“This is such a wonderful, bustling little cozy shop with lots of local goods that are hard to find elsewhere! I got Janie's Mill stone ground organic flour and a bar of soap that smells like heaven. ?”
“My partner attended the University of Michigan for undergrad all the way through her PhD (roughly 10 years). When I met her in 2018, she introduced me to the wonderful place that is By The Pound (we affectionately refer to it as BTP), and it was always a treat to visit. We always stocked up on their candy (which, by the way, is of the highest quality and with EXTREMELY fair prices), coffee, almost any flour you can think of, and any odd spice that you may need. If you only need a tablespoon of something for a recipe that isn't in your cupboard, you don't have to go to Meijer and buy a whole bottle of something you'll rarely ever use! The employees are all very friendly as well. Whenever you need assistance, they go above and beyond to help. Since, we moved to Athens, GA, and BTP is at the top of the list (right next to Sparrow Meat Market) of stores we miss. We often talk about tossing our graduate degrees and just opening up a bulk foods shop here in town. We miss having this resource at our fingertips. The past 2 years, we return to the Michigan area during the winter holidays and always make sure to stop at BTP. Their treats make great stocking stuffers, and I ALWAYS have to stock up on those dark chocolate coconut clusters (I just finished the last one -- hence writing this review -- and I'm sad I can't find anything like them on the internet or here in town). Anyways, highly, HIGHLY recommend By The Pound.”
“Great, and I mean GREAT, fish and butcher counters. And the product mix is amazingly deep for neighborhood market. Lingonberries? Got 'em. Enchilada sauce? Yep. And the owner, couldn't be a nicer guy. I love supporting this market as they support the neighborhood.....and are right next to the Farmer's Market. Love Sparrow Market!”
“I love the store. Pita bread, hummus, baklava, olives, bread, garlic sauce to much more to mention.
Do you Cary garlic speciality bread. Authentic Greek bread.”
“This place is the bomb! Perhaps Ann Arbor's best kept secret. It is a small, authentic market. Food is high quality and prices are very reasonable, especially when compared to a Whole Food's or Plumb Market. Their prepared foods are delicious, really delicious, and come in handy for mid-week meals. Shopping here is a treat. It is my new go-to place.”
“A great little store, with an excellent selection of halal meats, at good prices. Be careful with some of the produce though; I've bought some before that turned out to have mostly gone off.”
“My Happiest Place. 'Staples' like paper products are less costly and Kitchen Prepared food, grains, seems all healthy... especially when Staff Made Mine..Thank you soPeter McMullen”
“Further to my previous review, just want to make sure I got my point across. Thank you for having a staff that works as a team, always happy to help! They set the mood of the store and it's always a very pleasant experience!!”
“The pizza was good! We ordered a large supreme ? It was ready quickly. There was opportunity to purchase one of our favorite beers to take with and accompany the pizza ?. This business is growing in surprising and community positive ways! There was recently music, a taco truck, and other offerings ( yummy baked goods) in their parking lot. The area behind is being developed. There now is a bridge over the stream and places to sit to experience the nature. The lightning and landscaping is growing and extending. It's wonderful to see the beautiful turkeys when they swing by.”

