Brandon Animal Hospital
3403 Brandon Ave SW, RoanokeWe absolutely LOVE Dr. O'Dell and the entire Brandon Animal Hospital team. They are punctual, professional and very thorough. They have checked in post-appointments via text message and that was so helpful and really gives us peace of mind.
My dog has some fear/anxiety around vet visits and being handled by strangers. It was a breath of fresh air watching Dr. O'Dell handle my dog using force free, fear free methods. If you have a sensitive/fearful dog like I do, I cannot recommend Dr. O'Dell enough! He is kind, thoughtful and obviously values animals emotional needs just as much as their physical needs. Thank you, Dr. O'Dell!

Communication between us was great and He made sure I stayed informed.

A Few Old Goats Brewing
515 8th St SW Unit 228, RoanokeIf the weather is nice there is no better place to hang out and have a beer than their outdoor seating area. It's extremely nice, and the beer here is probably the best you're going to find in Roanoke. The staff is great, and their growlers are reasonably priced. They don't stay open very late, so be sure to get there early.

Jack Brown's Beer & Burger Joint Roanoke
210 b Market St SE, RoanokeSince I had read this was a dive bar, I was fully expecting cold, spotty service like I've experienced in other places. I couldn't have been more wrong! We were greeted right off the bat and the bartenders were so friendly. I loved the funky atmosphere that felt sort of steampunk to me. And the burgers were incredible. I got one of the most unique combos I've seen which was a burger topped with house made mac n cheese, potato chips and bbq sauce. Their jacked up fries are also great and taste like animal fries on steroids. They have several craft beers on tap and beers from all over the country in cans. The place is small though with maybe 16 bar stools and a handful of tables. But it's a fun experience!!

bloom restaurant & wine bar
1109 Main St SW, RoanokeThe cinnamon roll brought tears to my eyes!
I just ate a bloom cinnamon roll. The whole thing. By myself! There is no way mere humans made it. Celestial beings had to have made that cinnamon roll… Whenever I eat at bloom, I always have the experience that their food is connecting with my entire being, through my heart and soul, in as much as the exacting care that is put into ingredients and preparation tends my body. “Delicious” is a heavenly, healthy word, here on earth, thanks to bloom. Long live bloom!

The Albemarle Bakery & Coffee House
203 Albemarle Ave SW, RoanokeWonderful local coffee shop in Roanoke. Don't let the outside fool you! I would pass by this place every time if I didn't see the sign. The owners did an excellent job flipping this home into a coffee shop. Great place to work and/or meet someone. The coffee is delicious and highly recommend trying their famous cheddar rosemary biscuits - these are fabulous! They also have a variety of breakfast items and pastries. Please note, they are only open Monday-Friday. Maybe the owners will consider opening on Saturdays in the future :)

China Wok
4821 Williamson Rd, RoanokeThe young man who answered the phone was friendly, clear, and helpful. When I arrived, my order was ready, even though they were very busy. The egg roll I ate on the way home had a surprisingly baked-bread-like wrapper. (Perhaps these were made in house? I prefer wraps that have more egg in them and fry up bubbly crispy and chewy.) We ordered pork steamed dumplings, pints of Beef & Broccoli and Sweet & Sour Chicken with white rice. The price of our order was very reasonable, about $24. The food was fresh & tasty. My beef was very tender and the broccoli cooked just right. I had enough for a delicious lunch the next day. My husband typically orders Sweet & Sour or Orange chicken, either of which is breaded, fried, then covered with sticky sugary sauce. Tsk! I shake my head. This is too rich for his digestion! He ate his entire meal with an eggroll and a dumpling or two, twice the amount he normally eats for dinner, then complained that indigestion kept him up at night. His complaints don't count! Order something sensible, people! I'm thankful to all ya'll on Yelp for helping me find this popular place!

Golden Cactus Brewing
214 5th St SW, RoanokeA very fun brewery to visit. Lots of plants inside and out. I love going and sitting outside at the picnic benches and all the plants. Inside has a fun vibe with pinball and large tables for big groups. They also sell non alcoholic drinks, t shirts, stickers, totes, ect. All the beers I've had here have been great too. The RKE food hut is attached to the building if you want food too or tuccos next door.
