“I am a fan of all the Sports Basement stores but the Byrant Street Location is the best for customer service and especially for their bike service!!! Many times I have gone to the team and they have been able to help me with a smile and with tough situations. I have a Van Moof bike and they are not easy to service because of their unique items. Yet the team of bike technicians always finds a way to help me. Janelle is very patient and helpful and knowledgeable. Jason has done some incredible work very quickly at a great value too. And Josh and Brad are so helpful as well. Brad is always friendly with great suggestions and it's nice he acknowledges you as a repeat customer! I'm blown away by their skills and their positive & friendly demeanor. The associates in the entire store are also helpful. "Dee" for example carried my bike, not once but twice. I'm in the hospitality industry and wish I had employees like these to help us with our guest service! Well done team and THANK YOU!”

“Love Sports Basement! I took my bike in on New Years day after a ride, where my gears/ shifters were giving me trouble. A Bike tech named Louis took me right away and quickly discovered that I had a loose cable and several parts that desperately needed lubrication. He worked fast and let me watch and learn, wished me happy new year and I was on my way again in minutes! Bike was in so much better shape afterwards. I felt safer and gearshifting has now been a breeze. Thanks Louis you’re the best!”

“I had a complicated double overcharge issue AND the credit card used to make the contested purchase had been hacked. Even so, I got a very quick resolution to my problem - a refund with no argument. It helped that I brought all pertinent receipts, as well as both the original credit card, its replacement and a copy of the credit card statement showing the overcharges. Both the documentation and an intelligent staff member willing to be helpful were key to happy results.”

“Have now bought cleats here twice, and had a great experience both times. After screwing myself over ordering new cleats online and them not fitting me at all (side note, why are companies making it harder to put on cleats? And why are they trying in so many ways to get rid of laces? Laces work, y'all!) I have officially decided to only buy cleats in store unless I am replacing a pair with the exact same pair. Elite mostly seems to have Adidas and Nike (or at least that's all I recognized there); good selection of all sorts of sizing and they include cleats for both grass and turf. Both times, the guy working there during the day has been really helpful and patient with pulling shoes out of the back for me to try on. Even gave me a soccer ball to experiment kicking around. (Did not take him up on this - I play ultimate frisbee, but was too embarrassed to say so.)Yes, prices might be a little bit more expensive, but I think that is an okay premium to pay for an independent store and great service. Will be back after this next pair goes kaput!”

“I must say at first I wasn't even ready for this experience or this store, but instead of just passing by and not giving it chance I decided to drop in and see what would transpire. To my surprise it was a very clean store and seemed to have a very inviting aura. I have since been coming to this store and am now a regular. I am very pleased for the most part with the respect and customer service I receive while shopping here. The new store manager Corey is a very special person who is what a manager should be. I see him working hard and providing the best customer service at all times. I know how hard and how frustrating it can be to have your own store and be a new manager. You have to build a strong team, have such patience, extraordinary customer service skills, have the ability to except constructive criticism, deal with irate and extremely rude customers, and separate the outside world life experiences from your work. It's quite the beast to take on. Corey is a young, bright, talented, hard working, down to earth, humble and just amazing manager, employee and general person. He has made my experiences here at this store worth being a regular customer, and has a great sense of leadership over his team, who are for the most part awesome too. I have been a customer of this company for many years and will continue to be as long as I receive the respect and customer service I have throughout these years. I just want to salute the company, and Corey, as well as the employees who provide excellent customer service and go above and beyond, just want to say from a customer's point of view you are much appreciated. “I can't say enough great things about my experience with Boardsports California. They're just great people, who know what they're doing, are incredibly helpful and are committed to getting more people into the sport.I took three 2h kitesurfing lessons (Noa and Fred were great instructors). Their focus on safety and fundamentals meant that I was independent with just those three lessons. Note: Not yet fully riding, but capable of safely practicing independently thereafter.When Jesse heard that my lessons went well, he recommended I buy gear sooner rather than later, so I could spend more time practicing in the water, and spend less money towards lessons. He worked with me to understand my budget, and the next day emailed me his gear recommendations. When I had some questions about the difference between that gear and other options I was considering, Rebecca (one of the owners at Boardsports) sent me an incredibly detailed email explaining the difference and her guidance. It's also worth noting that she didn't try to push their gear except where it really mattered, like choosing a board that could handle the bay area chop well, or coming into the store to try different harnesses to find one that truly fits my back well. While I was buying gear, Jane was kind enough to give me pointers on her tips for how to check the wind forecast.It's thanks to their approach and guidance that I was able to practice shortly after my lessons, and start riding confidently within a few more days practicing in the water.When I needed to buy a second kite to ride in stronger winds, Rebecca was once again super responsive and accommodating for an expedited pick-up. When I had an issue with my bar (which turned out to be my own error), they suggested I come into the shop to have it sorted out.If you really want to get into kitesurfing, have the commitment and a realistic expectation of what it takes (lessons, gear), I highly recommend checking out Boardsports California.”

“I needed short zippers installed in my wetsuit and all my calls to SF surf shops said "have to go to Santa Cruz or Monterrey". WHAT? This is THE CITY! Fortunately I came across Cecil at Aeroskin, and although it is not their mainstream business, they were able to make the modifications I wanted quickly and at a fair price. If your suit needs changes or repairs, give them a try. Very friendly, and I don't think they will jerk you around. If they are confident they can do it, they will.”
