“Your is one of the better Hy-Vee's the staff is helpful. They are by far the most affordable for certain items that I use daily . Now as much as I use the store I do have time single for gripe and that's the meat counter being limited on certain kinds of sea food”

“We drive 9 miles further than we need to to shop at this store. We drive past 2 of your other stores to shop here. We shop almost every Friday night. We usually have a nice chat with Katie the assistant/shift manager and Duane in the meat department if he's working that shift. For being in a big town they really make it feel like the old small town experience and we love that.”
“I like Fareway. Hard to afford the meat sometimes. Speaking of which I gave a 4 until I know for sure what happens with the livestock during all this process. But I really like it over HyVee I don't trust that place employing owned? Surrre. I.will stick with FAREWAY thank you”

“I appreciate the lower prices. But you do have to be watchful that some things are cheaper elsewhere. And it is disappointing when things are limited edition and you go back next month and the item no longer exist.”
“Stores are relatively small, so selection is sometimes limited. And they have no Sunday hours of operation.
However, you'll find the most helpful and courteous staff! You'll find fair prices, great sales, and the best meats!”

“Really great items. My wife and I slept on this place the first 2 years living in Iowa. I have 1 recommendation, if you fall in love with something there, immediately go back and stock up. Items are either seasonal or just dont return.”
“I’ve been shopping at this location for almost 6 years, and I’ve generally had positive experiences. I truly enjoy most of the employees I interact with, which makes this situation even more disappointing.
Today, April 24th (my daughter’s 1st birthday) I came in to pick up a cake I had ordered two weeks in advance for her birthday. I was really excited to see how it turned out, but when it was handed to me, I was immediately disappointed. It looked nothing like the reference photos I had provided. When I expressed my concern, the decorator explained that she made it that way so it “wouldn’t dry out,” which was never mentioned at the time of ordering.
I ended up returning the cake and walking away, already upset. While grabbing a small item for my daughter, I noticed the same baker shrugging her shoulders and saying “oh well.” That attitude was honestly more frustrating than the cake itself.
I’ve never experienced this kind of dismissiveness here before. I do believe I spoke with the bakery manager, and she did offer to discount the cake or remake it, which I appreciate, but at that point, I was too upset and just wanted to leave.
This was a really important day for my family, and the experience fell far short of expectations. I hope this feedback is taken seriously so future customers don’t have a similar experience.

“The store was pretty bare when I visited, but I think it is the only Afghan market in the area so I wish them well. It was hard to find at first because they don't have a large sign like other businesses do. I thought they were non-existent when I arrived!
Hopefully they start to offer more. I hear they are opening a restaurant.”

“The employees are excellent, kind, and helpful. But not enough of them are staffed and they're made to work too fast. The company is able to afford to staff more employees and should do it - it's the only thing that tarnishes the store's image, in my eyes.”
“I want to say the cashier Kaleb needs a raise..This young man went out his way for me Helped me out when he didnt need to.Also the tall manager i didnt catch his name for allowing me to store my bike in a safe place since i. didnt have a wa to secure it outside.The store is sn in and out type of store great prices amazing customer service.Thank Agian Kaleb!!”
“Not much else around east side of fairgrounds. HyVee and Fareway all the way east in Pleasant Hill at least a solid 4 miles plus the nasty University Ave race track driving. Anyways, this is a smaller Aldi compared to say Windsor Heights with tons of greater selections plus a huge self service checkout which this location does not have unfortunately. This Aldi is a great GREAT catch all imo for needed items on the way home. Their cashiers are 10 out of 10, everyone of them. Stockers might give the cold shoulder at times, but hey that’s a norm all over these days. Most of the time all regular items in stock, milk, eggs, breads, produce, waters, juices, ice cream (a staple no?), etc., etc. Parking lot tuff sometimes at peak periods and sometimes the typical homeless (according to their handheld signs) standing entrance if parking lot or occasionally at the door. Same thing at QT few blocks east. Store is good because of its location and I don’t wish to go another 10 minutes each way down to Pleasant Hill or 20-25 minutes to Altoona 8th Street shopping area. Go in with a frown and cashiers will turn that around, at least with me anyway.”

“This is for the woman working on 3/28/26 who rang up and bundled my flowers for me. Despite how busy the store was at the time she radiated a contagious joy that you couldn’t help but smile along with. I think she somehow made my flowers prettier just by being around them❤”

“Hy-vee has good amount of grocery items and variety as well. I believe they focus on better quality rather than just quantity but these stores are always huge.

Sometimes, I have my groceries carried to my car, and for this, I always tip a few dollars, nothing life changing. I was surprised to learn that tipping is quite rare. Bigfoot sightings seem more numerous.

“Shop here frequently. Cashier today @ 4pm 12/12/24 was incredibly nice, couldn't see his name tag as it was flipped around. He had glasses and gray hair. Gives the type of customer service that we had when people actually gave a s*** about their jobs - hard to do nowa days since wages haven't caught up with inflation. Give this man a raise.”

“This is my first experience at this location. I’m staying at the hotel next door so I’ve made at least three visits. Each visit was a pleasant experience.
The lady behind the counter, with the glasses, was very nice and had excellent customer skills.
The store was clean, well stocked and had a few good deals on beverages. I didn’t get a chance to purchase anything from coffee shop next door, but if I get motivated I’ll try it out.
I did buy two drinks (pictured) that are supposed to be an in-house brand. I’ll update this review about the drinks once I try them.”
