“I loved this quaint and cozy book store - it had so many creative touches that the employees had added. Lovely collection of books, with personal reviews attached to the shelves from the employees. The girl at the register was super nice and helpful. We just happened to stumble across this shop when we lost our way to some place else, and it feels like we were meant to find it. Loved it, would visit again.”
“As a thriller and romance author, I always pay attention to standout bookstores, and Barnes & Noble is one of the bigger, high-traffic locations in the area.
This store is a two-level layout with a dramatic feel, featuring escalators leading up to a mezzanine level where the café is located. The open design makes the whole space feel larger and more like a full bookstore experience rather than a simple retail stop.
The selection is excellent across genres, and it’s easy to spend time exploring different sections. The upper-level café adds a nice place to sit and relax with a drink while browsing.
Parking is convenient, and the store is easy to access within the shopping area. The staff has always been helpful and friendly, keeping the experience smooth even when it’s busy.
Overall it’s a flagship-style Barnes & Noble with a great layout, strong selection, and a lively atmosphere to enjoy.”
“As a thriller and romance author, I always enjoy visiting bookstores while traveling, and Barnes & Noble is a great classic location.
The store has that familiar Barnes & Noble layout that makes it easy to browse and spend time exploring different sections. It’s comfortable, well organized, and a nice place to slow down for a bit.
One detail that really stood out was their banned and collectible books display, featuring titles like 1984, The Iliad, and The Catcher in the Rye. It’s a thoughtful setup that adds a little extra depth and interest while you’re walking through the store.
The staff has always been friendly and helpful, which makes the experience even better.
Overall it’s a solid, classic bookstore with a good selection and a welcoming atmosphere.”
“One of my favorite bookstores in Richmond, VA. Located in Carytown. This bookstore is two stories. They buy used books and even have a store cat! I Had lunch and drinks here Sunday, then walked over to see what new reads were in stock. I lucked up and found a book on my Amazon wishlist! A Review is coming soon”

“J Sargeant Reynolds has gown. Going in to register for one class and the staff goes above and beyond to make sure you have what you need or where to get the answers, without running throughout the building. Security is there to assist with a smile as well. I like the atmosphere.”
“I have been buying books from this shop for twenty years. They are knowledgeable, friendly, and professional. The stock cannot be beaten in Americana, Literature, and History and this is an excellent place to find an uncommon book for a gift. The owner and his wife are exceptional people, who hosted me by appointment for a few hours. They offered to have me stay as long as I wanted until closing. They are now appointment only, due to the pandemic and their new location, as many similar booksellers have become. This should not be a deterrent! It is certainly worth arranging a trip!”
“A nice alternative to Barnes and Noble. When I first moved up here (pre covid) they seemed kinda expensive, but for what I buy their prices haven't gone up since, so now compared to the rest of the world they are affordable. Staff have been nice every time I've gone in. Their location changed, which I'm sure is confusing some folks because the old building still has the name up, so I've attached a picture of the front of the new building.”
“Awesome little shop! Layout is very open and feels very welcoming. Good selection of books and vinyl. Prices good. Small Friends is definitely worth checking out!”
“It was pretty cool seeing all the toys, I ended up getting a brain puzzle for me and a squishy blobfish for my sister and a hand buzzer for my brother. I really liked that place”
“Yesterday, I visited Aquarian, where I received exceptional assistance from Helen. She went out of her way to ensure I secured the best possible price for my item, even taking the extra step of contacting another location to confirm. The whole staff was exceptionally kind! The atmosphere is enchanting, and their inventory encompasses everything essential for practitioners of witchcraft or otherwise. If you’re looking for a metaphysical shop in Richmond, I 100% recommend this one!”
“Everyone I've met here is so knowledgeable and just nice to talk to. Some of my favorite conversations have been here. The selection is so good that I always end up getting more than what I went in there for. A trip here always brightens my day.”
“As a thriller and romance author, I always enjoy visiting bookstores while traveling, and Barnes & Noble is a great location.
The store has a clean, well-thought-out design that makes it easy to browse and spend time exploring different sections. The music section and audiobook area are especially nice additions, giving the store a broader media feel beyond just books.
There’s also a comfortable café area, which makes it easy to sit down with a drink and take a break while browsing.
The staff has always been friendly and helpful, adding to the overall welcoming atmosphere.
Overall it’s a well-designed Barnes & Noble with a strong selection and a great place to spend some time.”
“It's THE bookstore. Ok, so your super new books "may" not be available right now, but they get shipments weekly AND so many good used books to select from as well! They have a great kids section, guitars and vinyls, board games, and merch! They have tables with genre based selective reads along with the latest 'book-tok' choices! LOVE this store!!”
“Pretty good campus bookstore, I like hanging out in their cafe more than the library because it's usually more empty. However I'm usually not there long because of the time it closes. Very good book selection even though it's only about a 3rd of the store or less ? it's mostly clothes”

“Mr. Clark Albright, you made no purchase, harassed staff and customers, and interrupted private business feeling self-entitled. I hope charges are brought against you by BookHolders for your aggressive behavior for trespassing and harassment. Shop online so no one ever has to deal with you personally again.”
“Updated review:
Such a peaceful store, the gentleman working there (I am so sorry I forgot your name) was so helpful and informative and gave a lot of amazing tips to help with an issue I had
Will always stop in when I am in the area”
