“I'll assume if you are reading a review about Trader Joe's that means you've never been there. Most stand-alone TJ's don't have enough parking, but this one benefits from being part of a larger shopping center so there is good parking (Bend, Oregon). TJ's is not where you go to do all your normal shopping, it is where you go when you want something different. Most items can't be found at other stores. Examples include frozen dinners that actually taste good, the selections for wine and beer, and snacks. Oh, the snacks. Customer service is always excellent at all TJ's. The stores are all a bit small and usually a bit crowded. They arrange the aisles diagonally. Don't know why. If it is your first time, stroll all the aisles so you get a grasp of what is available (for next time).”

I only grabbed two as this is a weekend jaunt to Bend, but trust me when I say there were way more than I’m used to seeing. “We stopped by for coffee, a little gas to top off, and most importantly, to clean our windshield of accumulated bug splats. The store opens at 6am, but at 8:30 they still had not filled the windshield cleaning buckets. They were dry. I started the gas pump, then went in and let someone know in a friendly tone that the cleaning fluid buckets were empty. There were three staff members behind the counter. Then I used the bathroom (clean and functional) and got a coffee. (They had an amazing array of flavors. Three of the dispensers were empty but I got a good-tasting coffee from the remaining ones.) I paid and went outside. Ten minutes had passed but no one had come out to fill the buckets, so we cleaned the windshield with supplies we had on hand and moved on. Just as we were driving away we saw someone come out to the buckets, apparently to confirm that they were empty.”

Low and behold it was all gone at this Safeway too ! However, while complaining to my friend that I had wasted a trip, a store employee suddenly was at our side asking what the problem was. When I told him he said go ahead and pick out any salad packages you want that are available and he would give them to me at the digital deal that had sold out. What a sweetheart ! So a big shout out to Donnie in Produce for his outstanding customer service (without even being asked - he approached us ! )”

“Scheduled a Shingrix vaccine a couple of months ago to get caught up with new recommendations based on my age (thanks being over 50 now!) My physician recommended the Safeway pharmacy as her office did not stock the vaccine regularly. It was easy to schedule online and the pharmacist who gave me the vaccine was very professional and accomplished and used standard technique. I was impressed with how easy and streamlined the process was. I'll be getting the second in my series in a few months and was already able to schedule the appointment.”

“I called both the Costco and Safeway pharmacy’s to get vaccinated for work. and had no answer from either one. Phones just kept ringing. Since I got no answer, I drove to Costco to ask if they did walk in’s but they said it was too late in the day. I called Fred Meyer pharmacy and they answered right away. They not only had better hours, but more friendly staff who were knowledgeable.”
“Fred myers is nice if you are quickly in and out,, anything more entails extra time and travel if you plan on enjoying all there attractions , from electronics which isnt geek squade or blockbuster they do have a very nice selection for any interest. Walmart wants your groceries at the door before the ice cream softens. On May 29, the retailer said its 30-minute-or-less delivery had reached 33 U.S. markets, adding a wave of new cities across the Northeast. Shoppers in those areas can order from more than 100,000 items, everything from fresh produce and baby formula to pet food, electronics, cold medicine, and prescriptions. Behind the scenes, the service leans on Walmart's store network and an algorithm that factors in order size, available drivers, and distance from the store.
Trader Joe's keeps adding stores, and shoppers keep showing up. The California grocer has marked nine more locations as "opening soon," pushing its expansion into new corners of the country. The grocer also took first place in the American Customer Satisfaction Index's 2026 supermarket rankings. It has held a spot near the top of that list for years.
Target is rolling out its most ambitious store overhaul in more than ten years, with plans to remodel over 130 locations and open 30 new stores across the country this year. The retailer is also putting money into supply chain technology upgrades to keep pace with how shoppers buy today.
Kroger is spending $112 million to build two new stores and renovate 15 existing locations across central and northwest Ohio. The company calls it a "record-breaking" commitment to the region. The two new Kroger Marketplace stores will rise in Canal Winchester and Delaware, Ohio, each costing roughly $30 million to build. Kroger broke ground on the Canal Winchester location on March 19 at the southeast corner of Diley Road and Greengate Boulevard. The 118,000-square-foot store is expected to open in late fall 2026 and will create around 250 jobs.
Loblaw Companies Limited is putting serious money into its retail network this year. Canada's largest food and pharmacy retailer announced it will spend $2.4 billion in 2026 to open new stores, renovate existing locations and strengthen its supply chain. The company plans to open 70 new stores in 2026. That includes 34 Shoppers Drug Mart and Pharmaprix pharmacies and care clinics, along with 31 hard-discount No Frills and Maxi grocery stores. On top of the new openings, Loblaw will renovate another 191 stores and continue construction on a roughly 1.2 million-square-foot automated distribution center in Caledon, Ontario.
