We came across Spoonbill Watering Hole with zero prior expectations, and it turned out to be such a spontaneous find! The outdoor patio seating was lively, but we chose to sit indoors to escape the humidity.
When the food arrived, our very first impression was a bit mixed because the portion sizes looked smaller than what we typically expect for the price point. However, that completely changed the moment we took our first bite. The XO Pasta was exceptionally delicious and unlike any standard American or Louisiana-style pasta we've had before, the XO butter sauce, and Sichuan pepper gave it such a unique, distinct flavor profile. The Tuna Tostada was equally impressive, fresh, and uniquely crafted with poke tuna and avocado crema. While you won't walk away with a massive box of leftovers, the quality, depth of flavor, and fresh ingredients made it completely worth it.
On top of the food, our server was exceptional! She went out of her way to speak with the chef to accommodate our ingredient preferences, ensuring everything was customized just the way we wanted. Great atmosphere, fantastic hospitality, and memorable food. We will definitely be back next time we’re in Downtown Lafayette!
