“I booked the Salamander in Washington, D.C. It was a gift for my mom because we both needed a getaway and some quality girl time. I can openly say it exceeded every expectation. This was my first time booking here, and I was immediately impressed by how beautiful the property is and how genuinely exceptional the staff are. From start to finish, everyone went above and beyond—kind, courteous, knowledgeable, and truly invested in creating a great experience.

Check-in was fast and seamless. The staff provided a thorough overview of the hotel’s amenities and also shared insight into the on-site Michelin-recognized restaurant, Dōgon. Located within the Salamander, Dōgon is a chef-driven Afro-Caribbean restaurant by Kwame Onwuachi that opened in September 2024 and is now featured in the MICHELIN Guide for Washington, D.C. It was also ranked #37 on North America’s 50 Best Restaurants 2025. The food and overall experience absolutely live up to the acclaim.

I booked our stay through Amex Travel, which came with fantastic perks: early check-in at 12pm, late checkout at 4pm, a $100 breakfast credit per day, and a $100 experience credit usable anywhere on the property.

We chose the lounge for breakfast both mornings, and it was phenomenal. The service was excellent, the food delicious, and the weekend breakfast buffet was—without exaggeration—the best I’ve ever had. The buffet is offered Saturdays and Sundays only; otherwise, breakfast is à la carte and can add up quickly. We also ordered room service, which was pleasantly fast compared to other luxury hotels I’ve stayed at. Just note there is a $6 delivery fee and an automatic 19% gratuity, so keep that in mind if adding an additional tip.

We stayed in Room 515, which had a stunning view of the Jefferson Monument. The room was spacious and beautifully designed, featuring a soaking tub, marble shower, smart lighting with dimmer options, and even a doorbell so you can hear when someone is at the door. TVs are cable-only, but the hotel offers Roku devices upon request. The tech team was incredibly helpful, and setup was quick and easy.

What truly stood out most was the customer service, both throughout the hotel and at the spa. Every single staff member—from maintenance to front desk to food and beverage—was warm, knowledgeable, and genuinely happy to be there. That level of consistency is rare, even among luxury hotels. We recently stayed at the Four Seasons Baltimore, and the Salamander easily surpassed it in service.

The spa experience was phenomenal. The heated pool is included, along with lemon water and fresh towels. Spa access is $38 per person plus tax and is well worth it, though subject to availability due to limited capacity. While the spa is co-ed, during our visit it was all women. Amenities include a steam room, sauna, large hot tub with jets and lounge seating, and a quiet relaxation room (what I affectionately called the “meditation room”) where phones are not allowed. They provide snacks, tea, refreshments, lockers, plush robes, and well-stocked locker rooms with toiletries, luxury lotion, and beautiful LED mirrors. The only limitation is a two-hour time limit per guest, and re-entry is not allowed.

Overall, we absolutely loved our stay and enjoyed every moment of the three days we were there. I cannot wait to return, and the Salamander has easily earned a spot at the top of my list of luxury hotels. Highly, highly recommend.”

“5-Stars all around! We were in DC for a concert and at the last minute decided to stay the night and not drive home. We booked on Hotels.com, for a complete steal of $150 +$42 Valet Parking. Was well worth it, only a 10min walk to Capital One Arena. Staff super nice and polite. Room was much bigger than expected. Even got little chocolate mints. Very clean. Mix of a updated hotel, based in the 50's. They have a little bar in the lobby. Only issue was when we were walking to our room, one of the hallways both Snoop Dogg and Willy Nelson must have been staying, my eyes were bloodshot by the time we got through. Our room was fine. Great overnight, would definitely book here again.”

“I recently stayed at the Conrad in Washington, D.C., and I can’t say enough about the exceptional experience we had! The staff went above and beyond to make our stay unforgettable, especially for my husband’s birthday. They surprised us by delivering a beautiful cake, a bottle of bubbly, and even candles to our room – such a thoughtful touch that really made our celebration special! Every staff member we encountered was warm, attentive, and genuinely committed to making us feel at home. The attention to detail and the kindness they showed transformed a simple stay into a cherished memory. Thank you, Conrad, for your hospitality and for going out of your way to make our stay so perfect. Highly recommend for anyone visiting D.C. – we’ll definitely be back!”

“First of all, the location is great.
I enjoyed jogging every morning to the White House, the Capitol, and the Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials. There are many delicious restaurants and cafes nearby.
This is the best location for sightseeing in Washington.

It was a two-bedroom room, and one room had an independent bathroom and closet, so it was comfortable, and the other room had a wide bed and closet, so it was comfortable for four people to stay without being cramped.

