“A great place to get nearly anything you could need for the farm. The staff is friendly and the store is well stocked. They struggle bit with getting people through the checkout lines and sometimes the staff at checkout is pretty limited, so I just try to make sure I’m not in a hurry when I stop in. Other than that, it’s a great place to get things that are hard to find in other stores because they have a pretty big inventory.”

“I had such a blast looking through the racks here and found some incredible deals on designer clothes that I usually see for way higher prices. The store was really well-organized, so even though there were a lot of items to look at, it didn't feel overwhelming to find my size in the jeans and jackets section. I ended up finding a pair of high-quality boots and a really soft sweater that I know I will wear all the time. The checkout line moved surprisingly fast for a busy Saturday, and the staff was very polite and wrapped everything up carefully. It is definitely my favorite spot to go when I want to update my wardrobe without spending a fortune.”

“I’ve been a “maxxinista”since they opened over 20 years ago. Can always find interesting things here from clothes to shoes, food to pet supplies and bedding to kitchen wares. Most of their stock is past season or overstock but I always find something I need/want. It’s not often I leave without finding something. It’s usually a pretty busy place. I’m glad there are three stores in Des Moines area. Each store has a little bit different items. It’s never the same thing twice. If you see something you like, buy it. Odds are it won’t be there when you come back.”

“Target Merle Hay is a-ok. Smaller version of the "super" Target that is only 5 min away. The layout of this location is different from the rest. It's also located and attached to the mall. Grocery can be found here. This location had some items in stock that others would be fully stocked. Nice collection of everything that a larger store would have: Opalhouse, Hearth and Hand, seasonal clothing brands, vegan items, electronics, bikes. I can tell they stock less of the items due to space. Service is ok. I tend to see same cashiers and customer service managers. I hardly come here but I have found that if other locations are out of something, I can find it here via Target app. Drive up pick up is offered here. Parking lot can be crazy. Layout is similar to others in DSM but just smaller.”
“Von Maur has been my favorite store for more than 30 years. You will NEVER find better service than what you get at Von Maur. Their credit card service is top notch, as well as their gift wrapping. I love everything about Von Maur.”

“It’s part of the TJ Maxx companies which I love. They have very similar items to TJ Maxx. Sometimes if I can’t find an item I saw at TJ Maxx, I go to Marshall’s to see if they have the item I want. They have unique and interesting products. They sell clothing, shoes, bedding, towels, kitchen wares, gift supplies and luggage. If you find something you like, better buy it. It won’t be there when you come back. I never go to the mall anymore.”

“Needed a dress for a wedding, shoped other named brand stores with no success finding the right one. Called my daughter in law in a panic and she said she found one at JC Penneys @ Valley West Mall, West Des Moines. Problem solved! Found the right dress at a sale price and even found a sweater on clearance for $11.50. The store and dressing rooms were clean and all the sales associates were very kind when I asked for help locating items and checking out. If your looking for quality clothes look at JC Penny's first, you won't be disappointed. Thank you JC Penny's!”

I went to customer service and the supervisory gal helped me get my order placed on my smartphone & I was able to use my gift card balance before finding out the total I needed to pay! Easy, peasy!! “This location is a large-format store with a deli, bakery, and expanded grocery. It also retains the classic SuperTarget logo even as Target continues to phase out SuperTarget branding. They sell some unique items here that I don’t normally see at many Targets, like Kendra Scott jewelry, with even more interesting products arriving when the Target Beauty Studio opens sometime in September. This location also has a CVS (located in the center of the store rather than along a wall), an Optical Center, and a Taste of Target area that sells classic popcorn and slushies. Oddly, the Taste of Target area is located on almost the exact opposite side of the store from the Starbucks. The Starbucks area is quite large and appears to have formerly been a Food Avenue food court, like those found in ‘80s and ‘90s Targets. My only point of critique is that, as of Fall 2026, the deli sells a lot of Boar’s Head products, and not just the prepackaged sandwich meats you see at many Targets. I can’t recall if all of the meat products in the deli section were Boar’s Head, but I can see the brand’s presence posing a problem for Target in the future, since I just don’t think many people trust Boar’s Head after its recent food-safety controversies. The bakery seems nice, though, selling both Target-branded pre-packaged goods and made-to-order baked goods. They also carry Krispy Kreme doughnuts.”
