Perfect example: I once went in for a simple oil change, and he noticed someone had stolen my registration sticker. Another time, we bought my aunt’s car that had been sitting for a while and the air conditioning didn’t work — Ken found a squirrel nest clogging the system! When my car has made strange noises, he always checks it out, reassures me when it’s nothing, and never charges me unnecessarily. He gently explains anything I don’t understand, never talks down to me, and always makes sure I leave feeling informed and taken care of.
This is exactly the kind of trustworthy, friendly, skilled auto repair shop everyone hopes to find. I’ve been coming to Ruppel’s for six years, and honestly, I don’t know what I’ll do if Ken ever retires. Thank goodness he’s alive and well in Burlingame.

I felt a lot of judgement and belittlement when I opted not to get the maintenance package, and further judgment when I told him I had taken previous vehicles to Big O Tires for service due to financial reasons and not wanting or being able to pay for service at a dealership.”
“3 hours before closing, on a random Thursday, made a call to inquire about exhaust pipe repair. The owner was friendly on the phone so I decided to drop by. Arrived 30 minutes later and was given a fair price and immediate service. This is the best exhaust shop around if you value honesty and integrity.”

“Super honest shop. I’ve been going for years and did not realize I had not provided a review. Just the other day - in the pouring rain - Andrew took my car in as my tire pressures registered 28/33/34/34. I suspected a nail and a slow leak. And I got a text two hours later saying the car is ready. Then I got another text saying it’s not, and they found another tire had a nail. So they really check over their work before releasing the car to the customer. That really provides me with a piece of mind and the type of service I would gladly come back to time and time again.”

“My car was starting to shake/vibrate and I knew I needed to get something fixed. I initially took my car to another mechanic who gave me a long list of proposed repairs including new tires with a big price tag. They said the main reason why my car was shaking/vibrating was because they thought I had a bent rim on one of my wheels. I told them it was too much and they submitted a 2nd service proposal within my budget but not including new tires. Because I was not yet comfortable accepting their service proposal just yet, I decided to get a 2nd opinion and chose Shaffer's. And I'm so glad I did! He immediately said the shaking and vibration (as well as the car veering off to the left) was all because my tires were too worn down and coming apart. He said I didn't have a bent rim - it was because an air pocket had formed between the tire and the metal part of the wheel, causing the tire to bulge and thus the shaking/vibration. Sure enough, after 4 new tires, the veering and shaking was solved the car drove smoothly again! By choosing Shaffer's I was able to get a correct diagnosis of the problem and it fixed for a reasonable price!”

“My 2013 Toyota Corolla suddenly had a check engine light on and the engine was shaking and I could tell something was wrong and was scared. Came the next morning here close to where my car was. I felt the whole process was great. Left my car at 7:30am and was told I would get a call back around 10am. Was called around 9:30am. They told me it was a misfired cylinder 2 and needed a new coil and 4 spark plugs. They told me I could also try to get 3 more coils because those were old too. I decided better to replace all because I want my car running well. When I came back at 5pm, they explained everything to me. Feel like they are fair and do a good job in what you expect when going to a mechanic.”
