Definitely a good place if youre more worried about quality or experience than price, or if you are willing to go to multiple stores for what is cheapest at each place. I have heard excellent things about the pharmacy as well! I would rate 2 stars for price, 3 stars for price taking bogos into account- but for the deli subs, the friendly service, and the fact it doesn't have that anxiety inducing grocery store vibe, I would be remiss to deduct a single star. Just know it's an expensive good time (which is probably not what most want in a grocery shopping experience).”

“I have been shopping at Earthfare for years now, and since they closed and reopened awhile back …things just haven’t been the same. The service was mediocre at best, most of the employees weren’t very sociable or helpful, and a lot of times we had to bag our own groceries. I don’t like to leave negative feedback, so I never did. BUT…. I would have to say things have definitely improved over the last few months. This past Sunday our experience was exceptional, and the store was quite full. The food at the hot bar was very tasty and staff at checkout excellent. Shoutout to Linda & Donna who were super friendly and provided the best service I have had to date at any grocery store. Staff at the cold counter and the ladies in the meat and cheese department are great too, but I didn’t catch their names. Keep up the good work - we all appreciate a pleasant experience. 😉”

“My wife and I have this running joke that we can never get to the front of a Publix line because the waits are all atrociously wrong. This is the only Publix in town that we’ve been able to wait the entirety of the line because it runs at a normal pace. The staff serving you here are also the friendliest in town. If you live in Athens and shop at Publix, it’s worth it to come to the East Side. You’ll probably be waiting at the other ones anyway, so it’ll be worth the extra drive.”

I also had to get some potatoes for mashed potatoes because the ones I have at home are full of eyes and I don't want to eat that.I like Kroger, in fact, I prefer it over the other store. But it is much farther away. By other store it's just about walking distance.A Kroger fuel points are a great benefit, but I never get enough points to make it worth my while. I put my sister's number in because she does collect the points and she really knows how to work it. She gets all kinds of extra points for shopping on Friday, doing a surveys on the receipt, and her neat trick is buying a gift card and using it to buy the groceries. “I’ve chose Walmart Marketplace for all my prescription needs because it’s the absolute best pharmacy I’ve come across in Athens. The personal assistance I get from this location is absolutely superb. I recently received a statin medicine from my doctor that had me very frightened out of my mind. The pharmacist, Laura, took a great deal of time to help me understand the drug and how it works in the body. I had many concerns about statins (as do others that I know). I learned, in great detail, how statins work in the body, and many things I thought in my uneducated mind were completely wrong. Laura cared enough to teach me on my level, and my fears were alleviated by her kind and informative approach. I can tell, Laura really cares about me. Time after time, I scare myself over different medications, snd shots or vaccinations I have to get, but Laura never fails to take the time to help me get over my fears. Anyone can see the love in her sweet eyes for her profession and the folks she serves, and I am blessed to be fortunate enough to have Laura’s unsurpassed council on the medications I don’t understand - explained on a level I can comprehend. “Curbside pickup here has been excellent here during COVID19. It's a small store, so occasionally there are a few items unavailable, but overall, it's great. If there's something I really need, I'll order from the Hull Road location. Epps Bridge, which was my most-frequented store before COVID is AWFUL and so frequently out of items. The one on the eastside is hit or miss: sometimes pretty good and sometimes a little slack. But the Alps store has become consistently reliable.”

Walmart wants your groceries at the door before the ice cream softens. On May 29, the retailer said its 30-minute-or-less delivery had reached 33 U.S. markets, adding a wave of new cities across the Northeast. Shoppers in those areas can order from more than 100,000 items, everything from fresh produce and baby formula to pet food, electronics, cold medicine, and prescriptions. Behind the scenes, the service leans on Walmart's store network and an algorithm that factors in order size, available drivers, and distance from the store.
Trader Joe's keeps adding stores, and shoppers keep showing up. The California grocer has marked nine more locations as "opening soon," pushing its expansion into new corners of the country. The grocer also took first place in the American Customer Satisfaction Index's 2026 supermarket rankings. It has held a spot near the top of that list for years.
Target is rolling out its most ambitious store overhaul in more than ten years, with plans to remodel over 130 locations and open 30 new stores across the country this year. The retailer is also putting money into supply chain technology upgrades to keep pace with how shoppers buy today.
Kroger is spending $112 million to build two new stores and renovate 15 existing locations across central and northwest Ohio. The company calls it a "record-breaking" commitment to the region. The two new Kroger Marketplace stores will rise in Canal Winchester and Delaware, Ohio, each costing roughly $30 million to build. Kroger broke ground on the Canal Winchester location on March 19 at the southeast corner of Diley Road and Greengate Boulevard. The 118,000-square-foot store is expected to open in late fall 2026 and will create around 250 jobs.
Loblaw Companies Limited is putting serious money into its retail network this year. Canada's largest food and pharmacy retailer announced it will spend $2.4 billion in 2026 to open new stores, renovate existing locations and strengthen its supply chain. The company plans to open 70 new stores in 2026. That includes 34 Shoppers Drug Mart and Pharmaprix pharmacies and care clinics, along with 31 hard-discount No Frills and Maxi grocery stores. On top of the new openings, Loblaw will renovate another 191 stores and continue construction on a roughly 1.2 million-square-foot automated distribution center in Caledon, Ontario.