“Great prices without having to pay a membership fee. Doesn't have the variety & volume larger stores, like Kroger, Meijer, & Costco. But decent variety.”
“It’s the best African store he is every nice and the customer service is really great and when you exit they have the Nokia phone soundDefinitely worth it and definitely go to this place”
“Great store, we stop in for family monthly trips to Ann Harbor, can walk in, grab a basket or cart, and grab fresh veggies and any spices or tea needed. And frozen section for anything frozen you might need.
All isles are labeled, and staff are willing to assist if you can't find what you're looking for.
Quick and friendly staff.”
“Down to area from cadillac. Buschs was convient and easy to get to. We got food in deli, BBQ ribs, Carolina slaw and Morocon lentil salad. Plus 2 soups, chicken and wild rice and loaded baked potato. Everything was excellent. Thank you to the gentleman behind deli counter, he was friendly and super helpful. Will definitely be back. Much cheaper than eating at a restraunt.”
“It's very small, but well laid out with a good selection of the kinds of things you can't find just anywhere. I'm very excited to dive in to the fruits of our little shopping spree!”
“lots of good choices to choose from! wish mi goreng or samyang carbonara was there! the lip products i bought were a bit overpriced so i spent 30 dollars more (they were $10 each) than I expected during my trip..edit: carbonara is there now yipeeee. i really love going here only downfall is the prices but ye that's what you get with imported goods i guess (i might just be cheap LOL)”
“Upscale grocery store with appealing produce. Meat and seafood are a step up from average. Prices are on par with the quality of their offerings, but also high on offerings from national brands.”
“Conveniently located.Great wine selection.Limited bread selection. No prime beef that I've seen.Deli items run low near closing.Often difficult to make a left-turn exit on to northbound W Stadium. Might need to turn right or take the rear exit.”
“Very nice and clean. They have all kinds of Asian food items (Japanese, Korean, Thai, Chinese etc) Veggies that you are never going to find in other supermarkets!”

“Every person that has helped me, in the Pharmacy, has been very respectful. No one has ever been rude. I went to Kroger Pharmacy in Ohio and was treated with the same respect and care. I have only used Kroger Pharmacy and have never been disappointed!!”
“This one is much bigger than the other one in Ann Arbor and has a lot more milk. It generally doesn't run out of milk unlike the other one. There are other aspects of the store that I have more selection than other whole foods as well”
“Their produce are definitely way better than the grocery-chains. You can also find those rare fruits and veggies that you can't find in regular stores. Their prices are very good as well. I'd rather shop here because they're more delicious and I also would rather support local businesses. Thank you ZZ's!”
“Did you know Sergeant Pepper’s has food? This liquor store also has snacks, beverages (alcoholic and non), as well as t-shirts, great vibes, and even better service. Love the guys behind the counter, this place is an Ann Arbor staple. 5 stars!”
“This store is on my route. I'm in here 3-4 times a week. Great selection of everything.
I'd say the main highlight of this place is THE PIZZA!
THE PIZZA
THE PIZZA
THE PIZZA!! ?? GO GETCHA SOME!
The place is very clean. Super fast and friendly service
Did I mention THE PIZZA?! YUM YUM YUMMY”
“A great Whole Foods ? clean and often has everything we need. I appreciate the friendliness of the health and wellness staff, it’s the only area I can find an employee of service.”
“Food and soft drinks are pricey but it’s a gourmet store. I buy wine for my customers there because of the amazing selection. The wine is reasonably priced. The front end manager is a young woman with multicolored hair and big glasses- I did not catch her name but she was very friendly and helpful when it came to cashing in my cans the recycling machine would not take”

“In today’s World, and looking for the in the day neighborhood pharmacy this is it! The pharmacists, techs, and additional staff are like stepping, into “Back To The Future”, They all Care. Been using them since 2017 and it is always a pleasure on the phone or in the store. Thanks for making life good. ( Could it be possible that a fountain and grill is on the way)!!!”
“I live right next to Strickland's Market and was hesitant to go because of the reviews saying the employees can be really. However, I really wanted some sake and had a pleasant conversation about how he runs his business to have such a wide selection of alcohol. It's hard to please everyone! Will definitely go back again”
“I love shopping at Meijer even though prices have been going up in the past few years and deals are getting less, but they still have a great selection and it’s in general a clean store.”
“My only gripe is the parking but it's not enough to dock a star. The staff is always SO nice and you can't beat the quality and prices. Even tho it's out of the way, I try to make a stop to stock up on TJ essentials every few weeks. Highly recommend the frozen section, wines, and the triple ginger snap cookies!”
