The woman on the phone was very friendly, got all the relevant info and came in with a quote about $20 below several others I'd called. Since I would rather support a local small business and I didn't have to drive over the hill from the coast, this was an easy choice. I made an appointment for two days later, arrived early, and they got right on it. Not only did they have it done in under an hour, they came in $80 under the estimate. Great service at more than competitive pricing, and I got to stroll around HMB on a quiet morning. For those of you "over the hill", it would be worth coming here and making a coast day. “Is it weird to leave a 5-star review for a repair shop that didn't do any actual repairs? If so, too bad...I'm doing it anyway. Sal and his dad (I think) are honest, competent mechanics and I'd use them again in a heartbeat.A week or so ago, my 20-year-old Lexus RX developed sudden and serious transmission problems. Neither of my usual repair shops here in HMB do transmissions, but both of those shops recommended Coast Transmissions. We had it towed there, and their diagnosis was that it needed a full transmission replacement...$7K, on a car that's not worth more than about $5K. Their advice was to NOT do the job. Already a good sign--Sal was upfront about the situation even though it meant turning down a job.Better yet, once I decided to donate the car to charity, Sal was incredibly helpful in letting me leave the car there for a week and then working with the pick-up company, plus letting me know once it had been taken away.These guys are honest and easy to deal with. I recommend them with no hesitation.”

“I took my wife's Chevy Traverse in for some side panel damage. I was referred to Curley & Reds by AAA. The staff was great. Super helpful. They ordered all of the parts first and when everything came in, they asked me to bring the car in so that way it could save in rental car fees since my vehicle was still operational. They estimated 2 weeks worth of work but finished well before that. The Traverse looks a GREAT! They also vacuumed and washed the car and looks just like it did when we bought it. I had a great experience with this company and would love to do business with them again!!”

After I got my quote I was impressed to see that Paulo went above my expectations by showing me pictures of the issues with his iPhone and explained everything in laymen terms. And I could tell that he's passionate about what he does and loves helping people with their cars - it's not just a job or business for him.He also showed me that he had my best interest in mind by recommending only $600 worth of repairs as essential and told me that if he was me that he wouldn't do the other $1700 repair until much further into the future given my situation and goal of just doing the essentials which he didn't know before hand. And for context: the $1700 repair was for the main issue that I came in for and the other $600 was stuff that he found when checking on my car.Also he's a great communicator (via phone and text) and works significantly faster then other mechanics I've gone to in the past and he provides an invoice with a clear breakdown of exactly everything he's charging you for.While working on my car he even called me and mentioned that the back windshield wiper was bad (which I already knew but had totally forgotten about) and told me that he could do it for $20 while he was working on it and have it done by the end of the day and had the price already prepared so I was able to take care of the wipers which I had been meaning to do and was glad that he noticed it and called because now I have that taken care of for my cross country road trip!Finally when everything was done I went in to pickup the car, reviewed the invoice and paid. As I was swiping my card Paulo double checked the invoice and noticed that there was a mistake on one of the prices for a part and brought it to my attention just after I paid the amount that I thought was fine. He immediately refunded the difference and apologized for the mistake which I didn't even notice being someone who doesn't know a lot about cars. Some might think that maybe someone might do that on purpose but knowing Paulo from my local church I could tell that it was an honest mistake and that he was being genuine.And after all that I tried giving him a cash tip for his great service and honesty and he graciously declined saying that he loves what he does and enjoys helping people. And as a college student I actually really appreciated that because I ended up spending significantly less then I thought I would overall!Thank you Paulo! I will be coming back to you for all my auto repair needs!”
