“Shawn the manager and Tony are the best help I have ever had going into any auto parts store, he made me feel very comfortable, gave me options on the filter’s and did not try to up-sell me… Shawn came out and checked my oil for me and said that it wasn’t extremely low and I could last until my next oil change. Then Tony spent his time in the freezing cold changing both of my headlights which were a pain for him to change! “I walked into the parts store today to handle an AC warranty swap with the guy who sold it to me, only to find out he’s just… gone. Retired. 😞
I’ve known Ted for over 20 years, long before I ever launched this mobile operation. He was the very first person in this industry to look at me, see the potential, treat me like a real business, and set up my first commercial account. He didn’t just sell me parts; he stood behind me.
When you’re turning wrenches and building a business from the ground up, the right guy behind the counter is your lifeline. About 5 years ago, when my service truck, the T-Rod, started knocking Christmas morning, I was in a tight bind. I needed that truck to survive. Ted didn't hesitate. He put together an in-house special, rods, lifters, head gaskets, the whole nine yards, at a massive discount just to keep me on the road.
He bent over backwards for me. He waived tool deposits when he didn't have to. He gave me discounts just because he knew I was a good customer fighting the same fight. I literally wouldn’t be where I am today without guys like Ted supporting me in the trenches.
The true masters of this industry are aging out, and when they leave, they take a lifetime of loyalty, grit, and knowledge with them.
The torch has been passed silently on to me, and to be honest... it's heartbreakingly terrifying.
