Olde Towne School For Dogs
529 Oronoco St, AlexandriaA big thank you to Leighann who trained our 8 month mixed rescue, Remy, over a three week day program. We had been through another local dog training class with minimal improvement. Leighann was knowledgeable, patient and light-hearted as she guided both Remy (and us humans) in proper leash walking, sit, down, stay and come commands. Remy's behavior has improved dramatically with her skilled instruction. From the first week, we saw how excited Remy was to see Leighann each day which is a testament to her love of dogs and her style of training. We know how to advocate for Remy and while he is still growing and learning; he is a confident, well-mannered, happy pup. One that our friends and family enjoyed being with over the holidays.

The Dog Store
2301 Mt Vernon Ave, AlexandriaSo my Aspengirl and I have a regular habit of walking down here Friday afternoons and getting her a treat. While their treat assortment is always amazing - and staff are always so loving to my 50/50 girl (half the time she's nice to other dogs in the store, half the time she's not havin' it) - our favorite experience is how they helped fit her recently for a new sweater. Between how kind they were to her as they measured her, showed me how to get her into and out of her sweater, and kept me posted on when the right size would be coming in, it was an all around fantastic experience. And my little girl looks beautiful in her new sweater - and she loves putting it on now! (She hates every other sweater I've gotten her)

It was so helpful and I really appreciated the kindness. It is a great store with great staff!

Unleashed by Petco
283 S Van Dorn St, AlexandriaThey're a smaller version of petco, so the selection isn't as great, still impressive given the size. They stock taste of the wild pacific stream - puppy (and the regular), which is the only dry food I can find that is specifically for puppies and doesn't contain chicken (my puppy is allergic). It's the only place around I know that stocks it. They didn't used to. They were touting a dog food program when I casually mentioned my puppy's needs as I declined and a few weeks later it was mysteriously stocked. I don't know if the events are connected, I do know it's convenient to have a physical place to buy chicken-free healthy puppy food without too many additives. Especially now that my puppy is larger and eats so much. They also carry frozen dog meals that don't contain chicken, which is surprisingly difficult to find. Their canned selection is more limited than I'd like; my puppy won't eat the same protein two days in a row and won't eat pate. However, they stock her two favorite Merrick flavors so I can get through the week if I can't get to a bigger shop for a few cans of Arcana or something. There's always a good selection on the clearance rack. The self wash always looks clean and in good repair, though I've never used it. The employees are always helpful and knowledgeable. Management must be doing a great job.

Pawsh Dog Wash
4907 Brenman Park Dr, AlexandriaWe love Pawsh! I live on Capitol Hill but drive to Alexandria frequently because Pawsh is so much better than the options in DC. I used to almost exclusively use the self-wash option, which is really well done. There's plenty of space so the dogs don't feel too crowded, the tubs are high enough that it won't hurt your back, and they truly have all the supplies you could possibly need (including Furminators). Since an injury, my pup Arlo -- a giant, hairy, exuberant golden retriever -- has been treated to Pawsh Packages (a bath/blowout/nail trim service). Mary, the owner, has been incredible about making sure Arlo gets a super thorough de-shed, and he's always so happy when I pick him up. On top of all that, everything is fairly priced. Can't recommend this (locally owned!) business enough.

Your Dog's Best Friends
2000 Richmond Hwy, AlexandriaI recently had the pleasure of entrusting Peanut and Snoopy, my beloved furry companions, to Britney for grooming, and I must say, it was an outstanding experience from start to finish.Britney's expertise was evident throughout the grooming process. She took the time to understand my preferences for Peanut and Snoopy's grooming, ensuring that every detail was attended to. Her attention to detail was truly remarkable, from the careful trimming of their paw pads to the gentle cleaning of their ears and nails. What truly sets Britney apart is her compassion for animals. It was evident that she genuinely loves what she does and cares deeply for the well-being of every furry client she encounters.Overall, my experience with Britney was nothing short of exceptional. Peanut and Snoopy came out looking and feeling fabulous, and I couldn't be happier with the results. Pet Care
VCA Beacon Hill Cat Hospital
6610 Richmond Hwy, AlexandriaFor the past 20+ years, we've only brought our cats to VCA Beacon Hill for all of their needs. Everyone here has been exceptional, from the doctors to the technicians, and even the front desk staff. We're truly thankful to have had a place we felt confident in that our animals were getting the best care they could throughout their lives. Unfortunately, just this past month we lost our third and final cat in the household. She had some serious health difficulties in the past couple years, but I don't think we would have gotten to spend more quality years with her without the support and expertise from the people at this facility. Though we're cat-less for the foreseeable future, this is the only place I will bring any of my future furry family members.

