“It’s actually insane how perfect this store is. It has a phenomenal assortment of books with a creative layout by subgenre. Want splatterpunk? Horror romance? Literary? They’ve got sections for it! The dim lighting and dark paint makes the space feel incredibly cozy and comforting, in an eerie haunted house way. Feeling too claustrophobic? They have a backyard with plentiful seating! There’s a restroom, always clean, with free tampons. There is a cafe with an excellent drinks menu and local baked goods, and wine and beer! The non book merch is soooo cute; it’s a struggle not to drop hundreds of dollars here. Pins, cards, stickers, jewelry, socks, tees, etc. The staff are all so warm and welcoming too. And the open hours are long, with lots of cool events in the evenings! Genuinely this is my favorite business in all of Brooklyn.”

I read 2 to 3 books a week and absolutely love this store. There is nothing like turning the pages of a real book!”
“Liz’s Book Bar is the chic, stylish cousin of the classic indie bookstore. Some bookstores lean a little gritty (which I can also love), but LBB is clean and polished while still feeling completely independent. People are friendly. I heard several people strike up conversations (with strangers, to be clear). At one point I overheard a woman recognize another woman from TikTok and they started chatting. That kind of thing felt very normal here.
I came in for a drink with a friend who lives in the neighborhood and it was such a great space that I ended up asking the owner if I could host my discussion group (20-40 people depending on the night). A couple months later I held my Sad Rich Girl Salon at LBB and it was wonderful. The staff was so helpful and warm. Gave us mics. Cleared the floor and setup chairs. (Honestly, this event was better run than several of my “official” tour stops arranged by my publishing team.)
There was also a really cute moment where I met a woman who follows me on IG and had read my book and just happened to be at LBB that night (total coincidence). She bought a copy for her friend and asked me to sign it. it was one of those serendipitous moments that happen all the time in nyc but still feels so movie-like.
Added bonus: LBB sold out my book for the event

Lots of great fiction, graphic novels, social justice oriented books, books by POC authors, and liberatory content, including People’s History posters and zines. I adore the vibe of this bookstore and the people who work here are warm, kind, and great at recommending perfect books. A staple Bed-Stuy establishment that represents the community in many ways. Please let this bookstore stay in our community for a long time ?”

“The Spanish classes are so wonderful! I've found the instructors to be patient, kind, and amazing at encouraging students to speak up and learn in class. I've only take the virtual courses so far, which have been really engaging despite taking place online (where it may feel tough to speak up). All of the students were there to learn, which made class super fun and interesting. Thank you for the amazing TV, music, and movie recs too!”

The part I didn’t expect was the care surrounding packaging for transport. The packaging told me EVERYTHING I needed to know about Nicholas Brooklyn. If this type of packaging doesn’t show you they care about books… I really don’t know what else does. This shows they love books just as much as the person ordering. ??????”
“As the name suggests this is a community bookstore! Great selection of books old and new, small but mighty even has a good kids/YA section. I’ve loved getting books here because of the vibe but most importantly the people working behind the counter! Each time I’ve asked a question they’ve had answers and recommendations for me. Hope you remain a neighborhood staple!”
“One of the best Islamic bookstores in NYC/NJ. They have a large collection of Quran in Urdu/Arabic/English, kids storybooks, adult books on islamic etiquettes and history.”

“This is the place that I come to for all my Judaica. And I find that when I compare the price of an item I want to buy with other places on Kingston Ave, they always have the lowest price. Plus they are the nicest people. I come here because the customer service is great. And they are super helpful. I always get my mezuzos checked here.The service is quick. The mezuzos are always ready when they say they will be ready. And the price is right.”

“i could get lost walking along these shelves. there's such variety, and each section blends so well with each other; even the staircase has a shelf lined with books! the space is a lot larger than it seems from the outside, and super cozy. the staff is also super nice. i didn't find any bargain book section, but the general selection was extremely vast and there was a cool vintage books section in the back!”
“Desert Island is truly an oasis for Indie/art comics in New York City. You can tell that the owner is passionate about curating the shop. It’s an incredible place to discover something interesting and to be inspired. There’s a great children’s section for young readers. They produce their own free newspaper format comic as well that’s always filled incredible content.”

“OMG, you guys! I just found the most amazing bookstore in Brooklyn! Freebird is like a treasure trove for book lovers! They have the most unique and rare books I've ever seen. I'm talking vintage pulp fiction, underground comics, and poetry that'll blow your mind. The owner is super knowledgeable and will hook you up with recs. Plus, the vibe is so cozy and chill, you'll wanna hang out all day. They even have a rad reading nook and host sick events. If you're a bookworm like me, you gotta check this spot out! 5 stars, hands down! ??”
“I realized I didn't order a Talis for the high holidays / wasn't sure which I should get. Called 1/2 hour before they were closing, spoke to a friendly gentleman who asked some questions, gave some great advice and took the order over the phone. I got it the next day (They are in NY, I am in NJ).

“Beautiful ambiance. Very cutesy decor. Nice bar downstairs and it has a backyard. Black woman owned bookstore and bar in Bedstuy ! Staff were super nice and friendly. Would love to visit again in warmer months. My only complaints are 1. I sat downstairs at the bar for 30 minutes without service. Went back upstairs and was told by the one worker upstairs that I need to order my drink with him, pay for It there, then give him a few minutes to come downstairs to serve me. Very confusing but I think that was based on short staffing issue because later on, there was a bartender downstairs at the actual bar.
2. a glass of wine cost about $17 and it’s barely half a glass ? seems overpriced to me. Otherwise this is a dope spot.”
