“We’ve been trusting Honest1 with the maintenance and repair of our hybrid vehicles for years. The owner and technicians still have mechanical working knowledge beyond computer codes and a healthy respect for customer service. It shows! The latest was a transmission fluid service, engine thermostat replacement, and bypass coolant valve replacement on one of our vehicles. They are extremely open and honest about parts and labor cost every step of the way and have you approve the total before they begin working. I cannot stress enough how they put the “beyond” in above and beyond customer service! They will do your best to get the job done right and get you on your way with as little downtime as possible. They even called me about a week after the service to make sure everything was still running smoothly! “I want to give Five Stars to a mechanic that is employed at this shop. I took my Pickup Truck there in 2025 for a valve cover leak. Both valve cover gaskets were replaced $287). Then the January 2026 freeze up in Kansas occured and I find myself with a valve cover leak once again. I've been driving quite a while and never heard of having to replace valve cover gaskets a 2nd. year in a role due to extreme cold weather. Thinking the value cover gasket was fixed ($300), I discovered it was still dripping oil. I took my truck back in a second time and they said the leak was coming from the front engine main seal ($285). Got the main seal replaced.
The truck was still dripping oil. The shop manager wanted to do a bird shot shotgun blast to just replace the rear main seal and Oil pan gasket for $1,200 to $1,500. I felt like I was being horned by the devil and took my Pickup Truck to a place that actually got into looking for the drip. It was coming from the oil pan gasket and plug. Always use a new oil pan drain plug whenever you change your engine oil. They will never tell you to do that. Make sure when shop replaces valve cover gaskets that they do not use the old bolts. Take your own in with you to make sure.
I find the manager of this establishment to be greedy and shady. I believe he was milking me. That's my personal view and mine alone. I suspect him to be that type of manager. Use caution in dealing with ALL auto repair shops that use their Confidential Black Book they use to squeeze you for more money.
Most professional mechanics know full well that an oil pan gasket replacement is is 1 hour 45 minutes by a good mechanic. One hour of labor, that includes paying for the labor and accessibility to the shop ($150 to $175 per labor/shop hour. They will charge you 2.4 hours according to their Confidential Black Book for the same gasket replacement of only 1 hour. You're being charged for 1 hour 40 minutes more time than the job actually took. Where I come from that is called fraud.... In the end, I took my Pickup Truck to Hiway 64 Tire Shop 11777 State Hwy 64, Tyler, Texas and the guy there only charged me $200 even to replace the Oil pan gasket. Most auto repair shops would have charged the black book price of $450 to $585, of which Christian Brothers Auto repair Shop in South Tyler wanted to charge me.”
