Loretta
15 Pleasant St, NewburyportFirst time at Loretta on Valentine’s Day and we already can’t wait to go back! We started with the mussels in white wine/tomato sauce (ate most of them prior to take the picture). The sauce was delicious! For dinner I got the surf and turf special - lamb and shrimp, cooked perfectly. Not pictured was filet and shrimp for my husband, which he loved! For dessert we took home bread pudding which I would get again!

Chococoa Baking Co. & Cafe
The Tannery - Mill #1, 50 Water St, NewburyportI fell in love with the little whoopie pies that Chococoa specializes in 16 years ago when they opened. They are the perfect size! We were delighted to offer them as dessert at our wedding - a classic New England treat, but elevated - dense chocolaty cake with buttercream filling. The owners care about their customers, employees, service and products. Beyond the whoopie, baked offerings and drinks vary seasonally and always provide a twist on something classic - like their new gingerbread with salted caramel whipped cream. A great stop for a pick me up while in the Tannery, and there's always something you will want to bring home.

The Joy Nest

Brown Sugar by the Sea
75 Water St, NewburyportThe food was great especially for my expectations for Thai in the area. The spicy country style pad Thai was the standout for sure. I don’t think I would get the mango curry tho next time it wasn’t super interesting

NU Kitchen Newburyport
19 Pleasant St, NewburyportWe LOVED this place. If you're trying to eat healthier but still want delicious food this is it. They have both meat and vegan options and we went broadly vegetarian with the Banh Mi Bowl with vegan chicken and the Chipotle Avocado and Lime Bowl with seasoned tofu. Both were fabulous. We also had a latte with soy milk but there were lots of different milk options to choose from. Parking is street parking or one of the nearby lots which is what we chose. It was pretty busy even in January so I'd be prepared to give a few minutes over to parking but it's worth it. You can order at the counter or through a kiosk. We tried the kiosk but oddly it doesn't seem set up to give you a receipt so I would order at the counter next time. The staff were very nice about following up to get me my receipt but I think they just need to configure the system a bit more. Whether you order at the kiosk or the counter you take a number and the staff will bring you your food. Everyone was friendly and helpful and the dining area spacious and comfortable. There are quite a lot of good things to choose from on the menu so it will probably be returning next time we're in Newburyport to try and test out a few other items.

Carmine
25 State St, NewburyportShame on us for not reading the fine print under a reservation for two, but an hour for dinner is just a little bit rushed. Everything was great until the last 15 minutes. We had ordered espresso martinis at the 45/50 minute mark and were told that was fine. They were brought over close to the hour time limit, and from the second they were put down, we were being “cheers-ed” out. Within 10 minutes, we were “cheers-ed” 4 times before we were told there was another reservation. I’d rather have been told not to order the espresso martinis. We essentially took them like a shot as it was super uncomfortable at the end!

Metzy's Cantina
5 Boston Way, NewburyportHad a great experience here, the atmosphere and food were great. With the very large screen, it feels like a fusion between a Mexican restaurant and a sports bar, which is a great vibe! We ordered a couple things, but would most recommend the nachos, empanadas and of course the strawberry margaritas. We’ll be back!
