“I’ve been here now four times and Matt is, by far, the greatest associate I’ve had the pleasure of dealing with at any storefront in a long time. There’s never any pressure to purchase (although I’ve bought three of my four visits), he’s extremely knowledgeable, friendly and willing to shoot the shit. I love visiting Dainese over cycle gear because the employees are always well versed on the specific brand products (fit, features, performance etc). San Francisco is so lucky to have this gem of a store, and Dainese - pretty please - make sure you take care of Matt.”

I cannot recommend San Francisco Archery Shop enough! Special shout out to Eric and Nicholas. We took two teenagers here for their very first introduction to archery, and the experience was absolutely phenomenal.
From the moment we walked in, the staff was welcoming, patient, and incredibly knowledgeable. Archery can be intimidating for beginners, but the instructors broke down the fundamentals of form, safety, and technique in a way that was engaging and easy for the teens to understand. They didn’t just hand over the equipment; they truly focused on the **education and sport** of archery.
By the end of the session, both teens had gained so much confidence and a genuine appreciation for the sport. If you are looking for a top-tier educational experience or wanting to introduce your kids to archery, this is absolutely the place to go in California. We will definitely be back!”
“Great place for stringing and demoing racquets! We recently bought a ball machine but before that, our friend group used to regularly rent the Proton ball machine here for a flat $35 for the day, bring it to a nearby public court, and take turns until the battery ran out (~3hrs), which ends up being a super good deal”
“I had a great experience with Joe at Sports Basement last week and wanted to recognize him for going above and beyond.
I originally came in to return some items, but while browsing I started looking at hydration reservoirs and had a number of product-specific questions. My friend and I weren’t very familiar with the differences between the options, so we were trying to understand which would best fit our needs.
I first asked an employee nearby, who said he wasn’t sure and would find someone more knowledgeable. A few minutes later another employee came over, but when I explained my question, he shrugged and said he didn’t really know, suggested it was probably a simple labeling or product difference, and then kept walking without engaging further. I continued browsing and chatting with my friend about it.
A little while later, Joe overheard our conversation and went out of his way to come over and ask if he could help. What stood out to me was that he didn’t pretend to know the answer or give his best guess. Instead, he was honest that he wasn’t sure, but showed genuine interest in helping figure it out. My friend and I had quite a few product-specific questions, and Joe listened patiently to each one and gave very thoughtful, in-depth responses. He took the time to really understand what we were looking for and helped walk us through the differences in a way that was clear and helpful.
To me, that’s what great customer service looks like. Nobody can know everything, especially in a store with such a wide variety of products. What matters is being willing to help, being honest when you don’t know something, and making customers feel heard. Joe did exactly that.
I really appreciated his friendliness, patience, and willingness to go the extra mile. Employees like Joe are a big part of what makes Sports Basement such a positive place to shop.”

He did whatever he could to find the best fit for my personal running habits and walking me through the different options, as well as letting me try jogging in each one. “We drove in from the east bay and combined it with a great Dim Sum lunch! We made an appointment via email to find a time that worked- it took about an hour to get my son fitted, blade tuned up and new one put together. Cole is an amazing one man show, who is knowledgeable, engaging and a fantastic help with fitting for gear AND he is a first class armorer. He has a lot of inventory and good selection. I would completely recommend going here to get gear, and to get your weapon reviewed, tuned up or a new one.”

“Decided to take the plunge (well many plunges) and learn to wing foil. Matt was an awesome instructor for my first lesson. I was hooked. The next day, I met with Jane to buy gear. She was very patient ( as I barely knew which end was up ) and made recommendations for an appropriate board and wing for my size. Again, she remained very patient as she walked me through the set up and inflation process. We were rewarded at the end of our session with a beautiful onshore wind and we were both able to get out on the water. (Well, I was more in than on). There is nothing that can compare to the personal service provided by Boardsports California. As I progress, and my equipment needs change, I will be consulting with Boardsports (by phone , chat or Zoom) since I’m not local to the Bay Area) . They are experts on the water and experts in passing their knowledge to their customers.”

“I cannot say better words about this place. I’ve been shopping at this store since 2009 and I’ve never been disappointed. I try to go there every time I’m in the City. The guys are fantastic, super nice and personable. I live in the Midwest so I’m only in the City once every few years but it’s a must on my list. Was in the City this past weekend for my bday. Was shopping there and was talking with the owner’s son? He was super nice and offered to find my shirt size off the rack hanging from the wall. I had no problem looking for my size myself but he insisted. I mentioned that I like to frequent the store when I’m in town and how I lived in the neighborhood several years ago. That started a conversation about how the neighborhood was then and how it is today. I also told him about some shirts I had bought in the past and he knew the ones I was speaking of. I had some questions about pricing and he was very helpful. Set me up with the tshirts I was wanting to purchase and even threw in a free sticker! I love this store!! I’ve been disappointed with this store and its employees.”

“This Athleta is beautifully organized and eye catching on entrance. The staff is warm and super knowledgeable. They work together to get answers and recommendations. One person stands out from all, though. Maria is clearly in total leadership mode. She makes the moves to execute efficiently. She thinks independently for solutions. I had one garment that was not available here, but at the Embarcadero Store. We bought it through them and they’re shipping it to my home. Now, you may be saying, what’s the big deal? Well, Athleta online never sent the garment. This combined with getting to this other location would be more time consuming and make me say ciao to buying from Athleta. Maria recognizes and fosters the fine art of the customer relationship. I can say first-hand that this hasn’t happened in a few other stores that I no longer support. Another thing: Naria is authentically warm and has hi ‘em esteem for her profession. Someone at the lead like that influences the vibe of the rest of the team. It’s clear Maria is a 20 on a 10 scale. Hope Athleta rewards her for such universal loyalty. I’ll be back at the Fillmore Store for sure!”

“I came here to try out a bike after researching online for the best options that fit me. This was especially significant to me as my first-ever bike purchase. Despite coming in a little late, Eric (sp?) helped me out with the bike fitting, and I was pleasantly surprised when the store had one remaining bicycle in inventory, which Eric helped to prepare by installing the lights and U-lock and checking to make sure it was in suitable condition for me to ride home. Thank you for going above and beyond! Can’t wait to come back to this store to buy more accessories.”
