“At 9am, we headed to the entrance of the Museum of Trade Finance and The Fed. It is actually located in the office of the Fed here, which explains the security checks required for you to enter into the building. The museum itself is free but so you know, it is also actually quite small. It is just a small space in the lift lobby of the building where the employees will move in and out of the building. Also, photography is not allowed here.
BUT, it does have some informative exhibits as well as videos to tell you the history of the Fed and economy of the USA. You can even grab a couple of those 3D glasses to see hidden message scattered across the exhibits. Nice little addition for the kids.
There were several things that we learnt about the Fed. Their main tasks are actually to ensure maximum employment and price stability in the market. But that is not easily done and requires both monetary policy done by the Fed and the fiscal policy done by the Treasury – that is, to manage government borrowing and spending as well as financial regulation. This is actually similar to what Singapore does with MAS doing what the Fed does and the Ministry of Finance, doing what the Treasury does...
