“Great customer service! The shop is small but with a good selection, and of course any book is available online. They’re very courteous and helpful, and communication with the team either on the phone or through their messaging app is great. Love OTB!”

“I simply adore this book shop! They have a vast collection of new and used books and I found one I have been searching for (which I can't wait to read) and so many excellent postcards, gifts and stickers. Zoe and the rest of the staff were beyond helpful and friendly. I will be back next time I return to town.”

“Such a unique store! Sells all cookbooks for all skill levels - including kids. Staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. They also have cool events with Authors! Parking SUCKS but that is not their fault - it is all street parking and very busy area”

“Fantastic location, with a large selection (that is well organized) and very friendly staff. I also found some great deals on some older more obscure books as well. I’ll definitely be back soon.”

“Very good quality selection of books without an obvious agenda that many bookstores have these days. Not a huge store, but a very good store. Will return to buy more.”

“Oh my goodness. I ordered a ginger chai, hot. When I tell you my jaw dropped when i took a sip of this drink, im not exaggerating. The best drink I’ve had in the time I’ve been in dc (a month), and I don’t know if anything can top it. Spicy, pungent, punchy ginger. Deep, deep flavor. Few places, if any, can do a chai NEARLY that good. Also, great ambiance, killer book selection, clearly a hub of community and a great place for people to convene. Also, for the drink I got, great price for DC. I will be back, for the ginger chai. I’m in awe.”

“Great selection and very responsive to requests or inquiries. The community events are enjoyable, particularly the book clubs with a little something for everyone. I appreciate the boards sharing local news and programs and grateful to have Solid State be my neighborhood bookstore!”

“Excellent local bookshop with great staff. Solid sections for kids and young adults -- my kids enjoyed being here while parents browsed. I saw the staff recommending books to a young reader and interacting with regulars. The shop has a good vibe and great selection of books.”

“This is my favorite third space. More than a bookstore, this is a hub for people to meet and engage in dialogue. There's always really great book talks and speakers, and I'm always happy to support them with my patronage.”

“Allie the server was AMAZING! Was not only very kind and welcoming as a whole, but was a greater server. Consistently filling up our waters, asking if we were ok, etc. 10/10 service. The food was also delicious!!”

“I usually don't leave reviews of places I visit, but I have to sing praises of this bookshop. They have some of the best book clubs in the district and sell myriad books that you cannot find at other bookstores or Walmart or wherever. A true DC gem. I just knocked off one star because they forgot about a book I preordered until I reminded them twice about it. Better to just shop in-store.”

“Best collection of 4k in the area. It truly is better than anything else in the DMV. I walked out with 7 movies today, and they averaged out to about 20 bucks a piece after tax. Unreal.”

“Went to a book event here last night. Appreciate that the attendance was free. Their event space fits about 70 seating spaces plus standing room. I thought it would be much more packed, but was pleasantly surprised by the intimate atmosphere. Had an awesome time and will have to keep an eye out for their other events.”

“I’m very loyal to Loyalty (pun intended). Cozy bookstore that has a great variety of new and interesting reads. The staff is always ready to give me a strong recommendation. They also have a ton of neat non-book items that are great for gifts.”

“Charming little store! The owner was awesome! Was just taking pictures to show my wife and ended up buying her 3 books! Apparently she will be giving me a list everytime I visit the DC area.”

“Nice cozy cafe and bookstore. Can't speak on the drinks but the muffins were too buttery for me, and seems like they used a gluten alternative which I personally don't like.”

“Excellent selection in the used books section, especially for books in Arabic from Lebanese authors. I was able to find Mai Ziyadeh books in very good conditions for 5$ and under”

“The bookstore is beautiful and well put together. But like most bookstores on college campuses it is expensive. But I also always expect that. My daughter is a student here so I went knowing I was about to be out of pocket at $600 😂 She wanted everything she saw and she is doing great in school…, it was homecoming…, she got what she wanted 😘”

“My son and I stopped in this gift shop today to get our NPS passport stamps while escaping the heat for a few minutes. My son, who is less than 2, was annoyed from the heat and was a little fussy while I was trying to stamp. The clerk, Michael, brought over a Junior Ranger workbook and a wooden pin for my son. It instantly changed his whole mood. Getting to stamp his workbook was so exciting for him. He even kept it in his lap for the rest of the morning.”

“As I was "Window Shopping" in Old Town Alexandria, I saw this book in the window ...Surviving Depression & thought maybe that book could help me get through the depression I'm having after loosing my son to suicide. After talking with Sister Cynthia, she pointed out the other 2 books & donated the Psalms Bible to me, she also stated there was a chapel upstairs if I needed some alone time (I did go up there & it was very peaceful & it's exactly what I needed .. some alone time with God). ❤️I'm not Catholic but I am a Christian, I absolutely loved this bookstore and the people who worked there, I will be back! Thank you so much for listening to me & letting me shed some tears, about my son Zachary, with you. ?God Bless you, Sister Cynthia ❤️?”
