In Golden Gears, I have found an excellent repair shop that focuses as much on maintenance as it does on executing repairs. This is critical because the repair shop I had been going to was strictly focused on repairs, but not on maintaining the vehicle. During my first visit to Golden Gears, they recommended replacing the brake fluid, something the previous repair shop never recommended. Finally, Golden Gears is scrupulously honest and only recommends repairs and maintenance that are essential. This is a trustworthy mechanic that doesn't run up the bill, and that is a rare quality in the auto repair business!”

“I went to Jiffy Lube for an oil change. This was actually my first time at a Jiffy Lube and I was unsure how it worked. I parked and waited at the counter to talk to someone and they told me how it worked. (If you're like me and didn't know, you just get in line at a drive-thru and they direct you to an open bay. Then, you tell them what you need and they do it while you wait inside the waiting area.) I didn't have to wait in line long before my car was seen. They offered quite a few complimentary and additional-cost services (I think they filled my windshield wiper fluid for free, which was cool.) The waiting room is clean, with magazines, a water machine, and a TV playing a looping video of car repair information. There were only about 7 to 10 seats (maybe less), and they filled up fast. I ended up giving my seat to a mother/kid and standing for about half of the time. I'm able-bodied, so it wasn't an issue, but I wished the space was larger with more seating. However, when they were done and I ended up paying, the cashier/mechanic got his manager, who took $15 off for me as a thank-you for giving up my chair. I thought that was really nice. I also had a coupon for another $10 or $15 off. (You can get the coupon online from their website.) Overall a good experience. I'll be back in 5000 to 7500 miles! 9/10.”

“I have to admit I live really close to AK Auto, but never took my car here (despite recommendations from 2 friends) because I always thought I could trust the dealership. Boy was I wrong!After my car started revving without accelerating at about 2000 RPMs, I knew there was something wrong and drove the car over the dealership. They told me I needed a remanufactured transmission, which they would be happy to put in for $8200. This didn't sound right to me since my car had only 75,000 miles on it and I always did all recommended maintenance on my car when I was supposed to, so I decided to get a second opinion.I had my car towed to AK Auto and asked Mr. Kim to take a look at it. He added transmission fluid to the car (at his own expense) to see if it would make a difference and it started running more smoothly so he knew that the problem was not the transmission was not the problem. He recommended that I get a transmission flush. I was hesitant since it was so different from the advice that the dealership gave me (I'd just gotten a transmission exchange at the dealership 4,000 miles ago, plus they said the transmission flush would make the problem worse). But I reluctantly agreed. The transmission flush made all the difference, and now the car runs like butter! From now on, I'll be taking my car to AK Auto!”

“I went to go get my state inspection and emissions test. They were really nice and they offer rental cars for you! Special shoutout to Gabriel for being very patient and kind throughout the whole process. My apartment needs a parking sticker for the garage so he was nice enough to even transfer that over to the rental temporarily. They update you with texts and calls throughout the whole process so you always know whats going on. I’ll be coming back for the next inspection and emissions!”
“The five stars is just to not ruin your rating.Okay, the staff were polite and nice to talk to. But their price is VERY VERY VERY high. I went to fix my prius which had ABS and Brake warning light and after a check up (which by the way you have to pay $160 whether you fix your car or not) they say that I need almost $4K to fix the ABS system. At the end of the day I end up with a bad news and paying $150 (they didnt have change and left the $10) for nothing. But, fortunately, I ended up fixing my car with less than $1K without paying any checkup fee. Therefore, as a friendly advice, I encourage you focus on the services you provide as much as the money you want to get paid. Im hoping you will take this as a constructive suggestion. “I took my car to River Road after another mechanic failed my state inspection saying I needed new brakes. That same mechanic (AMPM Auto in Bethesda) quoted me $1300 to repair the brakes. The GM dealer was $900, and River Road gave me an est. of $700 so I took it there. Danny at R.R. called me and said there was nothing wrong with my brakes and that he couldn't in good conscience charge me for a brake job I didn't need. I'll be back to RR in the future!
