“This is my favorite Catholic gift shop! I find all I need here to support our religious life, whether it be gifts, books, incense, statues, cards, veils, etc. I most appreciate the children’s materials that complement our homeschool curriculum. Every single time we have come in here, we are treated like family. My children are welcome, and I am always so happy to see the owners and employees. This is definitely the place to go for a wide selection of goodies.”

“MATTER is an incredible bookstore with design, social conscious, and urban studies books that are often hard to find, pulling from a wide range of publishers like Verso, Phaidon, MIT Press. Beyond the incredible curating, print making, and great customer service, you get the sense that MATTER is a true shop front: if you have a chance to strike up a conversation, then you find the uniqueness in the connection MATTER has to global publishing, activism, and authorship. Denver is a better and more enriched cultural city for having MATTER!”

“What a wonderful little shop. John was exceptionally helpful. I had a very hard time not buying everything in sight but I made it out with the one book I was looking for. The prices seem quite reasonable even though the selection included very hard to find editions. I emailed asking about the book I was looking for and received a response letting me know that indeed they hadot and a copy was waiting for me when I walked in.”

They have found me several copies of hard to find pathfinder books and were totally right about our friend group in particular would probably enjoy 5e dnd way more. They aren't focused on selling you an expensive box set, they're focused on selling you an awesome experience with your friends. I won't buy my dice anywhere else!”

“My youngest son has a passion for trains. As we had some time in Colorado this weekend this was a must-stop. We ended up spending several hours there. This is a very interactive and neat place to visit. We were able to go on the train ride, and explore the grounds. Staff is very friendly and helpful, this is a treat for anyone, even the ones that may not be so passionate about trains.”

“The Hermitage is by far the best store of its kind in Denver or in Colorado and a treasure for anyone who values books & literature. Whether one's looking for a particular book ( they'll search for you) or simply wanting to browse their excellent selection, I don't know a better place to spend part of an afternoon. The staff is knowledgeable & very friendly. Highly recommended.”
“This is such a special place! Be warned you might end up spending hours here looking through all their books! It’s such a cool concept! They sell hardbacks for $3 and paperbacks for $2. The new books at the front are priced individually though.They take donations and have membership options too! I left with a stack of books, and honestly can’t wait to come back!Did I mention it’s the oldest 2nd hand bookstore in Denver!”

These ladies are very nice especially Lais, she is knowledgeable and helpful and always goes above and beyond for costumer service and that’s why I still go with them even while I’m in a different state. “Has a respectable quantity of books across many genres for the size of shop--they're putting *every* square foot to use here. (That said, the space seems it could be a challenge for wheeled patrons, unfortunately.) The area is walkable and there is a nice patio outside but if you're driving into the area, parking might be an issue at times. Didn't find what I was looking for but wouldn't hesitate to go back.”

“Awesome guys in there. Perfect vibe and energy. Your ideal stones will literally jump out at you if youre digging thru one of the bowls. Very inexpensive and walked out of there with 3 stones and string for my pendulum for no more than around 5 bucks. Amazing place!”

“I've been here multiple times and each visit has been great. The staff is very friendly and helpful, and they're all just really nice people. I've purchased books, gifts, journals, all kinds of things here. In October I purchased a really nice leather journal for my daughter, and even though she's written in a fair amount of it, it's not showing any wear, which is awesome. I wanted something that would last her a long time and it looks like I made the right choice.And I cannot stress this enough so it bears repeating - the staff is wonderful. All very friendly, they've chatted with myself and my children, and seem very genuine. I haven't had a bad experience at all. I do miss the little cafe, but otherwise, it's a great bookstore.”

“Ok so the original Black & Read a few miles north is amazing, but this little hole in the wall storefront is still full of charm!! I feel like it gets a bad rap being compared to the other store. But we had fun (and love eclectic records!). Lots of great records, great prices, and is far more organized than other (very old) reviews claim. If you want a quick stop for some good tunes, a family game, or something to read, definitely stop in (on Saturdays!). We'll be back for the next treasure hunt”
