“What a pleasant surprise this museum was.

It’s divided into 4 sections: the visitor/gift center, main gilded-age mansion, house with veterans stuff, and the New Exhibit building.

The main mansion is beautifully decorated and has a lot of descriptive plaques. But you can also just take in the spaces and be totally satisfied with just admiring it all. Several floors, with upper levels containing some more specific exhibits (St. Vincent’s Hospital when we were there).

The Morrison House has more of a military history focus, and also has some geographic information about the old Erie Canal (PA).

The New Exhibit had a feature on Frank Lloyd Wright which was neat, and also had lots of information on the residents of Erie over the years.

Easily could spend several hours at the museum to see everything. Good selection of Erie/region specific items in the gift shop. Should also note if you come with a group, you could get a good deal by signing up as a member.”

“Very nice and quiet place to be. As long as they ain't got riff raffs in there. They'll be all right. I enjoy the private club. Where you would not have to worry about being shot. But being in the wrong place at the wrong time. This club offers a very protective service and nice clientele.”

“The Barber National Institute is a great place for everyone. They don't judge you. We are also an equal opportunity employer. Looking for people who want to help change lives, and help make people's dreams come true. The pool is a fun place to go, and they also hold other events in the gym. I want to say I am an employee of the Barber Institute, and it's the best job I've ever had. We all work to help people have better lives, and what's better than that?”

“Beautiful historical home in downtown Erie. The rooms have many antiques staged in the large rooms and bed rooms. Many events through out the year to attend for a small fee. Food and beverages may be served at events as well. The home is available for parties (holiday events, bridal, showers and birthday parties- contact them for info) catering is not provided by the home for personal events. Consider a membership to help with the costs of upkeep!”

“The Erie Downtown Partnership is a great asset to the Downtown Erie Community. I've worked with their team over the past two years and they genuinely care about the residents, the businesses, the visitors and everyone else who frequents downtown. A lot of their efforts go unnoticed because it happens out of the public eye but these guys put their hearts into their job and I am incredibly thankful for the work they do! Thank you!”

“There's nothing better than being in a old school club. They are much than a standard bar or pub. The Pulaski Club has great people, great prices, and a great atmosphere. Of course, you have to know someone to get in or be a member.”

“This agency provides some of the best immediate groundwork for veterans and places emphasis on crisis management for veterans in need of basic essential life services. Fast, prompt and straight forward service. They identify and direct their attention to the important needs of the veteran seeking help while finding solutions. I am so happy that to have an organization like this for veterans in the area.”

“Gretchen made donating here a breeze! I called on a whim and 10 mins later I was on my way to donate 5 large bags of children’s clothes to this center. Gretchen was kind over the phone and explained where they were located, where to park and she even met me at the front door with a helper to transport the baby clothes.

As a first generation American, I’m especially grateful for the work refugee organizations do to make Erie a more welcoming city.”

“Prior to covid this was the only place I would go. They still have wonderful people and great equipment. However, because of maintenance issues I have to go to Glenwood to use the pool. The downtown pool should be open late spring early summer.”

“I am a new member. My looong feedback here is a result of the survey that the Y emailed to me after I joined as a member...

1) I enjoyed one morning senior class so far and found everyone helpful by setting me up with the equipment being used. The class was fun and challenging. I liked this incentive to rise early and to adjust my sleeping schedule.
2) I had a limited ROM from disuse of my left leg- too much sitting after retiring years ago. By using the plastic steps and risers, I've regained most of my step climbing ability. I also like using the dumbbells in that room and the mirrors to check my form.
3) I like the ARC Trainer and it provides a terrific workout while building endurance. I then generally use a few more arm and leg machines, stretch on the simple but effective Precor bench-like aid, and then walk on a treadmill to cool down or use the upstairs track.
4) I appreciate the hours that the gym is available, although an extra hour or two until closing on Sundays would be nice to have.
5) The Y appears to be clean, and I can see staff working during operating hours.
6) I am excited about having registered for pickleball lessons in early June. They will be conducted at the Eastside Y and I hope to be fit enough to learn and play well soon.
7) I like that classes have been developed to address mental and emotional fitness, too.
8) There is a good variety of physical fitness classes that I plan to try.
9) I think it's great that the Y has youth and other outreach programs. It's never too early or late to become holistically developed and meet new friends.
10) It's great that staff monitor the exercise areas to help with equipment and answer questions. It also makes me feel safe while there.
11) Most of the desk staff are friendly and helpful.
12) It's super that Erie has several YMCA locations. How lucky are we?
13) The website is updated to keep pace with offerings and changes.
14) The locker rooms and showers are nice.
15) I haven't tried the pools, hot tub, or sauna yet, but they're guarded well and very nice to have.
16) Discovering the chapel's openness was unexpectedly nice.
17) Last but not least, I really appreciate that the Erie YMCAs accept and welcome Silver Sneakers. I'll be contributing to the annual campaign.
18) I appreciate your early survey regarding my experiences.”
