βAce is the place with helpful hardware folks! But seriously though, this store always has a variety of employees with knowledge to help you find what you need and have practical advice to stop you from buying what you donβt.
The store has everything you could possibly ever need in and outside of the house. Youβll find every tool and supply to complete those DIY projects and home maintenance. You can also pick up a new grill and replace your string of lights for the holidays.
Itβs also right next to the garden center which has a fantastic selection year round and has equally amazing employees. Super helpful!

βGreat place to pick up Benjamin Moore paints. I order online and pick it up to avoid wait times (which arenβt that long but I always end up leaving with things I didnβt intend on buying ?). Great customer service and they do occasional sales! Grateful this is my neighborhood hardware store.β

But no matter what I need, I aways take the time and make the effort to patronize this place.
Brian is the man who has impressed me with his down home demeanor and helpful approach to treating customers. But, everyone I've met at this store are helpful and knowledgeable.
And if you have some time on your hands even the customers can be fun to engage with. I've had some customers ask me if I worked there!

βNeeded some applewood pellets for my smoker. I called, they told me they stored the pellets away for the season but happy to check to see if they had the applewood. They did and brought up a bag from storage and had it at the counter for me when I came to pick it up. Needed it because I'm making homemade baconβ
βI made 3 keys at Home Depot, but donβt work. Cole hardware stuff found it issue, and made a key works.The original key is little bent , they can help made a copy key even the original is bent !β
βI appreciate this place :). OSH is old school and much more pleasant experience than other big hardware stores. They have all the basic. More specialized things might call for other stores but this is my go-to whenever possible.
Finding someone to help isn't always the easiest but it's likely because they are helping someone else.
I always get great support and friendly people.
Philip Rogers was working temporarily at the Ashby store from his normal Moraga location... And he was awesome. We tracked down exactly what I needed and had a great conversation to top it off about the history of sound recording for movies and music in Emeryville/Berkeley and some of the trailblazers in the area (which he is one of).

βLast week, I purchased a pizza slicer from another store, but it broke when I attempted to use it. I came to Laurel Ace to get a replacement because I know that its products are sturdy.
Marcos, the associate who assisted me, not only directed me to the proper aisle, but, to my surprise and gratification, TESTED the slicer to make sure that it would hold up! As if this wasn't enough, I also told me that I could bring it back if I had any problems.
I ALWAYS get great service at my neighborhood Ace, but young Marcos is among the BEST associates who I've ever been blessed to deal with. You can NEVER lose by going to Laurel Ace, particularly if he assists you.β
βUnexpectedly broad inventory of products and great selection within categories they carry. They have everything a handyman needs at a competitive price with far less chaos than lowes/home depot.β

βThere's a SOLID reason why this place has 5 stars, & I'm happy to add one more! Today, Richard at the front was incredibly attentive and helpful. He went way above and beyond! After going to 3 other stores to try and find what I needed, each of which had terrible customer service where the employees didn't give a $hit, I was stoked to find that this place had someone who actually cared. In fact, it took more than a couple tries to find exactly what I needed, & Richard was more than willing to help. To the owners: thanks for being here, having such a huge inventory, & for hiring people who treat your customers with respect! I will definitely be back!! To my fellow Yelp'ers: THIS should be your first stop. Forget big box names & go here. You'll not only be supporting a local business, you'll save yourself some stress!!! *They have a $15 minimum - so keep that in mind.β

βMultiple sizes of o rings saved me a lot of time and money - an easy fix for a leak in a Hans Grohe pull down kitchen faucet that just needed a new o-ring ! The best $3 I've ever spent.β
βSmall hardware store but very complete. With less variety of products due to the size of the store, but you can find everything.
The staff was extremely friendly, they helped me find what I needed and gave me good product recommendations.β

I have come here to find pieces of lumber. They are great at cutting lumber to the requested measurements.
The workers are always polite and helpful when it comes to pointing you in the right direction. There is commercial parking right in the front for easy loading. They also have a warehouse right across the street which contains more lumber.
Great location and a helpful place to go to if you are in the city.β