The living room was surprisingly spacious and the kitchen was perfect for cooking.
(However, the knife was not very sharp.)

I stayed for a week and enjoyed Washington to the fullest.
I will definitely use it the next time I visit.”

“We had a wonderful stay for two nights at the Canal House. Location was perfect! The lobby bar was perfect for pre dinner drink or night cap. Will definitely stay there again.”

“Good usable hotel with a few restaurants, shops and CVS in neighborhood.

The rooms are OK but a little bit small for the price. Specially that there is no possibility to store not hanging clothes in the wardrobe makes me wondering? If you had to stay threre for more than an few days, you get in trouble with this. No shelves for t-shirts, underwear,.. You have to have it in your luggage or on desk? Crazy.

The personal is very friendly and the breakfast in "Gerards Kitchen" is very expensive, but good.

All together it was OK but almost to expensive for everything in the hotel.

The best was the ? shower head, what works very good, hot and really enough water. The best shower I had in DC in the past 10 years!

Rooms: Small but OK, very good shower.

Walkability: Next to a few shops, stores and restaurants. 10 by walk away from white house, Washington mall and "Black lives meters Plaza"

Food and drinks: Good dining and breakfast, but expensive in "Gerhards Kitchen"”

“This is our second time staying here and it is our DC go to! We love the rooms, the staff is absolutely amazing, and we got upgraded to a suite as we are celebrating my wife’s birthday and Valentines Day. The cafe is extremely nice and food was fantastic. If you like staying in historic building with amazing character, Hotel Lombardy is for you.”

“Lovely stay at The Melrose Hotel. The room was well decorated, clean, and comfortable. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. Mohammed was especially helpful - storing our bags in the back room after check out while we went to breakfast. Our car was parked out front upon our return. Mohammed then loaded our bags in the car . Thank you for the great service!”

“Stayed here the day I proposed to my lady and the hotel staff took such great care of us! After sending them an email in advance, we were given a room upgrade, bottle of wine + goodies and a reserved table with champagne at their rooftop lounge!

This place is an amazing option in Navy Yard, especially if you're going to Albi.”

“We booked this hotel for a weekend getaway where we could truly relax, unwind, and enjoy some quality time together. We checked in later in the evening, and right away we were impressed by how large and beautiful the hotel was.
We parked in front of the hotel to check in and unload our luggage. I was a bit surprised to learn there was a $400 incidental hold placed on my account, as I’m more accustomed to a $100 hold. However, since we’re not wild guests, I wasn’t too concerned. Parking was $36.92 per day, and while the garage was conveniently located directly under the hotel, I do feel that hotel guests shouldn’t be charged that much. If the parking belongs to the hotel, it should be complimentary, or at least offered at a discounted guest rate. We were given drink tickets upon check-in, but we didn’t get around to using them.
Once we entered our room, I took photos and videos and was honestly shocked by the number of visible damages. I immediately called the front desk and was asked to come down and show them the photos. The staff seemed genuinely surprised and explained that housekeeping is supposed to report all damages to management. If these issues weren’t previously reported, I can’t fault management for that. Later that evening, management called our room to apologize and offered to move us to another room. We declined since we loved the corner room and had already settled in. They kindly offered a discount on our first night, which we appreciated.
The hotel is in a great location, right across the street from the train station and about 2 miles from charming Old Town Alexandria. On warmer days, it would be an easy and enjoyable walk. Since it was very cold during our stay, the hotel guests took advantage of the free trolley service, which was a nice bonus.
Breakfast was far from the typical hotel breakfast. There was something for everyone. We enjoyed freshly made omelets, toast, fresh fruit, orange juice, and coffee. The breakfast staff were very kind and friendly, and the hotel overall was very clean and well-maintained.
I did deduct one star because, considering the nightly rate, parking should be free or no more than $15 per day.
Overall, we had a great stay with comfortable night’s rest and delicious breakfast. We didn’t get a chance to try the restaurant this time, but we definitely will on our next visit. We plan on returning again soon.
Ps. This is a pet friendly hotel which was another bonus.”

“Eaton Workshop DC was the host for a recent two-day conference I organized, and for the most part, it was a solid experience. Working with the conference service manager was smooth sailing, and they were responsive and attentive to our needs. Any issues that popped up along the way were swiftly taken care of once we flagged them to the team's attention. On the day of the conferences, the staff was welcoming and accommodated our needs, which was greatly appreciated. However, there are a couple of areas where Eaton could improve. Firstly, let's talk chairs. We spent two full days in conference spaces with two different types of chairs, and both were akin to sitting on bricks. Investing in some comfier, ergonomic options would do wonders for long events like ours. Secondly, the food. The catering menu left a bit to be desired. Options were limited, and what we did get wasn't exactly top-notch. Even the cookies were disappointingly small, barely bigger than Oreos, which left us scratching our heads. A menu overhaul would be a wise move. Despite these critiques, everything else about Eaton Workshop DC was pretty good. Attendees enjoyed their stay, and surprisingly, the bathrooms garnered quite a positive buzz. So, if you're looking for a venue with impressive lavatories, Eaton's got you covered.”

