“Moved in in January during the massive snowstorm with my wife - everyone from the leasing office to the concierges have been nothing but incredibly helpful every step of the way - and continue to this day. Anytime we had any issues, they had been resolved within the same day or a day later. Issues like our dryer making loud noises, our shower head having low water pressure to our AC being broken at 10p.m - especially in the case of the AC, they showed up at 11pm and STILL fixed it!

Recently had a battery issue with my truck and the leasing office was super helpful and lend me a jumper too!

“I've lived here since 2014 and, very recently, this property transferred ownership from Equity Residential to Greystar. Leading up to this transfer, Equity began to neglect the needs of many residents, including myself. They also let multiple parts of the property deteriorate, creating a less-then-desirable living situation where service requests could take months, entry doors were left broken, homeless were living in the underground parking garage, broken fire alarms were going off monthly, and undisclosed fees kept tacking onto rent.

While online research may lead one to believe Greystar is more of the same, I must say that they have far exceeded expectations over the past several months. They immediately began fixing the aforementioned issues. We now have pristine, working elevators, better security, fully attentive office staff, and a world class maintenance team. Jenna is the new property manager, and she has been fully engaged with me and other residents in addressing current and lingering problems from before the transfer.

In addition to these infrastructural improvements, this new management group is classier, provides key information (like elevator outages) to residents in real time, hosts better events, and simply engages us in more genuine and meaningful ways. Thankfully, Greystar managed to retain our beloved concierge, Grover, who works here every morning. We also have Maria and a hand full of others working the front desk, always providing a welcoming entry.

Aside from fixing several lingering issues around my apartment after the transfer, they detected a critical issue with my entire water heating system/boiler - a problem I had reported to Equity over a year ago. This resulted in a weeklong project where they had to dissect the system and piping from my walls, involving multiple different contractors, plumbers and roofers. Our maintenance lead, Max, saw through this entire process providing daily updates and juggling multiple contractors.

While I was predetermined to move out at the end of my current lease, I'm actually considering staying here now that we have a fantastic management team.”

“Came in for a 4 pm appointment to view apartments, my car broke down where the maintenance men had to help out. Which I give 5 stars for because they were so patient and helped me out for. They did a lot for someone that isn’t a tenant. The apartment itself was nice, Cal or Kal did a great job. These apartments are too far of a commute for my fiancé and I’s jobs/career we have which I told Cal/Kal about. Me, having to travel to Vienna and Springfield and for him for PG county. Everyone did a great job of course! And appreciate the patience from the people in the leasing office!”

“This building is in a great spot in Clarendon with awesome amenities. My space was clean and had great storage space and appliances when I arrived. I am very happy with my experience so far at The Beacon Clarendon.”

“I haven't moved in, yet, but I did think it would be worth noting that the people in the leasing office were amazing. I have looked at multiple complexes in the last week and most of them were not even thrilled to assist me on a self-guided tour appointment. It personally makes a huge difference to me when the people that are helping me find my home helps me feel comfortable and are personable. Cristian answered every question with such confidence and kindness and the homes looked pretty good for an old complex. If and when I move in, it will most likely be because of him!”

“I have been staying here for the last 7 months and have become very friendly with the staff. Myra is very sweet and always has a smile on her face. I love that they are painting walls and cleaning carpets so the place stays looking nice.They also keep the place smell great. You would never know that there are many pets in the building from how great it smells and look.”

“The front desk staff is great and the building is fine.

The primary reason for rating 4 stars is Equity tried to raise my rent almost $400 after my lease ended. I was able to convince them to lower it a bit but the increase was still outrageous and I see available units listed on their site with the same floor plan as mine listed for less. They are price gouging me because they know I already live here and don’t want to move out which is a shameful money-grabbing tactic. There have been no changes since I moved in that warrant a rent increase anywhere near this large.

Edited review from 3 to 4 stars as a previous maintenance issue turned out to be a misunderstanding that was rectified quickly upon submitting a second request. The maintenance team has always been great, but I had initially thought the ownership was dropping the ball on replacing my hot water tank. It turned out it just wasn’t turned on correctly.”

“Lived here for 3 years and couldn’t speak more highly of an apartment building. It hits on everything you want from incredible location, to great staff, available amenities, and friendly community.

The location is top notch. It’s a short walk from the Courthouse metro, which makes getting into DC a breeze. It’s close to amazing restaurants and good grocery stores. The rooftop offers a beautiful view of the Washington Monument and the Jefferson Memorial, which makes it an amazing place to watch the 4th of July fireworks.

