Step through the door, and you’re no longer in Wisconsin... you’re somewhere between a haunted library, a Victorian curiosity cabinet, and a Poe poem brought to life.
The shelves whisper with oddities: books that seem to hum with forgotten stories, shirts stitched with delightful darkness (I took home one that read, “I myself am strange and unusual”), and relics that feel like they might just blink when you’re not looking.
And just when you think it can’t get any better—you discover the bar. Yes, there’s a bar in the back. Order a drink, and sip while the ravens watch from above. It’s the kind of place where you expect to hear a cryptic riddle from a stranger... and you hope you do.

18 6th Ave, New GlarusWhen my wife and I travel through Central Wisconsin, and have the time ,we avoid the Interstate and take the local state highways. That usually brings us to New Glarus. Being the "off season", the usual Swiss restaurants were not open early in the week. I had read about Puempedl's Tavern so we gave it a try. We weren't disappointed. The atmosphere is great. There were some local ladies playing a few hands of Euchre and everyone seemed friendly. The waitress came to our table as soon as we sat down and took our drink order. They have a nice selection of soups and sandwiches. We both chose the Beef Stew and it was perfect with a thick broth, large pieces of beef and fresh vegetables. My wife had a Pulled Pork sandwich and I had a Liverwust & Limburger Cheese sandwich, with raw onion on Marble Rye bread. The sandwiches were large enough, we only ate half to take half home, along with two orders of Beef Stew. We'll be back.
