I've never seen a vet sit on the floor with a dog to enjoy some doggie love and kisses. Really heartwarming. Always a pleasant experience all around.

The Fish And The Hog
64-957 Hawaiʻi Belt Rd, WaimeaThe Fish and the Hog, was the best discovery of our recent trip to the Big Island. How did we miss this? Referred here by the activity director at our Time Share, thank you so very much. Parking is plentiful, though most of the lot is unpaved. They do not take reservations, so be prepared for a wait outside on the porch. The hostess, (Timara?) was the best at dealing with the waiting crowd. Calm, with excellent communication skills, aloha started with her.\nThe interior is a bright ranch theme (no doubt a tribute to the nearby Parker Ranch). The menu selection is extensive in a good way, something for all preferences. After many fish dishes, it was BBQ time for sure. We have sampled some great BBQ in our travels; Tennessee-Alabama-Texas-and Cali. This was right up there. My friend did start with the recommended Onion Soup. A good-sized portion, with lots of Maui onions. It appeared to be topped with melted provolone, vs. baked Gruyere. A satisfying version nonetheless. \nI had the Pulled Pork Sandwich with sweet potato fries, coleslaw, and added a side of beans. Traditional presentation on a metal tray, fries came with a tangy ranch dill dipping sauce. The coleslaw had a hint of this as well. Good portions, everything tasted superb. But the BBQ Beans stole the show. If you order them as a separate side, it is a larger portion. A blend of northern white, and kidney beans, onions, and red bell pepper, with a sprinkle of pork bits, OMG! You can add some heat to this if you want, but they are a great complement to any BBQ dish. My friend had the pork plate, with a smaller side of the beans, and agreed. Completely cleaned our plates. \nBut it gets better. They feature three different special BBQ sauces. “Paniolo,” “Crackseed,” and the winning “Lilikoi Gold.” I tried a dab of all three. All had a unique Hawaiian twist, but the Lilikoi had the best flavor. And yes, You can buy it\n to take home. Our server, Mailani, was very attentive, given the packed house. I ordered the Banana Cream Pie for Dessert, and noted the diminishing pie in the glass case. I asked her to save me a piece, and I observed her put a big slice on a plate for me, thank you! From the first bite, their version was so good. A drizzle of chocolate, and caramel, decorate this masterpiece. It could be a sharable, but I craved this one to the last bite. We will definitely be back next trip, be it lunch, or dinner, or both! \nMahlo

Red Barn
67-139 Pukalani Rd, WaimeaI've been coming to the farmers market for a few months now and my first stop is always to put an order in at the Red Barn food truck. They have gluten free bread and the way they grill their grilled cheese sandwiches is next level. Even if the menu option doesn't come with tomato soup, I have it added on. There's nothin like dipping a cheesy sando into that soup and finishing it off with a tangy bite of a pickle and some kettle chips. Brings me back to childhood. The staff is always smiling and happy. And the location might as well be a slice of heaven.

Pele Plantations: 100% Organic Kona Coffee
65-1158 Mamalahoa Hwy #20, WaimeaRecently I purchased another brand of coffee beans to support a great mission and see if my Kona addiction was real. Although I enjoyed the other coffee, I didn’t realize how much of a Kona fan I was until I brewed the first pot of Pele Plantation coffee after drinking the other coffee for a few weeks. What a difference.Everyone who drinks coffee at my house loves it but most are not willing to make the investment in perfect beans. They wonder why my coffee is so good. It all starts with the Pele Plantation beans. They are never bitter and are always smooth.

Dom De Luca's Restaurant
65-1158 Mamalahoa Hwy #11, WaimeaFine dining at its best here in Waimea, Big Island. Enjoyed a wonderful dinner here with my son and his family. Started off with their house salad with strawberry vinaigrette dressing. Our entrees were pasta dishes of Fresco Verde with Ahi, Carbonara, and Bolognese for the adults; and Meat Lovers pizza and Keiki pepperoni pizza for the kids. Everything was delicious, flavorful, and generous. Overall service was excellent and the atmosphere very cozy. If you reside in Waimea, visiting, or just passing through, I highly recommend this hole in the wall place if you love Italian cuisine.
