“I switched to this gym earlier this year because my previous gym was shifting to more of a weightlifting emphasis, and I was interested in continuing to pursue CrossFit type functional training. They have been so accommodating! I do the open gym option and then I get the Mayhem training on top of it. But the classes I've attended are fantastic, with great, friendly coaches, wonderful facilities, and prompt responses to any email I send to them about questions that I have. I love this place! Additionally, they gave me immediate 24/7 access to the gym, whereas my previous gym would not, even after almost 10 years there!”

The coaching staff is incredibly knowledgeable and the others that train there made me feel like part of their community. Town was a highlight of my time in Tacoma, I will miss that place.”

“Joining Ascent has truly been one of the best things I have done in the past few years. This is a gym like no other I've ever been to. The environment is incredibly supportive, and the workouts are varied and challenging. Every class begins with a short stretch session where everyone introduces themselves with names, pronouns, and the answer to a fun little intro question. Most workouts have a warm-up, a main strength section, and then a "push" at the end which is generally a mix of cardio and strength. I have learned a ton of strength training moves I didn't know before, like deadlifts, bench press, cleans, and snatches. The coaches offer individualized attention and if there is ever a move that you don't want to do, they will offer alternatives. At the end of every class I feel strong and energized. The workouts vary depending on the day of the week, so I attend 3 nights a week and get a different workout each time. The gym space is beautiful - large front windows, a huge exposed brick wall, and the floor is a big soft mat (like the kind you would have at a rock climbing gym). Some workouts are more strength focused, and some are more cardio focused. They also have multi-week series where for instance if you attend every Tuesday night, you build up weight on a certain move and track your progress. The owner and coaches are all incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. I literally could not recommend this gym more highly! It is one of the best things about my life here in Tacoma. Run, do not walk, to sign up for Ascent!!!”

“This place is 5*. Great coaches and people. I go for the "crossfit" style HIIT workouts they have during the day. What I like about Tacoma Strength is they focus more on Olympic lifting with less of the weird "hand stand pushup" type crossfit exercises in their HIIT classes. The saturday class is the best.”

The coaches are top notch, well-verses and highly skilled at all movements - from barbell exercises to all the body weight training CF employs.RCF provides a clean gym with tons of equipment, it’s centrally located in Tacoma, and the environment is welcoming, open, and challenging.I’ve made a bunch of great friends here on my journey, and as a proud member of this gym I can’t recommend it enough. You may think the workouts are too challenging, but they’re scalable. We have members of all genders, sexual orientation, various ethnicities - we’re a diverse community!What I love most is the expertise of the coaches. They’re highly trained, and are patient and encouraging. When I started a year and 1/2 ago, I could barely lift a barbell. “I have been going to Taiso for almost four years now, and I cannot say enough positive things about this gym. Butch and Jennifer are encouraging and enthusiastic about the work they do--they're also both just really phenomenal people all around. It is a safe environment where you can come as you are, and you will quickly feel like you are a part of a big family. Many of the folks there have become my lifelong friends. Plus, the classes are amazing--you will definitely be challenged if you put the effort in, and it honestly feels like grown-up gym class (without the awkwardness). Cannot recommend Taiso enough.”

“I came to Crossfit GH nearly 10 years ago as an athlete without direction. It was my first year competing in the professional ranks as a Downhill Mountain biker and I was training like a total amateur. I reached out to David explaining my goals as an athlete and the sport-specific training needs that came with the rigors of Mountain Biking. “Head instructor, Tony, has black belts in multiple disciplines (including Judo an and Jiu Jitsu). He is very knowledgeable in marital arts, friendly, and actively competing at the highest level. Matwork is smaller school, where students receive direct and detailed instruction. The mats are high quality and always clean. Best BJJ school in the area for anyone looking to learn self-defense, train for competitions, or to get in shape.”
