“Very nice to stay in. Clean, attentive to rooms and the breakfasts are so good. They have coffee and hot tea at almost all times and snacks which were appreciated when we arrived. Definitely recommend”

“Wife and I stayed for a few days with some friends, super friendly staff, even let us use their business room for board games. We were told the price was 290, ended up paying 250 with early check in. They were extremely accommodating to our baby and loved seeing the happy staff whenever we strolled by. Will absolutely be going back here for extended stays again.”

“We (with 2 kids) stayed on a Thur. night. No bed bugs. The hotel seems newish and was nicely appointed. Parking was odd - the lot in the front is small and was full so we had to park around the side/back. This made it difficult to check in because we had to walk around the the front with bags. The staff was nice and did respond to requests right away. The room (2 queens) had a barn door for the bathroom. Sink, toilet and shower are within the bathroom...can't multitask sink usage and shower between people. Shower was hot and had decent flow. There was a desk with sliding panels that did a little bit to block light from the seating area and the bed area. Breakfast was what you expect. Everything was clean and hot. This is close to ISU and the downtown area with lots of restaurants.”

“Stayed here at Ames last night, 05/31. I loved everything. My Dad and I had great sleep last night and five stars for Desk Clerk, Micki, she made sure no noise or anything leading to roughhousing would happen on her watch. Thanks Micki! I will stay here again hopefully in the future.”

“Very nice hotel, loved the outdoor seating. It was also convenient that there was a gas station and restaurant right next to the hotel. The breakfast was very nice, loved the strawberry water. Only complaint was the bed was not comfortable. Staff was very nice, overall great stay.”

“The Hampton Inn in Ames, Iowa is a reliable and comfortable choice for both business travelers and visitors to Iowa State University. Located just off the main corridor into town, it’s easy to access from the highway yet still close enough to downtown Ames, campus, and local restaurants to make it convenient for a variety of stays. The exterior is clean and modern, and the lobby has that polished, corporate‑hotel feel without coming across as cold or impersonal.

Inside, the rooms are well‑maintained, with comfortable beds, a clean bathroom, and standard Hampton amenities like a mini‑fridge, microwave, and coffee maker—perfect for quick breakfasts or late‑night snacks. The hotel offers a decent complimentary breakfast, a fitness center, and free Wi‑Fi, which makes it practical whether you’re here for work, a football game, or visiting family. The staff are generally friendly and efficient, helping check‑in go smoothly and being responsive when small issues come up. Overall, the Hampton Inn in Ames is a solid, no‑surprise option that balances comfort, convenience, and value for a short or mid‑length stay.”

“Ames, IA is a very rural and quiet community & if your from some otherworldly, aggressive and fast paced large metro areas, you may find Ames a place to lower your blood pressure.
The light show I witnessed last night - 05 June 2026 - was phenomenal as this area of the country had nowhere near the light pollution we have in the DFW area. Traffic is slow here, there is no tailgating and very little speeding. The red lights are longer than we have in DFW which is a brilliant way to reset your mind. You can breathe in Ames, Iowa, something I miss from my rural living almost 50 years ago.
The hotel is very quiet. So quiet, I thought I had the entire second floor to myself. I actually thought about getting the band back together so we could roller skate and skateboard down the vacant hall.
I had to extend my stay for several days and they quickly and happily adjusted my accommodations to a two queen suite. Brilliant!
There is plenty of available parking, at least as of this writing. That said, it would appear that the large parking area BEHIND the hotel seems to be a meeting place for angsty young men who don't appear to be residents of the hotel.
I brought this to the attention of the managers on duty today, one took immediate action; the night shift manager, however, seemed to take offense of my complaint & informed me that quiet hours don't start until 10 PM. When I asked if they knew they were residents of the hotel, they said they would have to check.
I informed them that my vehicle is parked in the back parking area where the frat party was taking place and also informed them that I'm being proactive.
When I went to my truck about 30 minutes later, the young men were no longer there.
I won't bother this particular manager again in order to avoid their passive-aggressiveness; I'll call the Ames PD instead.

“Good cost-benefit ratio in terms of prices and not to mention that it is located near the University of Iowa, famous for its meat innovation and processing courses. It is not luxurious but it is functional, not to mention that there is transportation to the university”

“This is a pleasant hotel with good rooms. Walls are thin and music/TV and conversations can be heard. The only complaint is the unreliable bar/restaurant. Checking in on Friday we were told that the server was in a car accident and they could not cover the bar/restaurant so it was closed. On Saturday it was open for Breakfast and for the evening service. On Sunday am, it was again closed, with he same reason of the server being in a car accident. It was frustrating that you could not even get a coffee or muffin from the kitchen on a Sunday morning despite being able to on Saturday. It would be great if they had additional resources or could cross train someone so that one of the advertised amenities could be available. I understand staffing issues, but the inconsistencies were frustrating, especially when a hotel is chosen based on the advertised amenities.”

The venue's flexibility with last-minute adjustments and their ability to accommodate special requests truly set them apart. “Stayed the night nearing the end of a 3,100 mile (total) road trip. Check-in and check out was with the same woman. Both times she was very personable and helpful. Room was clean, ready for stay, and quiet. Hot tub was a good addition, clean, and working properly. Breakfast was so-so with limited options but caught it near the end also. Will definitely be staying here again when in town for Cyclones games.”

“We were in town for a craft show being held there at the hotel. When we first checked in, we went to our room, and we could hear water running. We called thr desk clerk, she came up to our room and checked on the water and gave us a different room for the night. We were thankful for that.”
