“I shouldn't be so cheap and unappreciative I got the coolest carnival celebration stamps with fireworks on them. I never have to wait long at this post office and it's right next to the Ashy BART station! The exterior is kind of unusual which is probably why it's getting 3 stars on average. It's a good post office. Don't listen to the other reviews.
Even the downtown Oakland Post Office has run out of money order forms, on occasion. They're not a bank cheapskate, they shouldn't be required to handle large sums. I've seen some people get money orders for thousands at some Post Offices. It's old school *not* dingy.”

“My husband and I just received such high quality service it honestly amounted to concierge level service from Ali who processed our expired passport renewal. We arrived without an appointment (you can make an appointment but they will try to serve you if they can even without an appointment,) Ali took our photos, processed the forms and in ten minutes at most, we were all set and out the door. Best of all was Ali’s professionalism and friendly attitude.
UPDATE: On the above review and an added exceptional experience. We applied for our US Passport renewals with Ali at Alamo USPS on July 15, 2025. We received our new Passports Aug 13 and 15, 2025. Great service time.
On Aug 15, 2025, I took my 95 year old aunt in for passport renewal of her expired passport. Ali helped us. His patience and professionalism were superb. Great staff at Alamo, USPS office.”
“Ruth was very kind and helpful here! She's an excellent employee. She saved me $50 today by finding a spare box in the back so that I didn't have to use the XL size they had in stock. The XL would have cost $74 (and was too big for the stuff I had to ship), but the box she found only cost me $24 to ship. Thank you Ruth!”

“This Post Office is located in the San Leandro Plaza and is open on Saturdays!!When I do have to mail a package, this is where I go!! The main reasons for that is that they usually have multiple windows open and they are open on Saturdays, the only day that I really have time for this. Now, sometimes on said Saturdays there's a long line here, but it moves along decently.The postal workers here are friendly and polite also!!”

“I never thought I would give a USPS location a high rating, 'til I came to this one. They're so friendly and helpful. I was trying to mail a couple of packages and surprised by the cost going to the other coast. I didn't even say anything but the lady there was so nice asked what it was and offered me cheaper mailing options. She even gave me the supplies to repack my packages. And I saw them even offer tape to help someone seal their package better. Can I just say Wow, that's so nice! Usually you get someone very moody behind the counter at other locations that would tell you to buy your own tape. This location is a USPS gem.”

“I love this post office. The sistah that works in the far corner is so incredibly helpful and proficient at her job. She is so on it, that I usually leave feeling better than I walked in because she makes the experience so pleasant and clear. If it weren't for parking I would use this post office exclusively. I will say that the USPS should update the equipment. Some of the machines seem like they haven't been updated since before Regan was president.”
“My recent visit to the US Postal Service for a change of address was a mixed experience. The process itself was fairly simple and efficient, which was a relief. However, my observation with the Customer Service left me with conflicting feelings.
On the one hand, the representatives were undeniably friendly and welcomed each customer but on the other hand, I couldn't shake off a disconcerting incident I witnessed. While waiting in line, I overheard a customer, whose native language wasn't English, seeking assistance regarding fragile items. The customer selected yes, when they should’ve selected no on the keyboard. Unfortunately, they were advised by the representative to bring their own interpreter if they couldn't communicate effectively in English. This struck me as somewhat insensitive and disappointing.
While I understand the practical challenges faced by the establishment, it's crucial for them to offer language services to accommodate diverse customers. Expecting individuals to bring their own interpreters seems impractical and burdensome. The availability of toll-free numbers for language assistance should be actively promoted and utilized to ensure equal access to services and although this would require additional steps, it’s something all establishments should do.
Overall, the US Postal Service seems to strive for kindness, friendliness, and professionalism, but there's room for improvement in addressing language barriers and ensuring inclusivity.
On a positive note: I really enjoyed their large selection of greeting cards and the person who helped me was supper kind in explaining the process of changing my home addresses ?”
“I came in very frazzled after a long work day right near closing time (I do not recommend doing that, always come way earlier), but Shannon was so incredibly kind — she walked me through the process and was so helpful even when I was fumbling with my wallet and keys. Honestly made my day - thank you!!!”
“You all are crazy! This post office rules! I have shipped many packages through here and have received great service including tips on packaging and insurance. I also live across the street from this location and likely have my mail delivered though then to which I too tip my hat. I've done thousands of dollars in business through this location, always with quick service and smiling help. 5 stars!”
“Outstanding service. Went for my 5 year old passport appointment with all the relevant paperwork and pictures. Reached couple minutes earlier than anticipated. The team was very kind, friendly and accommodating. They took us in early checked everything and we were out in less than 10 mins. Would highly recommend this location. “Great , reliable service, the workers seem passionate, the location is in great condition, the have seasonal stamps, rare stamps, and everyone who works there REALLY seems to be so helpful. Had so troubles with mail delivery, so asked a question and although they sent me to the main office, the lady working ( I didn't catch her name, she has long braids) was truly so helpful, she gave me a 800 number, said call this #, to figure what was going on!

LAST TIME I WENT THERE THE LADY WORKING WAS A LITTLE STRESSED OUT WASNT REALLY ABLE TO EXPLAIN WHY OR WHAT WAS GOING ON, SO JUST TOLD ME TO CALL THE 800 NUMBER.”
“Passports! I had to get passport renewals for minors, and that can only be done in person. It was impossible to get an appointment anywhere, but they do walk-in passport applications here!!!
Here is what I learned and my pro tips:
-walk-in appointments MWF 9-10am ONLY
-They only take the first 20 people… (I don’t know if that’s actually just the first 20 passport, but I don’t think it’s groups)
-If you’re number 21, you’re gonna have to come back another day
-If you wanna make sure you are in that first 20, you need to get your rear end there *** early*** (the line was about 30 people along by 8:30 AM today)
-don’t think that you can show up at 9 AM and be fine, at least not at this time of year
-Come with everything already completed
-Use black ink only
-Better yet fill out your application online and print it out
-Don’t worry about passport pictures, they take them there and charge $15
-They take check or debit card for passports. No credit cards.
-They’re strict and very busy, so bring your patience, be polite and be humble to their process
-if you are eligible to renew by mail, just do it and save yourself the hassle

“The bad reviews worried me but at least in my experience today it was totally fine. Rang the doorbell, lady came out quickly, I explained my issue with my package not being delivered to my home, she found it and gave it to me. Easy as that.”

It was such a joy to watch her work, I didn't mind rejoining the queue when I was done putting my packages together.
If every business had a Kwana (I hope I spelled her name right?), this world would be a much better place!”
“Close to work and not too busy. I like to use their machine for self-checkout for mailing packages. Then I stop next door at Contra Costa Coffee for gelato or coffee.”