“Update After Checkout:

Though I stand by my various areas for improvement, I’m updating my review from 2-stars to 4 for a few reasons:

1) our stay improved after that first day, including having the internet working flawlessly the last two days of our stay.

2) our room, and the hotel overall, were actually very nice (though the lack of attention to the various details I highlight below still were surprising for a property of this quality).

3) the front desk manager Adam went out of his way to make up for the various issues we were having and ensured our stay improved after those first 36 hours. His responsiveness to our concerns made a big difference.

Original review: This supposed 4-star property isn’t yet ready for prime time. I’m staying here now and we’ve had a terrible experience, despite staying in one of the nicest rooms available (a one bedroom suite on the top floor).

Where to begin…perhaps with the internet that has maybe worked 2 hours out of our 36 here so far. Or how about the bait-and-switch “Autumn special” that included breakfast when we booked, but failed to mention that the restaurant isn’t yet open for breakfast so what’s included is coffee and a croissant at the coffee shop off the lobby. Add that to the terrible tv interface in the rooms that claims to allow casting from your favorite streaming service but doesn’t work, no towels or cups for water in the gym, no place to get ice or fill water bottles on the floor, only one towel hook in our enormous bathroom, meaning one of us has to leave our wet towel draped over a chair in the room, etc., and you get a hotel that looks nice, but fails at so many important details that makes a good hotel stay. Oh, and the hotel is far away from the sites and action in Alexandria. Won’t be staying here again and will be asking for a refund for our special “breakfast” package so we can use that money on a real breakfast elsewhere.”

“AMAZING SERVICE FROM STAFF!! Everyone was friendly and accommodating. The rooms are very very small (smaller than downtown Toronto, I wish I'd checked the square footage) and the walls are thin. It was really hard to get to bed, as DC is a booming area, and we heard a lot of fighting and police cars all hours of the night.”

“Nice hotel with good sized rooms. Friendly staff, great cleaning service, and close to lots of amenities. A/C was a bit low but it was the hottest week in DC and it was working hard. Definitely a nice spot if you’re looking for a location close to things to do.”

“I spend 5 weeks of the year in Rosslyn for meetings and I am so grateful this hotel opened up. I’ve had constant issues in the surrounding hotels with noise, moldy/mildew smelling rooms, outdated rooms and HVAC. This is a brand new hotel just opened fall of 2025 and it is by far the best hotel in Rosslyn. Clean, modern, brand new, super helpful and kind front desk and bar staff, great drinks in the nice lobby bar. Perfect location, just a block walk to the Rosslyn metro if you want to go into DC. I’m about to spend my second week there and I’m looking forward to trying the restaurant in the hotel. My room had a great view of the area, the Potomac and DC and I enjoyed seeing the morning and evening sights. Immaculately clean room and comfortable beds. Highly recommend!”

“You expect quality service when at an upscale or luxury hotel like the Grand Hyatt. Perfect print top the bottom everyone at this hotel provides service like it’s supposed to be. They are engaged and friendly. They make eye contact and acknowledge you when you walk by. They ask how things are going.
Kudos to management for instilling a service culture of excellence at this property and for hiring the wonderful people, which is not easy to do.”

“EXCELLENT choice for a stay with children. Our king bedroom had a door between us and the mini kitchenette and living room, which gave us plenty of extra space as well as an area to block off so our 4 month old wouldn't be woken up by the light. Nightly happy hour is a lot of fun (my husband went without me once when I wasn't back from my conference yet and ended up getting a double pour of wine since the bartender thought our kid was cute). There's a large number of selections for breakfast including made-to-order omelets. The metro stop is a short walk away. Staff were super friendly and people were walking up to ask if we were Zoe's parents by the end of the trip. I'll happily stay here again. You get significantly more space and more free food/benefits than other hotels of similar price in the area.”

“Hotel Washington helped bring a very special weekend together for my new fiancée and I. They were more than accommodating and helping facilitate the delivery of “surprise” items our room at certain times. They really went the extra mile!

Great food location located in the lobby, cool, modern rooms with the options for stunning views of downtown DC.