Core Canine
3301 Mt Vernon Ave ste 100, AlexandriaExceptional trainer, setting is perfect to socialize and train puppies and dogs. My pup Gigi went through all the puppy Happy Hours when she was 4 months old AND completed puppy kindergarten, puppy middle school and puppy high school. April has the highest integrity, caring and real world experience. We even completed a graduation ceremony for each program and I couldn't be happier!! Gigi is complimented everywhere we go on how well behaved she is while her personality still really shines through. April is a true professional and works with each dog's personality unique to them. She uses only positive reinforcement and my Gigi adores her as do I. April purposefully keeps the classes small and everyone gets attention and caring, dogs and humans alike. She is very patient and kind. We feel very blessed to have found her when I did to help Gigi, who is a Beagle husky- very vocal and very playful. I know Gigi misses April very much and hope to surprise April one of these days with all Gigi has retained and learned since. Being given foundational support and psychology of dogs, helps in building further positive reinforcements independently of the classes. Because of April, I have everything I need to have a very happy life with my beautiful Gigi. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, April! You are a wonderful human. We appreciate you.

Sally's Way Dog Services
5850 Cameron Run Terrace Apt. 225, AlexandriaI cannot praise Sally's Way Dog Training Services highly enough. You only allow a rating of up to five stars. If I could, I would give Sally's Way Dog Training Services one hundred stars on your scale of one to five stars, and I sincerely mean that.Joel Diaz and his wife, Luisa, own Sally's Way Dog Training Services. Joel, Luisa and Sally's Way Dog Training Services have done an outstanding, a truly superb job, of training our dog. Moreover, dog training is only one of many services that Sally's Way Dog Training Services provide, and my wife and I have availed ourselves of all of these services. Joel Diaz and Sally's Way provided our dog with basic training in a host of areas, as well as training her on an E-Collar. In fact, Joel advised me on the most effective E-Collar to purchase, and I am glad that I followed his advice, because we have been extremely happy with the E-Collar that we purchased. When I first observed our dog after completing its E-Collar service, I was beyond amazed. She had learned to seat, heal, and obey all manner of commands. Joel had worked with her one-on-one to obey a wide variety of obedience commands and accomplish all manner of tasks. Subsequently, he worked extensively with both me and our dog, showing me how to use the E-Collar to teach our dog to sit, heal, answer recall commands, cease unwanted behaviors and perform all manner of other tasks. Following Joel's guidance, using this E-Collar, I have been able to take our dog off leash when and where permitted,to run play, romp and have all kinds of fun. This training and the E-Collar have enabled the dog and me to bond even more closely, as well as enjoying each other's company even more. Joel, Luisa and Sally's Way Dog Training Services does not merely provide dog obedience training. On the contrary, Joel, Luisa and their company also board dogs and hold "pack walks" three or more times a week, provide us advice on what to do when our dog has health- or digestive related issues, how to interpret her behavior, how to bond ever more closely with her, and how to make her feel like an integral part of our family. Joel advised us on what dog food to buy for her, how often to feed her and how often. He advised us on what crate to buy her and how to best use the crate in insuring her happiness and contentment, give her a "safe space," and a good night's rest every night. Early on, after obtaining our dog, I busted up my leg pretty badly and was unable to care for our dog for some weeks. Joel and Luisa boarded her, fed her, and she lived side-by-side with them, their two wonderful dogs and their small child. She had so much fun living with them, I was almost afraid that she would not want to return to living with us. However, this experience helped socialize her and make her feel more comfortable when she is in the company of adults, babies and small children, and dogs. Generally speaking, she loves people, dogs and children, absolutely doting on babies and tots. Thankfully, when she returned to us upon my recuperation, she was thrilled to be back home, although she looks forward to seeing Joel, Luisa, their dogs and small child. That is an understatement, to say the least. She loves her pack walks and loves spending time with Joel's family. To really understand how much I value Joel and Sally's Way Dog Training Service, I need to recount our trials and tribulations when our new dog, a rescue dog, arrived on our door step. She was a scared, nervous dog. She had been removed from s rescue center in Moline, Kansas, and transported by van with numerous other dogs to Alexandria, Va. This was a traumatic experience for her. The first night we had her, she seemed also like a combat veteran suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). She was panting, nervous, pacing around, jumping up on us and sending us all manner of signals that we did not understand or know how to interpret. She defecated twice and urinated once within the first couple of hours that we had her. Ho

As part of this program, they go above and beyond, conducting hour long 1:1 private sessions with your dog present, showing you exactly what they're working on, and providing hands-on guidance for seamless implementation at home. This program even accommodated our dog's significant dietary restrictions, which were challenging for us for a long time. The attention to detail and personalized care make their Day Academy program exceptionally well thought out and their personalized approach ensures knowledge transfer to us as dog parents, which I really appreciate. What really sets Wholistic Hound Academy apart though is the people.
