“I have never been so pleasantly surprised in my life. The hotel staff really go above and beyond here! The shuttle driver picked us up minutes after we called, took my bags, gave me info on the hotel restaurant & was extremely personable and competent. The hotel checkin staff was great, the bartender was great, the food was good and reasonably priced (for a hotel).

The shuttle driver in the morning reminded me to get free breakfast before hopping in their “Uber Black” minivan shuttle.

Amazing stay, amazing service, and I’ll only be staying here from now on when I fly into OAK.

Edit: It appears that the shuttle to the airport is $10 now, which is why I changed my review to 4 stars instead of 5. I also had a hard time getting to sleep this time because the smoke detector has a green strobe light that is pretty bright & it was flashing randomly.”

The view was beautiful, and the staff were all very kind and helpful. A special thank you to David, the manager—he went above and beyond to assist me. Great experience overall”

“I initially was underwhelmed with this property. I have to bw honest and say the staff came through for me. I learned of the death of a cousin, Tania consoled me with so much compassion. I am beyond grateful. The lady at check in was pleasant. I would stay here again.

Rooms: Rooms are so clean and spacious.”

“Rooms were simple, clean and well cared for, though nothing like a modern renovated motel or hotel. The parking area and walkways to the rooms, even though they are trying with the abundance of plastic colorful flowers in the planters, are kind of bleak. Extremely close to Kaiser Hospital.”

“Legit the best staff of any hotel ive ever been to. Caring staff that made us feel like family. Very very very informed staff and clean rooms. Check in and checkout was so smooth. Shout out to Kenya she's the LeBron James of hotel workers.”

“Home away from home. One of oaklands last artists, pirate, land of broken toy communities. We have fought hard against developers taking our community and making condos. Thanks to Silviera's properties and Robert Shultz and many tenants who have made this neighborhood what it is. Much respect”

“Best kept secret for a safe, quality and affordable room in Oakland! I have stayed here at least a half dozen times over the past few years and have always enjoyed this place. This visit I experienced exceptional service from Emoni at the front desk - very peasant and professional young lady. Great room this time too … attached photos of the serene view from my balcony.”

“Wonderful hotel with great staff. A very short (about one to two minute) walk to ferry which takes you to the Ferry Station on Embarcadero in SFRooms: Beautiful, quiet, bedbug coverings on mattresses to ensure no bugs”

“a basic, well located, no frills motel. room was clean and smoke free. water pressure in the shower was a little low, but if that's the worst thing I can say, then I'd call it a win. Neighborhood is a little sketchy, but there's an awesome bar right around the corner and it was walking distance to the Amtrak station. Staff at check in and check out were very friendly and helpful.
Did end up with a double rather than a twin, but didn't care enough to switch, was only in it for a few hours after spending longer at that bar than intended!”

“Location is wild but the hotel is immaculate and nicely renovated. Parking is ample. Hotelier is kind and friendly. He runs his hotel well and obviously takes pride in his work. My wife have stayed here multiple times and it is always a joy to stay here”

“I had the opportunity to stay here through a program the VA referred me too in order to get have temporary housing while we explore other options. The motel is run by what appears to be a family. They all work together, each taking different shifts in order to better assist their guests 24/7. They were always on top of whatever there was facing them that day. I ended up staying here just under 60 days and it went by in the blink of an eye. The property has amazing views of the hills that overlook Oakland and SF. You can even look at the Temple located on Temple Hill. At night the views are amazing.
The area is peaceful. This part of MacArthur Blvd is nice. I’ve walked around to local stores and laundry facilities and have had no issues. It’s a quiet, simple place that you can lay your head down and enjoy yourself. My room was great sized and modern. The shower had great hot water and amazing pressure. I always had clean towels too- something I always find of importance. The bed was comfortable and the tv always worked.
The owners employ a young couple who are fairly new parents. They are worth every penny the owners pay them as they take care of everything down to the smallest detail. The gentleman always greeted me with a smile. His wife also acknowledged me daily with a smile.
For some reason, I am finding it difficult to leave here. I’ve felt apart of their family. If I ever need a place to stay or can refer anyone to a hotel- I will always say the Highlander Motel.”

“At the rate paid for the room was awesome. A glass walk-in shower with sliding doors, and a body mirror in the bathroom was awesome. Clean wrapped 6 ounce gargling cups or beverage cups. The bathroom was clean with clean towels, hand towels, and face towels. The bedding was comfortable, I could not get up. The television worked and the sockets in the wall to recharge electric appliances. Most of all, I like the studying desk. For under a hundred dollars a night, I consider it fare market value....”

“Dont expect to much but if you are in a budget this would be considered. No problem with the location, it is surrounded by foodies restaurant. What i dont like here is that one (1) hour before the check out, they will knock at your door informing you about the check out time. Staffs are not good and not bad.”

“Overall was a great experience. The rooms are a little old and run down, but the bed was super comfortable. Not exactly the best of neighborhoods, but was very comfortable. No bugs or creepy crawlies whatsoever. My number 1 thing was as a male cross dresser, I not once had a problem whatsoever from the stuff or others staying at the property. Thet still made me feel very welcome. The stuff was nothing but kind. Even when I continuously locked my key card in the room, lol. Next time I'm in oakland I will come back.”

“This is no longer a hotel. It's now the new location of Eddie's Place. A place where medically fragile people discharged from the hospital and are unhoused can come here to recuperate in a safe place among caring and professional nurses and care givers.”

“The room was really nice, it's right off the highway so it was easy to find. However, it was NOT in the best part of town. There's a lot of scary signage about not being responsible for my vehicle is stolen and how the building contains chemicals that may cause cancer. I was only there for a night and used my digital key, so I did not come in contact with any employees during my stay.”

“I stayed here for three nights and found it to be a convenient location if you're arriving at OAK Airport. I was able to take two buses to reach the hotel easily. The staff were very supportive.”

“We stayed at the Jack London Inn for 3 nights during our road trip and everything was very good for the price that we paid. The staff was very nice and always available for questions and requests. Breakfast was very good, again for the price we paid for staying there. The location is very central to the ferry that will take you to SF. Many thanks!”

“February 1, 2025

As a youth, I remember witnessing many weddings. As a matter of fact, it is a wedding every weekend in my African American neighborhood in the 1970s. But, things or societies change for many reasons. We, THE OBSERVERS, plan not to blame last minute thinking or to witness the free state of California to transfer to a MILITARY STATE. What really happened? 60s, 70s, & 80s generations don't know. A THEME: COME TOGETHER TO EXIST WHY STAND ALONE FOR MANKIND NOT TO EXIST. True? Or, false? KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK! It's the Oakland Community.

Thank you,

Marcus Pea”

“After reading recent reviews I was pleasantly surprised. The Ac works, I think some idiots on the reviews don’t know how to turn it on ? the rooms are clean and don’t smell like smoke. No roaches. I haven’t seen a single homeless person so not that rough of an area. Berkeley had tons of crack heads around my hotel there. Not the case. Close to the ballpark and airport. Save over $100 staying here.”
