Keauhou Veterinary Hospital
78-6728 Walua Rd, Kailua-KonaI have been here 2 times so far. Once in Dec for my dog's new patient/annual check up/vax appointment and once in Feb due to an eye issue my dog was having. Both times I was very impressed and happy with their service & care!I know they might "busy" but I never felt that when I was there. The have owners/pets call in from lanai upon arrival. Each time I have only ever seen one other pet. After being taken in, you wait in a private room. The way they have themselves set up it makes it seem like you are the only owner/pet there. I found it to be a surprisingly peaceful vet experience. The front desk are friendly and helpful with scheduling. The estimates I have requested can sometimes take a few days to get. Each time I requested to have an estimate of charges ahead of time they did send it. This is helpful to know the approximate cost prior to the appointment. So that was good. For the recent eye issue appointment, I was able to text the office in the morning and got a response right away! I was so thankful for this. I think I was lucky, but I was able to get a same day appointment and it relieved a lot of stress for me to have my dog seen right away. The vet techs that did the intake upon arrival were thorough in questioning and listened to what I had to share about my dog. After the intake, they do take your pet to the back without you for the exam/vaccination/diagnostics - which is different than my previous vet. (Previous vet I was able to be in room during exam/vax with Vet & techs and I liked that). At first I was uneasy with not being able to be in the room but I am okay with it. I imagine it allows them to do their job uninterrupted which is important. I have never seen or gone back to where they do the exams so I cannot comment on the exam rooms nor their handing of my pet during the exams. But I did really like Dr. Head's consults with me afterward! After both visits, Dr. Head met with me for about 10-15 minutes to discuss what he observed, what they did with my dog and treatment plan. He was calm, informative and unrushed. I really appreciate the time he took both times to speak with me and explain things so I understood. The most recent time he was there, he walked my dog back with him and the dog came in with the biggest smile and tail wagging! Dr. Head was giving him puppy love and I was so happy to see it!The day after the eye issue appointment, I received a follow up email checking on my dog. Again, I really appreciate that thoroughness and commitment to care the Keauhou Veterinary team shows.I did get a copy of my dog's vaccinations after my Dec appointment but I had requested a "After Care Summary" or a copy of my dog's medical records a few times but have yet to receive it.Overall, I am really happy with the vet grounds, the staff and Dr. Head! Keauhou Veterinary Hospital is well operated and you can tell each team member cares. I am thankful to have them as my vet!

Kona Veterinary Service
73-4730 Old Mamalahoa Hwy, Kailua-KonaDr. Milnes took excellent care of my senior Pomeranian. She was patient, kind and very knowledgeable through all of my dog’s ailments over the past year. She was always very honest and laid out all options available for us. I cannot thank her enough for making my Sophie’s last year as comfortable as we could make it considering her age.

Big Island Abalone
73-357 Makako Bay Dr, Kailua-KonaWhat an awesome tour we took. You get to see every part of the development stages of these abalone. They also have other projects that are going on as well so you get to see their seaweed and learn about the type that they grow. The tour is complete with a taste of some sea grapes and abalone prepared 2 different ways (I love them over the grill wrapped in foil). We opted for the BBQ addition. 100% will do it again. Touring with 6 children, the outdoors were a perfect place to let them play while the BBQ is going. The menu was superb. We were greeted by Minoʻaka, who gave us the low down of the locally sourced course (surf & turf) and prepared our tent and BBQ grill. By the time we finished the tour, the propane BBQ was heated and ready to go saving us wait time. 100% recommend the tour as the guide is very knowledgeable about the farm, missed her name as were late to join the tour. 100% recommend paying extra for the BBQ (you donʻt have to eat the abalone if you donʻt like it but the steak and lobster is pretty tasty).

BerryBird Coffee
787154 Kaleiopapa St, Kailua-KonaThis is the coffee shop you’ve been looking for. Exceptionally fresh, delicious, and a warm welcoming couple who are clearly very serious and passionate about coffee.Without question one of the best cups of coffee I have ever had. We feel so lucky to have met Matt and Lisa at BerryBird Coffee at the Ali’i Marketplace on Tuesday and we loved the coffee and our new friends so much we came back with the whole family on Thursday! My first visit we had the pour over grown in Hawaii, which was phenomenally smooth and rich. It left me thinking about it for the next two days.On our second trip we had pour overs of both their medium roast and a Columbian bean Matt was kind enough to share from his own personal supply! The family really enjoyed the espresso and vanilla bean latte, with the vanilla beans grown locally as well. Lisa made us a very refreshing cooler with some tea made from coffee pulp and a citrus jelly which was perfect on a warm day. We’ll definitely be back whenever we’re on Big Island! Thank you Matt and Lisa!

Gecko Girlz Shave Ice and Ice Cream Shop
Coconut Grove Marketplace, 75-5809 Ali‘i Dr, Kailua-KonaWe tried Lava Flow and Cherry Blossom shave ice creations, and each was huge and very delicious. Ice had a nice fluffy texture, and the cream snow caps were good. Lava flow was a bit citrusy, I liked the cherry blossom more as it was sweet and more mellow, plus the mochi and mac nut ice cream were amazing. Three of us shared the two shave ice creations, but one would have been enough since it was so big and worth the cost.
