O'z Kitchen
79-7552 Mamalahoa Hwy, KealakekuaWOW! This is some of the best local food on the island. We took the tour to the top of the mountain then went over to O’z Kitchen. Ordered every item over two days and had an absolute blast. The quality and quantity is just right for the price, the staff are like family, and the atmosphere is amazing. It is outside and does sell out quick so make sure to get there before 1PM.

Gypsea Gelato
79-7491 Hawaiʻi Belt Rd, KealakekuaSooooo yummy! And such a fun place for the kiddos too. They have some games and areas for kids to play. Gelato is amazing. We had a big group, so we were able to try many flavors. I don’t know how to choose a favorite since they were all very good—toasted coconut is definitely high on the list and a must try.

Parrots in Paradise
81-6442 Punana Road, KealakekuaI stumbled upon this gem on Google Maps when exploring things to do in Kona. Parrots always intrigued me and I thought a tour in a parrot sanctuary will be a nice change of pace from the typical Hawaii activities. I wasn't entirely sure what to expect but this tour was one of the best experiences my wife and I had in Hawaii! This parrot sanctuary held over 100 parrots of many different species, from small cute ones like the Lovebirds to huge ones like the Hyacinth Macaw (a very rare and beautiful blue parrot). Jerry was our tour guide and he showed us around all the parrots. He shared unique facts about parrots, and also each parrot's unique history and personalities. There were also hands on experiences with the parrots: I've had parrots climb on my shoulders, and even flying onto my arm to get a treat.Parrots can live very complex lives due to many factors, and there are more to them than what's shown on TV & movies. Thank you Jerry and your family for starting this sanctuary and taking care of these amazing birds. I hope to come back to visit again one day!
