Maple Paw
2085 Skyline Dr, BurnabyYES YES YES YES YEEEEEEESSSSSS!! I recommend this store!!! Woohoo!!Short backup on why: I was at another local pet shop and I bought these AMAZING freeze dried bully sticks (at $14-17.99 according to the sticker on the product, little did I know I was rung up $29.50 for it ... did not even know. Til I was arranging to pay on the phone for more)... so of course now I'm a tad irked I paid double the price I saw. But. Anyways. Whatever. The prices was a lot higher for the larger bag of chicken discs (we call them that) the Farmland Traditions Jerky... so a bit of thinking I decided to google some going market prices....FARMLAND WITH MP ($25 for 16oz bag, the other store $38 )VITAL FD BULLY STICKS ($22 for 5 pack, the other store $29 )I wanted 2 Bully 1 chicken and a bag of kibbles ($29 for kibbles I found another store that will sell that to me for sale plus $5 coupon I have so it will be around $21) for $147.... So if we minus about $35 for the kibbles that's $110 for 1 bag of chicken and 2 bags of sticks.I got 3 bags of chicken and 3 bags of sticks for $140 (difference of $30 I got 2 bags more of chicken and one more bag of sticks.... This is huge savings!!!)Best part? I ordered it just before 8 pm on Tuesday and it arrived at noon on Wednesday. They beat Amazon on speedWow I'm so impressed. No frills. Simple brown spare box just says maple paw and it doesn't even have invoice. Just the food and on time. I can dig that. And my dog is thrilled.I’ve just ordered my second order during the Thanksgiving long weekend and it came today, Tuesday Oct 10, I ordered it like Oct 8. They delivered it right on time. Texted me to make sure it was left where I’d like it. Photo to show me where exactly it wasAnd I just placed my 3rd order in 3 weeks. About $500 spent now so far and still always perfect.

Tailstopia
6626A Hastings St, BurnabyBest customer service I’ve received in a long time! Went in on Thursday evening looking for flea medication for my cat but didn’t know his weight - either above 4kg or below. After receiving some good advice and what felt like true, genuine care for an animal this person had never and will never meet, we settled on the above 4kg dose. Then he threw in some wet cat food samples and told me to go home, weigh my cat and if he was less than 4kg, don’t open the box and come back for an exchange. Lovely person and told me to join the points club with my next purchase but to keep this receipt so it can count. (Spoiler alert: cat weighed in at 13lbs… my furry dude is going on a diet!!)

Galbi Korean BBQ Kingsway
4300 Kingsway unit 6, BurnabyIf I could give Galbi Korean BBQ 6 stars, I would.
From the moment we arrived, the staff were incredibly kind and welcoming. We went on a Sunday night and expected a wait, it was about 45 minutes but absolutely worth it. We ordered the Chef’s BBQ Combo D, and it was more than enough for all of us to leave completely full. They continuously refilled our sides and sauces, so we were never without anything. Everything felt clean, organized, and really well run.
My personal favourites were the marinated beef short rib, the fresh salad, bean paste soup, scallion salad, and the cheesy corn — all so flavourful and perfectly done.
This is hands down one of the best spots to come with your partner or a group, where you can relax, cook together, and actually enjoy the experience as much as the food. We’ll 100% be coming back. ??

La Taqueria Brentwood By La Taqueria Pinche Taco Shop
4580 Brentwood Blvd Unit 1210, BurnabyIf you’re visiting Vancouver and only have time for one mexican spot, make it La Taqueria.
We came in debating between the cheese fondue and the baby back ribs, and thankfully our server steered us toward the ribs. That recommendation alone deserves recognition because what arrived at our table was one of the most memorable dishes I’ve had in a very long time.
The Baja taco and beef taco were both delicious ? fresh, flavorful, and exactly what you’d hope for from a place known for tacos. But the baby back ribs completely stole the spotlight. The moment they arrived, all attention shifted to them.
The sauce was extraordinary. Rich and buttery with a gentle kick of spice, but what really impressed me was how layered the flavor was. You could actually taste the individual spices instead of just getting generic heat. I could swear there was cumin in there, and it paired beautifully with the pork. Every bite revealed something new.
The ribs themselves were cooked to perfection. Tender, juicy, and clearly slow-cooked with incredible care. They practically melted apart while still maintaining enough texture to feel substantial. As someone who normally isn’t a fan of bones in meat, I didn’t care in the slightest..I was too busy enjoying every bite. We even joked that, “This pig definitely had friends,” because the quality of the meat was that noticeable.
The presentation was beautiful, the carrots added brightness and balance, and the whole dish felt thoughtfully composed rather than overly heavy.
And I can’t finish this review without mentioning the jalapeño margarita, which remains one of my favorite cocktails in the city. The perfect combination of citrus, heat, and refreshment.
The tacos were excellent. The margarita was excellent. But the baby back ribs were unforgettable.
Some dishes are good. Some dishes make you want to come back. These ribs are the reason we’ll be returning to La Taqueria. ❤️???

Watashi Sushi & Kitchen
7341 Edmonds St, BurnabyI almost walked past this place because the exterior looks a bit dated and the surrounding area isn’t particularly eye-catching. The dining room is also quite small and the interior could definitely use some updating. However, the high ratings convinced me to give it a try, and I’m glad I did.
I ordered the aburi sushi combo, a tamago nigiri, and a miso soup.
The miso soup was probably the weakest part of the meal. It tasted like a fairly standard instant-style miso soup with soft tofu and rehydrated seaweed. One small suggestion: the soup bowl I received was very heavily scratched from years of use. As I got further into the soup, it became difficult to tell whether the marks were simply wear or if the bowl wasn’t completely clean. Replacing some of the older bowls would improve the overall dining experience.
The real highlight was the aburi sushi combo. It took a little longer than expected to arrive, but once it did, I understood why. The presentation was beautiful, the variety was excellent, and the quality of the fish really stood out. Every piece had great flavor, the fish was fresh and nicely marbled, and the torching added a wonderful aroma. Considering the price, it’s honestly an outstanding value and something I’d definitely recommend ordering.
My only suggestion for the aburi sushi is that it was slightly oilier than necessary. It looked like the sushi was torched directly on the serving plate, leaving quite a bit of rendered fish oil underneath. The rice had already absorbed some of the oil from the fish, and then picked up even more from the plate. It wasn’t greasy enough to ruin the dish, but it did make the overall bite a little heavier. I think torching the sushi first and plating it afterward could help preserve the same great flavor while keeping the rice lighter.
The tamago nigiri was just okay. It tasted like the tamago had been refrigerated and reheated before serving, so it lacked the soft, freshly made texture I was hoping for. To be fair, I visited around 4 p.m. and I was the only customer, so I completely understand why they weren’t making fresh tamago at that time. It was a little disappointing, but not a dealbreaker.
The service was friendly and efficient. Nothing particularly exceptional, but definitely pleasant.
Overall, despite the dated interior, the quality of the sushi exceeded my expectations. With a few small improvements, this place could be even better. I’d happily come back again, especially for the aburi sushi combo.
