Honestly, I’m someone who never takes decisions in one go—I usually review multiple options before finalizing anything. But the moment I visited Town Residency, I knew it was the right choice, and I signed the lease right away. The management here is so friendly and welcoming. On my very first day, I even got a chance to spin the wheel and won $500 off move-in day—what a great start! I highly recommend Town Residency to anyone looking for apartments in the downtown area. “I had a fantastic three-year experience living in The Griswold. The building boasts modern apartments with breathtaking city views, and the parking situation is incredibly convenient, a rare gem in downtown Detroit.
But what truly sets The Griswold apart is the exceptional service provided by Chantal and Terrell, the property manager and maintenance manager. They treated me like a member of their family, always ready to address any issue or provide assistance whenever I needed it. Their communication was impeccable, and it was evident that they genuinely cared about the well-being of their residents. This is easily the best management I’ve ever encountered in an apartment complex.
If you’re seeking a downtown apartment, I highly recommend living at The Griswold.”

“Overall my experience has been good. I will agree with others that the morning dumpsters are loud. But I also live in Downtown and it should be expected, we aren't in the country! Lol the lobby and common areas are clean. Maintenance is fast and efficient. The office staff is always super friendly and helpful. All of my issues, which were minor were taken care of quickly. The rent prices are on point for downtown living, so I'm not sure what others are complaining about. Lol The building is in an amazing location around shopping, dining and parks.”

“For downtown living, it's incredibly affordable (aside from parking) with a lot of great amenities. It's right in the heart of downtown so you have access to lots of good restaurants and shops within walking distance. The rooms themselves are very clean, and maintenance responds very quickly when you need something fixed. Highly recommend it!”

“Honestly I don’t understand why this apartment has this poor review rate. I’ve lived here 2.5 years by now and overall I like it a lot. I’ll elaborate pros and cons.
PRO 1: I always get a response from staffs within 24 hours through a resident portal or you can simply call them and talk directly. Every maintenance job has been done in a timely manner, usually within 1-2 days.
PRO 2: Their LG washer/dryer combo is LITERALLY A GAME CHANGER ??? This machine makes my life so much easier.
PRO 3: Needless to say, their location and cleanliness are worth every dollar.
CON 1: It varies by units. I moved from studio to one bedroom. I loved my first unit but the current one? Not really. DO NOT choose those units that have windows facing to the Under Armour building. Their windows are right above the street garbage dumpsters alley. Every morning you will be suffered from big trash collecting noises echoing between those tall buildings for an hour. Plus, the windows are so close to the other side of building windows… I bought $75 privacy window films from Amazon and attached to the windows. Problem resolved. If apartment staffs see this review, I’d recommend to give options to future tenants whether they want this privacy films or not and you install for them.
CON 2: Parking. But I don’t have a car. If you don’t have a car too, 100% recommended.
p.s. I saw another review about stolen package… I’ve never experienced it during my 2.5 year long stay here. BTW they also let you use a few carts available inside the dry cleaning locker room on the first floor. Use that cart if needed and just pick up your package in a timely manner. No problem.”

“What’s going on with the smell inside the two entrances? This problem was not happening doing the summer. Once the heat came on the smell from the dumpsters was terrible. Please get this fixed!”

My apartment has a beautiful view of downtown. I appreciate that everyone working at the leasing office are very accessible and pro-active in resolving challenges.”
“Great exterior architecture!!! Inside has been remodeled into uniform utilitarian apartments, but for the cost of rent you can't beat it!!! (Kamper Stevens down on the next block is also worth checking out) Rent is based on income. Almost all apartments are 1 bedroom 1 bath, except for a few 2 bedroom 1 bath on the 21st floor which are around $1000/month. All apartment's views are spectacular. Rent for all apartments includes heat and water, are cable ready, have air conditioning, and a dedicated cable for the front door camera.”

“That’s Crazy. It’s funny that my neighbors that cause the most problems are the ones that put up a bad reviews. Be careful whose reviews you pay attention to, they are always the same ones acting a fool in the lobby, cussing people out expecting respect in return and have eviction notices on their door.
I think every apartment community I have ever lived in had some type of problem, Nobody’s perfect But I see that they try very hard and do their best if things go wrong. But my work orders get done same day Or the next day. The community Is always clean. The pool is always clean. We got 24 hour security with a phone number we can call for emergencies if needed. I love my apartment, I love my view & my balcony, I love that I’m always close to the festivals downtown. I saw it at its worst and I’m seeing it get and better every day. ❤️”
“I’ve lived here for the last year and have zero complaints. Anthony, Karolina and Barry are some of the best property management staff I’ve encountered. I’ve lived in several different states and always rent so I’ve experienced my fair share of bad property management.
Karolina is always attentive, kind and patient.
Barry is like a maintenance ninja. He’s always on site, rarely seen and everything is always taken care of. When I do run into him he’s the nicest guy ever.
Of course nothing is perfect regarding building wise. Sometimes the fire alarm goes off. There was a minor floor on the first floor last winter from a pipe burst. It’s downtown Detroit so sometimes there are sketchy people outside and parking can be a nightmare. But those are factors outside of one’s control. The Philip Houze team is always quick to respond and the building stays clean.
Location of building is also perfect for downtown. Everything you could need is just a short walk away. Love that the people mover and Q line stops are also near.”

Have lived there before in the past will be moving back into available unit and not so distant future really appreciate the staff as they are courteous and very committed to their job.”
“I have lived here for almost two years and let me just say I love it. As a student this place was easy to get started with, and communication is priority. For full transparency I did have a bug issue, but that is what happens when you live in larger cities, the office was notified and the issue was taken care of quickly along with a follow up treatment just to be sure.
Duana in the office is excellent, she is energetic and seems to really enjoy her job. She values respect so you pay your rent on time and treat her well and she will be your best friend. Never thought I would be sad to leave an apartment complex but this place really is the best.
The apartments have everything you need from in-unit washer and dryer, parking, plenty of Sqft to move around in, as well as nice bedrooms. I would highly recommend moving in here.”
