Outback Brewhouse and Mexican Food
7995 Thomas Nelson Hwy, LovingstonLove! Love! Love this cozy and low key brewery. Run by a delightful couple… she’s an amazing brewer and he’s makes incredibly tasty Monterey style tacos and more. Try the street corn Omg. The salsas are all handmade and delicious. The wood fired pizzas are nice too.There’s a great array of brews, with many on the malty side. We love the Dingo Red and the Dark Lager. The Summer the Belgian light is so refreshing without being too thin. Seriously we like everything there (and I am picky about my beer)
There’s a nice deck out back and some seating down by the creek under the trees. It’s not a typical big bustling beer hall; rather it’s cozy and friendly. People feel free to talk to other patrons, many of whom are locals.
The owners are very community-minded. There are often signs promoting local benefits and events. They even hosted a Sunday afternoon crafting event with another local business “Loving Fibers” Nothing like sipping on a nice brew while working on your knitting project!

Wood Ridge Farm Brewery
165 Old Ridge Rd, LovingstonOne of my new favorite stops EVER! Woodridge Farm Brewery is one of those places that sneaks up on you and then refuses to let your heart go. This property is massive! Like, "did I just wander into a rustic resort?" levels of big and every corner has its own personality. First stop? The farm market. And listen... I could've spent my entire vacation budget right there. Shelves stacked with homemade canned goods, sauces, jams, salsa, pickled everything, and more pumpkins than Cinderella could handle. Total cozy-country heaven. The grounds are seriously gorgeous. You get these pockets of space that feel secluded and peaceful, almost like a secret beachy cabin retreat dropped into the Virginia mountains. There are tons of tables outside so you can sip and snack in the sunshine, plus a driving range, volleyball pits, and a giant "LOVE" sign that basically begs you to take a photo. Inside, the bar is warm, rustic, and charming the kind of spot that feels like it was built for good drinks and even better stories. They had a food truck the day we visited (I didn't see in-house food options), which just added to that relaxed, festival-by-the-lake feeling. Between the gorgeous scenery, the spacious layout, the drinks, and the vibes? This was easily one of my favorite stops on our travels. 10/10 would go back in a heartbeat.

Nelson SPCA - Operating Almost Home Pet Adoption Center
29 Stagebridge Rd, LovingstonFor context, I lived 8 years in an apartment that did not allow pets. I wanted one, especially through the pandemic, but could not afford to move. Last year, my long time girlfriend and I moved to Lynchburg to start over and be closer to what little family I have left.
Once we had our feet under us, we shopped around for a while. From Amherst, Appomattox, Danville to Lynchburg, etc. and we couldn't find what we believed to be a good fit for us.
After several months of searching, we decided to stop into the Nelson SPCA. The staff was friendly and welcoming the minute that we walked in the door, asking us questions to try to help meet our needs. Walking around with them for a while, we saw Teddy, a 9 week old kitten. He climbed into our arms and came home with us soon after. Several months later we came back, adopting one year old September to bring him home a sister.
Throughout both adoption processes the staff was beyond helpful, answering all of our questions, starting us out with food, carriers, toys and everything we needed. For Teddy, the neutering process and shots were all included in the adoption fee with a dropoff/pickup process making it very easy to navigate.
Having shopped around for some time, the treatment from the staff, price of the adoption fee and what was included in that is unparalleled to the experience we had at other shelters and rescues.
The best $200 I've ever spent came from this place and I hope that if you took the time to read this, you'll stop in here like we did.
Thank you to everyone at Nelson for helping me to carry out a dream that I held onto for years.
