Loretta
15 Pleasant St, NewburyportFirst time at Loretta on Valentine’s Day and we already can’t wait to go back! We started with the mussels in white wine/tomato sauce (ate most of them prior to take the picture). The sauce was delicious! For dinner I got the surf and turf special - lamb and shrimp, cooked perfectly. Not pictured was filet and shrimp for my husband, which he loved! For dessert we took home bread pudding which I would get again!

Olive's Coffee & Bakehouse
341 High St, NewburyportWe are usually people who choose to make coffee at home because of how expensive it can be out, but I had heard about Olives Coffee Shop and we were in the area so I definitely needed a little pick-me-up. My Husband and I decided to stop in and I’m so glad we did. The place was absolutely adorable, but what really stood out was the staff. From the moment we walked in, they were incredibly kind and welcoming, which honestly isn’t something you experience everywhere anymore. Each person seemed genuinely happy to be there and more than willing to help with any questions or let us take our time. There was no pressure, no rushed feeling just a really comfortable, relaxed atmosphere. We both got the Samoa iced coffee and it was absolutely incredible. It was a bit pricey, but in our opinion it was 100% worth it. We were honestly hooked—we even drove 45 minutes back three weekends in a row just to get it again because we loved it so much.
I hyped it up so much that I even brought my mom, and she enjoyed it just as much as we did. We also took our daughter for Valentine’s Day, and she got a cake pop, which she loved. Everything is super well decorated, and the whole space has such a fun, kid-friendly vibe while still feeling like a great spot for adults too. The only small downside is that the parking situation out back is a bit funky. It’s set up in a row of cars, and when it gets busy, people sometimes have to park behind others. We actually got blocked in for about 30 minutes once while we decided to just enjoy our drinks in the car, but I could see how that might be frustrating for customers during peak times.

Chococoa Baking Co. & Cafe
The Tannery - Mill #1, 50 Water St, NewburyportI fell in love with the little whoopie pies that Chococoa specializes in 16 years ago when they opened. They are the perfect size! We were delighted to offer them as dessert at our wedding - a classic New England treat, but elevated - dense chocolaty cake with buttercream filling. The owners care about their customers, employees, service and products. Beyond the whoopie, baked offerings and drinks vary seasonally and always provide a twist on something classic - like their new gingerbread with salted caramel whipped cream. A great stop for a pick me up while in the Tannery, and there's always something you will want to bring home.

The Joy Nest
50 Water St, NewburyportIt’s hard to imagine how our evening could have been more perfect. We went for dinner during our night away from the kids and it truly felt like a getaway. The atmosphere is fun and sophisticated without being pretentious. The menu is flavorful yet everything felt fresh and healthy. The cocktails were perfect—I even had two, which is rare. The jazz trio perfectly complemented the mood and wasn’t too loud. The only thing that could have been better was the service. Our server was relatively inattentive but she seems to have been a rare exception to the norm here. Can’t wait to go back.

NU Kitchen Newburyport
19 Pleasant St, NewburyportMy husband and I worked remotely from here for 8+ hours the other day because we were having electrical work done on our home. Let me tell you… this is the absolute best cafe for working remotely! There are outlets everywhere, great wifi, and tons of different seating options (booths, countertops, etc). You can order online and they will deliver to your table # which was so convenient. We got coffees, smoothies, breakfast bowls, lunch bowls, and more throughout the day and everything was delicious! We will definitely be back.

Carmine
25 State St, NewburyportCarmine’s in Newburyport absolutely set a new standard for what a restaurant experience should be. From the moment we walked in, everything was dialed in at a level you rarely see.
Luca, the owner, personally invited us out and made sure the entire night exceeded expectations — and it showed. The hospitality was on another level. Maddy, our host, was welcoming, organized, and made everything feel effortless right from the start.
Behind the bar, Nicole and George were hands down some of the best bartenders I’ve ever come across. Not just fast and precise, but genuinely engaging — the kind of people who elevate the entire atmosphere of a place.
And the food… absolutely spectacular. Every dish was executed perfectly, from presentation to flavor.
I’ve met Luca elsewhere before, but seeing how he runs Carmine’s firsthand really puts things into perspective. He’s built something special here — a place where service, energy, and quality all come together at a high level.
If you’re in Newburyport and want a top-tier experience, Carmine’s is a must.

Metzy's Cantina
5 Boston Way, NewburyportHad a great experience here, the atmosphere and food were great. With the very large screen, it feels like a fusion between a Mexican restaurant and a sports bar, which is a great vibe! We ordered a couple things, but would most recommend the nachos, empanadas and of course the strawberry margaritas. We’ll be back!
