Grocery Stores in Portsmouth, RI

“Great store with a full line of groceries. I've shopped there weekly on average since it opened. They have a lot interesting things you'll never find anywhere else. They'll special order things for you (like full cartons of chocolate bars, in my case).

I've noticed that for items like sunscreen, probiotics, liquid hand soap and vitamins the Green Grocer is often considerably less expensive than Amazon, sometimes half price. Amazon has now established market dominance (it's the only place you can buy many things) and is jacking up prices to rip-off levels.

This is the only store I know of selling sunscreen that doesn't burn your eyes (Badger is one brand).

They have a cooler shelf of wrap sandwiches (and normal bread) in a dozen tasty varieties. When I go on a trip I'll bring them for 3 days of lunches, plus another egg salad for breakfast while driving. It's quicker, less expensive and healthier than fast or ski cafeteria food.”

“Absolutely loved my sandwich- had the Genova and added a chicken cutlet. It was delicious! Every ingredient was so fresh. Can’t wait to come back to try some of their prepared foods”

“Awesome staff, the owner is not afraid to jump in and do anything that is needed. If you need something and they don't have it they will get it for you. Old school store the way it should be!!!”

“Not only was I to be amazed over her methodical display of creative and local artistic souvenirs and gifts, some essentials and conveniences, the cleanliness and orderly style of the store, but, most of all, the personal kind manners and values of the owner and operator of the store herself. This is a hidden jewel within the best secret of RI, on an island that best represents Nature, Peace and Tranquility shared among some few good folks who wave and smile at all visitors. Stop by and say hello to Lori; you'll be glad you did!”

“We were in Aquidneck Island (which many people call Newport Island) and we stopped at this Dollar General to check out some of their inexpensive draperies for our beach cottage. I was surprised to see the large selection of standard decorative draperies and darkening curtains. I usually don't think of a dollar store for these, but I was glad that I had a chance to check them out. They had a good selection of sizes, colors and features. So, folks, if you are looking for inexpensive draperies, think about dollar stores like Dollar General to check their options and see how they compare to higher end, more expensive stores...if all you need is something basic, this might do the trick.”
