“I dont typically do reviews, unless I get poor service or amazing service. This is a time I have to give a review, and if I could more than 5 stars, I would. I am super appreciative of this location. My first time here about a year ago I thought my driver head had an issue. Expecting to be told it did so I would buy a new one, the staff took time to inspect, get me on the monitor and ensured it was still good to go. Fast forward to needing a new set…I was fitted at a different location and did not feel confident with my purchase. I went to Escandido location to get a new driver and met James. He took time to work with Mr, explain the differences and pros and cons of various models, practically gave me a lesson on the simulator and made sure I was 100% confident in my choice. I then discussed my recent fitting and irons and he worked with me extensively trying different heads and shafts. James is the man! If you are looking for a great fitting, no pressure sales, and expert knowledge, I can’t recommend James enough at Golfmart Escandido.”

This place is my candy store. Straight up five stars, no discussion. Big 5 in downtown Escondido is one of those rare spots where you walk in “just to look” and walk out feeling like you upgraded your entire survival level. They’ve got everything — fishing gear, boats, hunting equipment, tactical tools, knives, sports gear — all the good stuff that makes you feel prepared for literally anything.
Now I’ll be honest — their BB gun selection this time was weak. That’s usually my favorite section, and I came in hoping to see some serious options, but it was pretty limited. Not the end of the world though, because the rest of the store absolutely delivered.
What saved the day? Their tactical and hunting section was on point. I found an incredible deal on a hunting crossbow — beautiful piece, solid, professional, and priced way better than expected. Couldn’t resist. Also picked up a couple of Smith & Wesson tactical knives — sharp, clean, and built like they mean business. Exactly the kind of gear you want to have.
The best part about Big 5 is the vibe — no nonsense, real gear, real deals. You’re not paying boutique prices for plastic junk. This is legit equipment at honest prices. Staff leaves you alone to browse but helps when needed — perfect balance.
Bottom line: if you’re into fishing, hunting, tactical gear, or just being ready for whatever life throws at you, this Big 5 location is a must-visit. I’ll be back soon — hopefully next time the BB gun section comes back stronger.
