“Well stocked hardware store full of everything you'd need. The guy working there was helpful, knowledgeable, and courteous. I was in and out of there with everything I needed in less time than it takes to even find the right aisle at the big box store. If you value your time and money this is the best place in the neighborhood.”
“Such an amazing store. Service America. Really great customer support. I needed keys made. They had the keys in stock. They make excellent keys for you. Economy prices. Lots of air filters. Lots of household supplies. They were very friendly to my small dog. I needed some Garden Vinegar. Which is a higher concentration than household vinegar. They had it available and the technician showed me right where it was. Another technical expert gave my dog a treat. My family loves this store. I saw lots of items I want for the future. A variety of backyard pools. Inflatable and vinyl. Lots of backyard and outdoor items.”

Despite several different owners over the years, they have consistently maintained great customer service, a clean and orderly store, great product selection, and fair prices. “Stopped into this place with a list of oddball fasteners, including metric, shoulder bolts, stainless, and galvanized. They had everything on my wish list - and way cheaper than McMaster or Grainger. They have other things at the store too - angle grinder discs and sanding pads, zip ties, hole saws, sealants, solvents etc”
“I cannot recommend Commonwealth Lumber highly enough! We used them recently for a kitchen renovation and deck addition and it was such a wonderful experience! Dealing with a local company that actually knows who you are when you call or stop in is so rare these days and both Bill and Jan were so knowledgeable and helpful every step of the way! I am working on a very large infrastructure project in the area and a couple times now this place has saved me while in a pinch looking for a tool/material that wasn't in stock anywhere else. The variety of brands from Pittsburgh to Milwaukee to Morse really cannot be found making Dak Tool and Supply pretty unique. It appears to be family owned and operated and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Typically with places like this the prices will be a bit higher than big box retailers due to volume but the few times I have been here the items I purchased were comparable and even cheaper than I would've paid. Overall solid place that has been clutch for me on multiple occasions.”

They have parts that others don't stock. Also worth mentioning that their local service is really fast. Time between a phone-call and a part being in hand has frequently been < 1hr. “I try to patronize "mom and pops'" wherever geographically I am at that time of need, but especially in the community I find myself living in and spending a majority of my time. That said, I wandered into Wilkes with a question, the likes of which were admittedly ambiguous and given that my knowledge of the English languages' adjectives are nothing to write home about Jack, the apparent owner gave me the time of day and despite not ending up having the hardware I needed pointed me to a close location that had more chances of stocking what I needed. I ended up buying some WD-40, of which I have 5 cans of, from him anyway as a tip of the hat on my way out because it always feels good to wash each other's hands and if we're honest, WD-40 is hobbyists'/DIY'ers cheat code. “The staff was incredibly helpful, even when they were swamped with other customers. The girl at the register spotted that my wrench set was missing a piece right before I bought it and got me another set, great attention to detail! The only con is that the parking lot is kinda small and cramped.”

“Called ahead after I Google Satellited the place & saw how little space they had for a 53ft dry van. Was told I was more than welcome to come the night prior to stay over night. Told I could go ahead & break seal & dock only in the dock by the wall. Guy said they'd wake me up when they were done unloading. Other docks are for pickup trucks & box trucks. I complied. I also put the ppw in the back of the trailer. Surprisingly, they started on my trailer at 0600. Got ppw at 1015.”

“A real-deal old-school hardware store with eclectic offerings. Need a cast iron skillet and a washboard? They've got it. Odd bits of hardware our of the same era as the houses in the neighborhood? Yep. Knowledge that you can't find at Home Depot? They have some of that too. Every old neighborhood needs to covit little hardware stores like this that have the unique ability to serve their distinct neighborhood in a way big box stores just can't.”
