just go straight into the exam room.
• Cat exam rooms include space to climbing and toys.
• My kitty doesnt like vets, which I warned our vet about. My cat didn’t leave her carrier when I opened it, so Dr Allison just crouched right on the ground to get close to her rather than immediately having my kitty out of her safe spot.
• During the exam, my cat was distracted with treats and was more comfortable with a heating pad on the table.
• My kitty still isn’t a fan of vets, but she was distracted enough to not be miserable and our easy transition from car to exam room also made a difference, along with the pre-visit telehealth call.
I have been going to a cat-exclusive vet for years but have never before felt so catered to for my cat’s needs. 💜

The kennel manager Joey I believe is his name always assures that my pets are taking care of. Don’t let the comment below of him being rude discourage you from coming to this amazing establishment. I will be reporting the comment about Joey being rude, he is always helpful to me and I have seen him go as far to checking in my appointments and checking me out in the room since my animals are dog reactive. The front desk is also so helpful and doctors they’re just very lovely people. I always recommend Dr.Tobar since he is bilingual and my family mostly speaks Spanish very easy on us.

Dr. Miller & Dr. Owel were professional and kind via phone. They both carefully explained the diagnosis, processes, and treatment. I like that they emailed me the medical documents after the visit. This vet office is organized, responsive to customer care, and time-efficient. I would recommend this office to anyone seeking a caring and careful vet. These guys are great.
We’ve used Jenna’s walking and pet sitting services for a bit more than 4 years now, and have had no issue with any walker or sitter. And on those rare occasions when we’ve had a last minute need for a walker, Jenna or a member team took care of our girls.
One of the things we like best about Passionately Pets is that Jenna strives to ensure the same walker consistently takes care of our girls; over the more than four years with them, we’ve had only four regular walkers, a rare exception in a field with notoriously high staff turnover.
We’re also very happy with the overnight services they provide, with pricing on par with local boarding services, without the stress of dropping the pups off to stay with dogs they don’t know.

They were understanding of her nervousness, especially separation anxiety. When I called to check in on her, they responded with patience. They were supportive and honest on how she was doing.

I initially was just going to the open gym in the evenings to practice agility and basic commands with my Bernedoodle , where I had met initially Kevin and Kim (the owners). Kevin is SUCH a wealth of knowledge about dogs and had given me initial tips to build on what my girl already knew, but the more we talked, I knew the day board and train would be the best option. IN COMES JUSTIN!! He has the Kevin touch as well. Everything looks effortless. He also was beyond patient with me ( I think I was harder to train than my dog tbh, but you’ll have to ask him). Now, I swear my girl loves Justin more than me (they really should love their trainers that much!), she loves “going to school” (which is what we call Frolick)- to the point she starts Panting when we get close by on Duke street.
The perfect mix of corrections and positive reinforcement, training the things I needed the most and was having the hardest time being consistent with (place, heel, recalls) and dealing with reactivity! GOD SENDS. If I have a question or concern,I don’t feel dumb asking or coming to Frolick to ask or practice. EVERYONE has noticed how much more relaxed both my pup and myself are now- that’s confidence from Justin. Frolick is truly a family and I wish I would have found them even sooner. I will be eternally grateful!!

The Yido Chili Wontons, Salmon Sushi, Tokyo Ying Yang Ramen, Supreme Ramen, and Spicy Tuna Roll were all 4/5 — really good and I'd order them again. The Crabstick Tempura Roll was a 3/5, good but probably my least favorite.
Both ramens were ordered spicy and definitely hit! ?? Overall a really good experience, great service, cute atmosphere, and plenty of options. 5/5 will definitely come back!

Ordered the restore juice, strawberry matcha, and Avo toast + smoked salmon. Whatever additional sauce they use for the Avo, set it off, I devoured. My only neutral comment is the prices. For just me it was about $40. So, definitely a once in a blue moon kinda place for me, but I will be back.

5509 Vine St Ste A, AlexandriaMy wife and I sat on the patio and enjoyed our very first taste of Ethiopian honey wine. She had semi-sweet and I had semi-dry (we tasted some of each other’s). and neither of us were disappointed. We loved the wine and the Ethiopian sambusas (similar to samosas) we ordered as well. The service was also top-notch, as our server Tsion was very nice. We will definitely return and may buy a bottle of wine to take home!

111 S Payne St, Alexandriatiny carryout-only place with the best gelato in town. unique flavors and high-quality rich and creamy gelato. my favorite is the port wine + walnut flavor, and the sweet corn is my close second favorite. but every flavor I’ve had has been very good. i haven’t tried the sorbets yet, but i bet they are delicious as well.

Animal Welfare League of Alexandria
4101 Eisenhower Ave, AlexandriaMy friend and I brought a cat that had been abandoned, distressed, and not claimed by anyone in the neighborhood. We had such a pleasant experience with the staff and knew she would be in good care to find her forever home. When we have found other abandoned animals, we have not had the same experience in other jurisdiction with shelters so it’s great to see that the city is committed to taking care of abandoned animals.
