“I’m only leaving this review because I was looking at opening an account here. I’m reading other peoples reviews. People whining about getting their vehicle loan statement late or not getting stuff in the mail on time. Do you know when your payment is due when you sign the loan papers! Take some self responsibility. It’s funny you blame the financial institution, but don’t take responsibility for yourselves. The only issue I see with this credit union is the fact that they have allowed imbeciles to open up accounts who are not smart enough to manage their own finances. I will definitely be checking this place out.”
“Best bank in Ames. I have had an account and dealt with First National since probably 1978 or 1979. I've also dealt with, not going to mention names, a couple of the much larger banks in Ames that was a real nightmare. First National has been and seem to continue to be a much more personable,friendly, and caring bank. I have not had any problems I've experienced at many of the larger banks. For an example: I had a truck loan at one of the "big name brand" banks. I paid my loan off about one year early, it took me eight months to finally get my title after many many phone calls and other unnecessary BS. What a pain in the butt. I'll never use another " name brand" big bank.”

There were two tellers there that helped us count our change, and even though they don't have a coin-counting machine there, the process was fast, efficient and fun. The tellers were both very nice, it only took about 10 minutes (for $77 worth of change) and we had a great conversation! I would definitely recommending coming here to exchange your change for cash and for great service.”

I have banked at Bank of the West in Ames since it opened it's doors. They provide great service, timely and accurate accounting and always take time to graciously assist me with my every need. I especially like their online banking as its simple, easy and accessible.
The entire staff is wonderful at helping me in person and on the phone. I truly appreciate this!
I was also a banker at BMO with family members in Wisconsin so I was thrilled when they merged and came to Ames.
