Musician Craig Dodson had the crowd in the palm of his hand. The whole experience makes you want to move to Scottsville. Already looking forward to a return visit.

After the tasting, Kyle took great care of us getting us our wine order, answering our questions, and filling the afternoon with great conversation. Lovely place!!!!!

Tavern on the James
280 Valley St, ScottsvilleIt was our first time eating here; we stopped for lunch on our way through the area The tavern is situated on a corner across from the historical landmark sign just on the west side of the bridge over the James.
There is plenty of parking in the parking area on the bridge side of the building, though on-street parking is also available.
We each ordered the double cheddar & bacon smashburger with fries, which was the daily special ($15 at the time of this review). It was served quickly, was presented nicely, and generously portioned.
My biggest disappointment is that a smashburger is supposed to be...smashed, so I was expecting...thin, yet juicy, and hanging over the sides of the bun by a lot. The burgers we got were more like the thickness of 2 regular burger. If you aren't a smashburger fan, you probably wouldn't understand the difference that makes in the flavor and eating experience.
The food itself was good. The burger was fresh and tasted like a higher grade of beef. It was served on a Kaiser bun that was a little harder than I like, but still tasted okay.
The fries were fresh, hot, and (thankfully) not loaded with salt. They had an excellent flavor.
The server was friendly.
The tavern had the original brick walls and pressed metal ceiling tiles that add so much character to buildings constructed at the turn of the century (1800s-1900s) time period. We asked our server about the history of the building, but she didn't have any information on it.
One major note I want to record is that the menu prices on the online ordering site that is linked to their listing by Google are NOT accurate. It listed their sandwiches as $6.99 each, which was obviously not right. Plan on spending between $15-$23 for a sandwich and fries, and more than that for an entree.
The restrooms were clean. In the bar side of the building, which was where they were seating at the time, there were a couple low tops, but mostly high top tables.
