You walk in and they are friendly and helpful, do a full scan, run test, sole test, etc all free of charge, let you try on whatever you want with expert guidance, and are super helpful on finding products without being pushy.One saleswoman, Genesis, was particularly amazing. I needed new road-running shoes, and she took me through all the tests, was unbelievably friendly and professional, suggested the shoes I would need and what might be better or worse for me, and pointed out various things about my running style, feet, etc. All super fast and super fun. She then helped me try on all the different shoes she suggested (she can carry five+ boxes at once... wow), and was just the right amount of helpful, stepping away when I needed time to try them out, and coming back (almost psychically) when I wanted advice or had questions. I ended up getting shoes and soles and would easily pay more than what I did for them. I even bought the store membership (I never do this) because of how clearly Genesis made it out to be helpful to me.Overall, wonderful store with a great philosophy, and absolutely one of the best salespeople I've talked to (Genesis). I went on a run afterwards with my new shoes and my half-marathon time went down by a staggering 40 minutes from 2:36 to 1:58.”

She spent time looking for my receipt and helped me with a refund because they hurt. I ended up with a new pair and was very satisfied. Jessica is so knowledgeable, personable, helpful and patient. She is also bilingual. Her friendly and kind personality makes it very easy to work with. I'm am very I decisive so it takes me a long time to decide on a shoe. Jessica lets me ponder and checks back with me. She's great at suggesting and is not pushy. There was another gentleman who was also very helpful but I'm so sorry I did not get his name.”

“Mark is awesome! Best customer service! I bought a pair of Hoka, Mark helped me tried couple of sizes at the store and settled down on one. But when I wear it outside for few times, I found it is too big. I called Mark and Mark just said brought it back we will take care of you. “10/29/23I returned to order the petite jeans. This time the POS system was working. Teresa was very polite and helpful in getting my jeans ordered and expedited to me. I asked for the name of yesterday's cashier because I'd like to acknowledge her. She was very polite and patient while I tried to get my credit card problem resolved. Her name, I believe is Raji.. thank you all at Madewell 10/28/23Today I went shopping for jeans. I've worn Madewell jeans for quite a few years now so I stopped in there to see if I could find a replacement pair of jeans. I found that the style I currently have do not fit the same way as before so I tried on a new style, Vintage in dark wash. Hummm I liked them but since I'm short, the salesperson, Christina, suggested I try the petite version of the jeans.I decided to go ahead and purchase the ones they had in the store and order the petite version. When it came time to process the purchases, my credit card kept getting declined. I called my credit card company and they assured me that the card was working. It still would not process...the cashier there was very kind and patient, which I very much appreciated. She tried and tried and even moved the sale to a different register. Nothing worked.Brian, one of the managers came over to see what was happening and took the time to assist me in determining what the problem was. I am very appreciative of his professionalism and patience as we continued to try to get my card to work. It turned out that the simple purchase transaction went fine, but there was a problem with the on-line order where my card address was different from the ship to address. Brian hung in there with me trying everything and never showed any impatience.I am very impressed with the level of customer service and patience I experienced today...It was not a huge sale, just a pair of jeans.Thank you Madewell for the excellent customer service. I will go back another day to see if the problem has been resolved so I can order another pair of jeans..”

“I worked at Steven's Creek Surplus as assistant manager in my early 20's in the late 1990's. I read the reviews on here about store security watching people and I know it's annoying. But do you see what is happening everywhere? How are you going to call out a super rare, successful small business, for security these days? The truth is, people get offended. It's embarrassing to be watched. You think to yourself...me? Really? Let it go. They don't know you're an upstanding citizen. If you want them to, then talk with them. Let them get to know who you are. Don't have time for that huh? Yeah, I didn't think so. Now let's talk returns. Why do you think Costco can take back anything people want to return, after it doesn't even matter how long? That's because Costco is huge and they can make the manufacturer reimburse them. Do you think an independent surplus store has that kind of muscle? Please get real. If they take a return that they cannot sell, they eat it. The truth is...this store has been run the right way for a very long time. They have always worked to be up front with people. The policies are there right at the counter. They might not always have the best price on something, but their profit margin has always been fair. If someone has something cheaper, it's because of their buying power and lower cost. Most of the surplus stores are long gone. Steven's Creek Surplus is a survivor. I can still get lost in there forever just checking out all of their neat stuff. They are a rare gem in a world of lab diamonds. Don't break them down for petty stuff. Build them up for being pretty much the only surviving business with character and history on all of Steven's Creek Boulevard...in all of San Jose for that matter.”

“Wonderful children's shoe store! The people who work here are so nice to the kids who come in. This is the BEST store for babies, toddlers and young kids. Yes, the price is a little more expensive but that's probably because Palo Alto is very expensive. But also...the people here carefully measure your kids' feet and talk through the different types of shoes and fits. Also - one of my kids has a leg issue and the doctor prescribed special shoes for him. Howard's immediately helped. My son's doctor said this is the store they recommend for any kids who need any corrective shoes. I read some of the negative reviews below and those comments are silly. I'm sorry, one guy said he was disappointed because he brought his mother into the store? It's a children's shoe store, bro. Also, I'm not sure about the refund issue but my guess...: a. Kids wear shoes without socks often, b. Kids (including mine) are often pretty gross.”