The maintenance crews are remarkably fast and courteous. The building manager(s) and front desk people are very helpful and friendly. They’re all so communicative about any interruptions that might have even the smallest chance of affecting you.

The rooftop pool is awesome and offers that same beautiful view of DC. The building seems to be throwing events all the time that are a ton of fun and a good chance to get to know your neighbors. The gym isn’t spectacular but it’s got just about everything you need to keep active. The parking garage has plenty of spaces as well as electric car chargers. Also, while elevator is unfortunately the only means of getting to and from your floor, they’re reliable and immediate. Not sure I’ve ever had to wait more than a moment for an elevator my entire time there.

Gonna miss this place! Wonderful area and even better apartment.”

“I have lived here for 15 months. This place has many advantages. First, if you want to stay more than a year, you can flexibly set the contract period. Second, the gym is better than anywhere nearby. Third, the elementary school bus can be taken directly from the building corner. Fourth, the library, movie theater, and subway station are a 5-minute walk away. Fifth, you can walk around Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, Safeway and Giant's. Sixth, it's behind a busy road, so the neighborhood is safe and quiet. Seventh, the staff is very friendly. Even though I'm a foreigner, whenever I asked for help, they smiled and helped me, and if there was anything I needed to repair, they came the next day and solved it. I'm going back to my country today, but I don't think I can forget my life here. Thank you to the staff.”

“Brandi was an exceptionally helpful leasing agent for us — and helped my partner and I get into a great unit very quickly. She wasn’t only welcoming and fun to work with, but also went over and beyond to help us get our ducks in a row and get the new place we needed. There was a lot of detail to get through quickly and she made that process simple and intuitive (and fast!). She’s also just clearly a wonderful person. We are super glad we found her and would highly recommend anyone looking in the area to check out the building — and find time to do a tour with her!”

Dittmar in general are great property managers (I lived in another of their buildings before this one), and I couldn't accept my lease renewal offer fast enough after my first year here. “I lived here for 25 years and somehow the last years I lived here were the best of the bunch. Extenuating circumstances led me to move to a new building but I lived in three units in this complex. I enjoyed fantastic management and maintenance. It's a place that makes it easy to meet your neighbors and form lasting friendships with them. The spaces are peaceful, spacious, and well maintained. I've no regrets living here as long as I did and I'm grateful to the building manager and the management company for making my stay so great.”

“I have lived here for 14 years and own two units in the building. While the building is nearing its 60th birthday, it is still in great shape. All the inspections are up to date and the association gets regular reviews of its budget and capitol projects to ensure that the building remains safe. As an older building, you get cool things like more space, beautiful original parquet flooring (if it hasn't been replaced), large balconies, ample parking, and thick, concrete walls that mitigates noises from the neighbors.In these 14 years the building has done a remarkable job of updating and improving. Off the top of my head, we've had new chillers, new boilers, new plumbing, concrete repair, new lobby, new rec room, new party room, renovated laundry rooms and regular washer/dryer equipment updates, renovated hallways, new elevators, updated gym, and updated pool.But because the building is old, has 504 units with 1000+ people in it, and backs up against a creek, you may see the occasional bug. There is regular pest control paid for by the association and individual units can always ask for extra visits. Being in an urban area, pests are inevitable - I have friends who live in brand new luxury apartments/condos that face similar problems to the Carlton with pests. In my 13 years I have never had a pest problem in either of the two units I own.The community is very friendly - and pet friendly too. Management does a remarkable job, especially given everything they need to deal with on a daily basis. They are running a multi-million dollar annual budget building with 1000+ people. All the staff are friendly and professional, and care about the community as if it were there own.Bottom line - is the building perfect? No. But it is well-run, in a great location, and amazing value for your money.”

The apartment is a bit expensive however it provides an amazing atmosphere and beautiful place to show off to guest. Everyone I've met are friendly and you will not regret taking a look.”

“Our daughter recently relocated from the Midwest to the DC area for a job and decided on The Zoe for her new home. Taking care of everything online and sight unseen can be a bit daunting, but the staff made it a seamless and easy process. We were welcomed on move in day by extremely friendly and professional staff, given a full tour and use of loading dock and freight elevator. The building is absolutely gorgeous with fantastic amenities. The location is lovely with many restaurants, bars, shopping and outdoor activities within easy walking distance. Every member of the staff has been warm, welcoming and so helpful. Dajuan went above and beyond to accommodate us and though I don’t remember everyone’s names, suffice it to say that all of the lovely people at the desk are wonderful! My daughter loves it so far and we know it would be a beautiful place for anyone to call home. Thank you, Zoe staff!!”
