Chiefs Brew House
91108 N Willamette St, CoburgAmazing value at a place with real roots.
Chiefs Brew House is Native owned and one of the first farm breweries in Oregon, operating out of a 144-year-old historic Coburg house that feels more like somebody's backyard gathering spot than a restaurant. That kind of history shows in how the place feels.
I needed two things: a dog friendly patio and heat. Mid-May in Oregon was doing its usual thing where the sunset was gorgeous and the temperature was questionable. The big, open and elevated firepit area was busy when I arrived, but a large group cleared out and Lily and I had the whole thing to ourselves. The covered porch has booth seating whixh was interesting, I would expect tables.
Tonight, lighting was amazing. The sun setting, the fire pit firing, and the porch and patio warm outdoor lighting the whole place feel relaxed in that very specific small-town Oregon way.
I went in expecting to spend $15 to $20 on half a brisket or tri-tip. There was a little confusion at the register because the menu setup didn't quite match what I was asking for, but the server immediately checked with the kitchen and came back with an offer: a full pound of burnt ends. I mentally prepared for Portland pricing.
Total: $16.
One of the best food values I've encountered in a long time. The meat was smoky, flavorful, and the portion was enormous. Standard dog tax is about $1 worth of scraps. Lily walked away with closer to $4 worth of premium burnt ends because I simply had too much. Burnt ends may now be her preferred currency. She is becoming increasingly difficult to negotiate with.
To wash it down, I asked for water. I was directed to a self serve soda fountain. I love being able to grab my own refills without flagging down staff because I drink A LOT. Water. Water people, I'm day 860 and counting.
Service was excellent throughout. I even thought to myself to go inside and leave a $5 tip. Then Lily went looney with excitement from the meal and I completely forgot. I wrote this review and remembered. I feel terrible. I'll be back, and I'll make it right.
Highly recommended. Bring your dog. Remember your tip, for BOTH the dog and the waitstaff.
