“I had a fantastic three-year experience living in The Griswold. The building boasts modern apartments with breathtaking city views, and the parking situation is incredibly convenient, a rare gem in downtown Detroit.
But what truly sets The Griswold apart is the exceptional service provided by Chantal and Terrell, the property manager and maintenance manager. They treated me like a member of their family, always ready to address any issue or provide assistance whenever I needed it. Their communication was impeccable, and it was evident that they genuinely cared about the well-being of their residents. This is easily the best management I’ve ever encountered in an apartment complex.
If you’re seeking a downtown apartment, I highly recommend living at The Griswold.”
“I had an amazing experience at Town Residency! Nathan was incredibly patient and spent almost an hour walking me through everything in detail. He was so cool and respectful throughout the process, and it made me feel completely at ease. Honestly, I’m someone who never takes decisions in one go—I usually review multiple options before finalizing anything. But the moment I visited Town Residency, I knew it was the right choice, and I signed the lease right away. The management here is so friendly and welcoming. On my very first day, I even got a chance to spin the wheel and won $500 off move-in day—what a great start! I highly recommend Town Residency to anyone looking for apartments in the downtown area. This is truly the best place—just go for it! I’ll be posting more reviews once I settle in and start living here.”

“Lived here for 3 years and was sad to leave! Based in West Village, it is an amazing location 12-15 min from downtown, corktown, and midtown but has cute bars, bakeries, coffee shops, and boutiques within walking distance. Belle Isle is right across the street.
The management is family owned and they take care of the tenants. Relatively quiet and family-oriented neighborhood. The apartment units are historic and well maintained.”

“For downtown living, it's incredibly affordable (aside from parking) with a lot of great amenities. It's right in the heart of downtown so you have access to lots of good restaurants and shops within walking distance. The rooms themselves are very clean, and maintenance responds very quickly when you need something fixed. Highly recommend it!”
“Overall my experience has been good. I will agree with others that the morning dumpsters are loud. But I also live in Downtown and it should be expected, we aren't in the country! Lol the lobby and common areas are clean. Maintenance is fast and efficient. The office staff is always super friendly and helpful. All of my issues, which were minor were taken care of quickly. The rent prices are on point for downtown living, so I'm not sure what others are complaining about. Lol The building is in an amazing location around shopping, dining and parks.”

“When I moved into the Park Shelton a year ago I hadn’t been considering moving to Detroit. But I was immediately charmed by the lobby’s beautiful architecture and the enticing selection of restaurants and shops and the lifestyle I imagined. My own unit has wonderful architectural details and I never tire of the inspiring view. The building management, the front desk staff and the friendly residents take pride in caring for the building and looking out for each other. Maintenance issues and repairs like heating and air conditioning, roof and window repairs, cleanliness, parking are address proactively by a responsible condo board and tenants are notified of unavoidable short term inconveniences. This is a great home base from which to explore Detroit and to appreciate what this amazing city has to offer.”

“Great exterior architecture!!! Inside has been remodeled into uniform utilitarian apartments, but for the cost of rent you can't beat it!!! (Kamper Stevens down on the next block is also worth checking out) Rent is based on income. Almost all apartments are 1 bedroom 1 bath, except for a few 2 bedroom 1 bath on the 21st floor which are around $1000/month. All apartment's views are spectacular. Rent for all apartments includes heat and water, are cable ready, have air conditioning, and a dedicated cable for the front door camera.”
“What’s going on with the smell inside the two entrances? This problem was not happening doing the summer. Once the heat came on the smell from the dumpsters was terrible. Please get this fixed!”

“Great for a starter place, however the walls are thin. Management seems great, however they need to find more solutions for dealing with aggressive neighbors. I've visited the place several times and each time there's always an aggressive and vulgar, homophobic neighbor screaming threats that can sometimes be heard through an opened window and all the way into the lobby....im guessing her unit is right above the lobby floor . Even though I like the environment, potentially dealing with someone like that, is just a red flag for the building as a whole. People need to feel safe.”
“I’m so glad I moved here I was without a job and Monique made it happen cuz I would be homeless right now this place is truly a gem. Now it has its flaws but what place doesn’t. The neighbors are kind it’s not any commotion. Monique cares and I wish more people were like her”
“I’ve lived here for the last year and have zero complaints. Anthony, Karolina and Barry are some of the best property management staff I’ve encountered. I’ve lived in several different states and always rent so I’ve experienced my fair share of bad property management.
Karolina is always attentive, kind and patient.
Barry is like a maintenance ninja. He’s always on site, rarely seen and everything is always taken care of. When I do run into him he’s the nicest guy ever.
Of course nothing is perfect regarding building wise. Sometimes the fire alarm goes off. There was a minor floor on the first floor last winter from a pipe burst. It’s downtown Detroit so sometimes there are sketchy people outside and parking can be a nightmare. But those are factors outside of one’s control. The Philip Houze team is always quick to respond and the building stays clean.
Location of building is also perfect for downtown. Everything you could need is just a short walk away. Love that the people mover and Q line stops are also near.”

“I have lived here for almost two years and let me just say I love it. As a student this place was easy to get started with, and communication is priority. For full transparency I did have a bug issue, but that is what happens when you live in larger cities, the office was notified and the issue was taken care of quickly along with a follow up treatment just to be sure.
Duana in the office is excellent, she is energetic and seems to really enjoy her job. She values respect so you pay your rent on time and treat her well and she will be your best friend. Never thought I would be sad to leave an apartment complex but this place really is the best.
The apartments have everything you need from in-unit washer and dryer, parking, plenty of Sqft to move around in, as well as nice bedrooms. I would highly recommend moving in here.”

“That’s Crazy. It’s funny that my neighbors that cause the most problems are the ones that put up a bad reviews. Be careful whose reviews you pay attention to, they are always the same ones acting a fool in the lobby, cussing people out expecting respect in return and have eviction notices on their door.
I think every apartment community I have ever lived in had some type of problem, Nobody’s perfect But I see that they try very hard and do their best if things go wrong. But my work orders get done same day Or the next day. The community Is always clean. The pool is always clean. We got 24 hour security with a phone number we can call for emergencies if needed. I love my apartment, I love my view & my balcony, I love that I’m always close to the festivals downtown. I saw it at its worst and I’m seeing it get and better every day. ❤️”

Moving from years of homeownership to apartment living was a challenging and significant decision for me, and I honestly didn't know what to expect from the transition. However, after one month at Lafayette Towers in Detroit, I can confidently say that the experience has been exceptionally smooth, largely thanks to the incredible team here.
The entire staff, across all departments, is truly the best. Everyone is helpful, kind, and genuinely committed to making residents feel at home.
I must offer a special commendation to Tanisha, the Leasing Agent. She is the definition of professional and made the entire leasing process clear and stress-free. Her expertise and welcoming nature were instrumental in ensuring my transition was not only manageable but genuinely pleasant.
Beyond the exceptional staff, the location of Lafayette Towers is a major highlight. We are incredibly close to downtown, putting all the excitement and entertainment Detroit has to offer right at our doorstep. For day-to-day needs, the convenience is unmatched: there is a fantastic shopping plaza literally on the next business plot, just a tenth of a mile away. This plaza features essential quick shops like Lafayette Foods, the delicious Urban Soul, and even a great nail place, among others.
If you are considering a move, especially if you are transitioning from owning a home, I highly recommend Lafayette Towers. The building is excellent, but it's the professional and supportive staff and the unbeatable location that makes this community truly stand out.”
