West Mountain Animal Hospital: Pence Suzy DVM
1726 Harwood Hill Rd, BenningtonI thought veterinary clinics like this did not exist anymore. Their guiding principle is genuine care for pets instead of making profit, which is what many other clinics do. I will bring my pets here for the rest of my life and I recommend everyone to at least go check the atmosphere in the clinic and you'll know what I mean. The staff, the technicians, the vets, they are all amazing!

Pet Sitting & Training

Ten Dog Lane
21 Jennings Dr, BenningtonChristine provided dog walking services for our Nic, a lovable, nervous Feist. She was professional and personable from the start, and she clearly demonstrated her attention to detail by her follow up questions and care for Nic. She let him ease into their new friendship, never pushing him or scolding him for his nervous nips. It didn’t take much time for her to win him over, and he was soon jumping a foot in the air whenever he saw her car pull into our driveway! I never had to worry if Christine would show up or cut out early - she checked in with us regularly during her visits and promptly let us know of delays or changes to schedule (which were not many or unreasonable - she is far more willing to walk in inclement weather than us!). And she was so accommodating of our schedules! I can’t say enough good things about Christine, I wholeheartedly recommend her.

421 Craft Bar and Kitchen
421 Main St, BenningtonGreat food and atmosphere right on Main Street. The front is open air, and there was live music when I was there from 7:30-9:00pm on a Wednesday night. I had the portobello burger and a local IPA beer named after Built to Spill!

The Publyk House
782 Harwood Hill Rd, BenningtonI tried the Wagyu burger so you don’t have to.
I tried it twice. It was overcooked both times. I would have been OK maybe if it were medium, but it was medium well at best the second time and worse the first. Both went to the dog. I still don’t know what the local Waygu fuss is about. Ask our pup.
The manager was excellent when I called about the first overcooked burger. I know he really tried to get the second one done properly. I have no inference to make other than that the chef is determined to perform a tragedy on this meat. Liability concerns? I’d have gleefully signed a waiver for my medium rare beef.
I’m sure if I pursued another complaint (especially with photos) they’d try again, but I’m out of this game.
For other notes, both times a single small sad pale tomato slice was included with an over abundance of onion. It’s summer. I expect generosity with good tomatoes. I am a purist and add nothing to a good burger.
We’ve probably eaten here a dozen times while we’ve lived here. Nothing to write home about, but nothing worth complaining about until now. Hence, an overall decent review.
But don’t shell out for that burger without seriously adjusting your expectations.

The angry egg two
467 Main St, BenningtonTraveling thru Vermont and looking for a good breakfast with some real maple syrup. I found The Angry Egg 2 on Google. The appearance of The Angry Egg 2 was very cute on the outside and inside both. Very Clean looking. Our waitress was very nice and attentive to us. A plus that they had decaf coffee! Unfortunately no sweet tea. Adding sugar later just isn't the same, but was offered, (we are southerners). We were looking for a breakfast with real maple syrup for a Vermont experience. We each had the Im Hangry Breakfast. It was a lot of food. We knew we wanted pancakes and syrup. It does tell you on the menu all pancakes have cinnamon in them. Topped with maple butter and then we paid I believe $2 extra each to have real maple syrup that comes in a tiny condiment cup. We felt the cinnamon and maple flavors did not mesh well. The cinnamon was to over bearing. Took away from the actual real maple syrup we were wanting to try and pancakes. The breakfast also came with bacon that was light and crisp, sausage links that were also maple flavored, home fries and eggs cooked to order a long with a order of toast. It all was very tasty. My husband ordered rye toast. It is unusual to find rye toast served for breakfast. Unfortunately, his toast was served molded. Placed mold side down and had already eaten one slice and taken a bite of another before he noticed it. Our waitress was very apologetic. Blamed it on buying bread at Aldi's grocery the day before. I blame it on the cook for not looking at the bread before toasting and plating before serving. His breakfast was discounted to half price which we felt was generous. Over all the breakfast was really good, we did not like the cinnamon pancakes, an option for plain pancakes would be nice and I would rather see the pancakes a dollar higher and maybe one less, than to know I had to pay extra for real syrup and receive a tiny amount.
