Re: Above and Beyond (Joe, store manager)
On May 2, 2026, I celebrated my college graduation, earning a Bachelor of Science in Health Care Administration. For the occasion, I ordered 96 pieces of chicken, 72 fried and 24 baked from the Kroger store in Smithfield, VA, with a scheduled pickup time of 4:00 PM. When I arrived, I was informed that my order had just begun being prepared and would take another 25 minutes. Already overwhelmed from managing everything on my own, I became very upset with my event set to begin at 5:00 PM, and I felt the stress quickly building. The associate assisting me immediately apologized and tried to explain the situation. She walked me to customer service, where she connected me with the store manager, Joe. When he approached, he sincerely apologized and said he would personally deliver the order to my home. I was completely shocked. When he asked me to write down my address, I was so emotional that I could barely write my address. Understanding the urgency, Joe told me to head home and assured me he would text when he was on the way. I rushed back, as I had additional food in the oven. About 20 minutes later, at 4:30 PM, Joe texted me with an estimated arrival time of 4:50 PM, he arrived right on time, bringing everything into my home.
Joe, I want to sincerely thank you. We often talk about going above and beyond in customer service, but you truly embodied that commitment. I shared this story with everyone at my event, and they were amazed that such genuine care still exists. Your kindness deeply touched me and turned a stressful situation into one of gratitude and relief. I will never forget how you stepped in and saved the day. Thanks to you, the stress I felt when leaving the store completely disappeared. From me and my family, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Please continue being such a blessing to others.
