“I went into Big Five in mid-October while visiting family in Shoreline. The AirbnB I was staying at had a terrible mattress, and I would not be able to sleep on it another night. I went into Big Five hoping to find something I could sleep on for a few nights. An excellent young lady named Damaris not only directed me to the camping-style mattresses, she explained the two options and helped me select the one that would be best for my circumstances. The air mattress I purchased exceeded all of my expectations, and I slept like a baby for the next five nights. The customer service I received saved me hundreds of dollars as I did not have to leave the AirBnb for a hotel. I appreciate the selection of Big Five and the patience and thoughtfulness of Damaris. Thank you!”

“Motion Boardshop is the place to go for all of your longboarding needs! Longboarding has been a hobby of mine since childhood, but I took a ten year hiatus, and needed to start from scratch on a new setup. I also wanted to introduce my partner to the sport. Nate, the owner, helped us each pick out the right setup for us individually, explaining every intricate detail of what each component does and how it affects your cruise. I initially came with the intention of buying a much more expensive setup, and he led me to the perfect setup for my needs which was much more affordable. Motion Boardshop also has a HUGE selection of unique, locally manufactured decks and components, which are all top tier in quality. We will definitely be back when we are ready to start the more expensive board sport...”

They also have very reasonably priced surfboard rentals. I was so happy to find this shop and benefit from their great advice.”

I also was able to get a racket that was ready to go and they also have the option to string them too. The stringing option is relatively affordable as well for all their prices.”

“I've been here twice within two weeks. They have an amazing return policy and really care about you finding a shoe that works. I've brought shoes here for over a decade! You have 30 days to return the shoes if they don't work out. What prompted me to write a review 7 years later from my first review was the expertise of one of the sales people, Robert. My beloved ASICS updated their shoes and don't work for me anymore. The shoes I brought two weeks ago killed my arches and shin the three times I wore them. I came in and told him the issue. He said to sit tight. He brought out three shoes of different brands and I ran outside and up the hill (it's the test run they have people do). He was so knowledgeable and considerate and asked me questions. I ended up getting an even switch because the shoes were the same price. To me, it's worth spending good money on running shoes. ($140) The person who originally sold me the shoe didn't say much, and the lady who greeted us at the door today didn't help me when I said I was going to return or exchange my shoes depending on what I found. (Rude) Overall, Robert is worth going back too! Plus they had some gems on the sales rack that we purchased too! Overall,”

“Seattle Watersports, specifically Guy and Gino, really bailed us out of a bad situation. We were selling a boat with no trailer and our buyer (a big name boat store around here) backed out last-minute and left us scrambling. We had moorage that was expiring and a tight timeline to get it out of the water. Without a trailer, our options were pretty limited and we wanted to avoid the route where we had to buy a new trailer to sell our old boat. What a nightmare! I called up Seattle Watersports and laid it all out on the table with Gino. If you know anything about boat/car sales, you know this is usually the wrong call. You lose all your negotiating leverage if you do this. I did it anyway, and it honestly was fine. We found a price we agreed on, did a quick water test, they charged us a fair price for a couple maintenance items that had *just* become an issue in the last few weeks of owning the boat and we walked away with a check! The whole experience of selling a boat under a tight timeline was really stressful but Seattle Watersports really came through. They knew they had all the leverage but still treated us with respect and didn't try to take advantage of our situation. I was a little hesitant with these Yelp reviews but the experience we had was top notch. Other than selling our boat to them, we stopped in a few times over the years for wakeboarding gear, buoys, fenders, ropes - they have a great selection and so convenient for boaters on the north-end.”

We stopped by because I had to make a return and they had all the sizes we needed on hand. “If you're looking for winter sports equipment, make this your first stop! I used their snowboarding rental services last season and came back as I had a great experience previously. All their staff were very friendly and professional. My initial intention was to rent, but after taking some time to think I concluded that it would make more sense to buy my own snowboard as I love the sport and decided it was time to commit. Ethan was so exceptional, he set me up with the most excellent collaboration taking quality and pricing into consideration, I got the best prices and the best equipment. My snowboarding ventures have been phenomenal thanks to his expertise and careful input! I highly recommend this spot to embark on your recreational endeavors :)”

I was a little nervous because I hadn't shot a bow in about 10 years and wasn't sure what the environment would be for someone who just wanted to casually shoot (not in a league or a class), but it ended up being exactly what I was looking for! David was so great - he got us set up with all of our equipment and then showed us proper form. Once we had a couple rounds to get our form down, he helped us aim properly for the center of the target. I got a lot better over one hour in a very non intimidating environment :)”

“This REI gets 5 stars for just being a dope equipment / sporting goods Mecca. It's the grown up version of Toys R Us. Normally, I wouldn't write a review for an REI but feel like I needed to shout out one of their employees for being super patient and helpful last week. After several years, our hiking boots had seen better days. It was a couple of days before 2024 and wanted to start of with a hike and needed fresh footwear to do so. Queue up the field trip to REI's boot department. Marcko was awesome! We explained how my last pair would cause my toes to bruise. He was determined took the time to walk through the options and ended up brining about 5 different shoes for me and over 10 for my fiance. Throughout the process he asked very specific questions and do specific motions to ensure we had the right fit. He even helped demo a knot to ensure our boots stay laced up more effectively on the trails. This all felt like him going above and beyond and he seemed very happy to help. Beyond this there's always a great selection at this store (skis, paddle boards, camping, and outdoors clothing) keeping us happy year round.”
“One of the last independent ski shops left in Seattle, from the inevitable business as usual consildation process (Evo buying small shops as evidence). Both models work for me, but independent shops offer a more personal experience, especially when the folks are in it for the long haul; there's visible investment by employees which I appreciate and helps my decision to return.”
