I wasn't quite sure how I was going to fix it but store employee Randy directed exactly how to do it and picked out all the parts for me. All of this within about 15 minutes of closing time. I got home, fixed the problem and now my family won't have to wait until tomorrow for water, showers, toilet flushing, etc. Not the first time Randy has helped me figure out a project but this time saved the day (night). “As a polar explorer and mountaineer, I rely on gear that performs in extreme conditions, and The North Face in downtown Spokane represents that standard well.
I have used North Face gear for over 16 years across major expeditions. That includes setting a world record for the longest solo expedition to the South Pole, experiences I later wrote about in my Antarctica book Antarctic Tears. I have also climbed Denali solo multiple times, which helped shape Lost at Windy Corner, and led an unsupported and unaided crossing of the Greenland Ice Cap as part of one of the oldest teams ever to complete it, which became Two Friends and a Polar Bear.
This store carries a strong selection in a typical North Face footprint. The layout is clean, organized, and focused on technical gear. It is easy to move through and evaluate what you need without distraction.
The staff was attentive and knowledgeable. They answered questions clearly and understood how the gear is actually used, which matters when you have spent time in real-world environments like Antarctica, Denali, and Greenland.

“Just visited your new location inside the Riverfront Mall. What a great space! Nice layout and great lighting. I haven’t been to a Lulu in a few years. I’ve been a loyal customer since 2008 and always admired your innovative and unique ways you design your pieces. I have many. In recent years your style, marketing and vision seemed took a turn and I migrated to Viori. I came in today to replace a few classic pieces that have worn out and I was PLEASANTLY surprised. “The staff here is excellent!My family and I came in yesterday to get a pair of basketball shoes for my daughter. She has a wider foot and is very particular about how her shoes feel and had just tried on a couple pairs at another store and it's safe to say she was over it.Upon entry, we were IMMEDIATELY greated by staff and asked if we needed help with anything. I told them we were looking for basketball shoes for our daughter and were shown a couple options for size 3 and tried a pair on. Then decided to move to a size 4. Two staff members went and looked at the size 4 options and discussed amongst themselves what they felt would be the best option for my daughter before recommending the MB1 Jr's. Her mood immediately changed when she tried them on, so we bought them. She ran during her ENTIRE game yesterday and didn't complain ONCE! Thank you so much to this amazing staff for being patient, nonjudgemental, knowledgeable, helpful, and making my daughter comfortable on the court. Y'all are rockstars!”

“As the author of The Most Crucial Knots to Know and The Motivated Amateur’s Guide to Winter Camping, I spend a lot of time in outdoor stores, and REI is a strong location in Spokane.
As the author of The Grant Colson Thriller Series, I also notice how these spaces are built for real use, and this one stands out. There’s a dual-tower climbing wall in the middle of the store, which immediately sets the tone. Shoes are upstairs, while the main camping and outdoor gear is downstairs, with a solid clothing section as well.
The selection is deep across categories. Backpack options are extensive, and the climbing gear section is well stocked. They carry high-end brands like Arc’teryx alongside REI’s in-house line. The bike shop is impressive, with a strong range of bikes and service capability.
You will also find a good variety of freeze-dried food, along with smaller accessories and gear items that round out the store.
One thing to know is parking. It is located behind the building. If you follow GPS directions too closely, it may take you toward a loading dock, so plan to circle around to the back.
It is a well-equipped REI with strong inventory, a unique climbing setup, and everything needed for serious outdoor use.”

She found the exact shoe I was looking for and brought some other ones I might be interested in. I found the perfect pair of shoes for me.
