“This is a long overdue review for OTF Foster City! A tad bit long so read at your own leisure.First off, I’ve always wondered about OTF (see them all over the bay area) but never really liked (or tried) any workout classes in general since I'm quite the introvert. When I go to the gym, I’m not there to socialize, I just want a good workout. Plus I’ve peeked inside OTF before and I wasn’t so sure about how dim and orangy the classrooms looked ?.After gaining "COVID +19" pounds and failing miserably on my own to regain my health, I decided to give OTF Foster City a try. Free introductory class, why not?When I arrived, I was greeted by Rachel (the mgmr) who gave me the spiel on the philosophy and approach of OTF. I was immediately impressed by how patient and knowledgeable she was in answering all my questions. Why is the room orange? Do we actually use all three areas (treadmill, rower, weights)? How do you squeeze in so much in 1 hour? Is this like a competition where you try to beat other classmates? How much interaction is there between the members during class? ???Soon it was class time, my mind was racing and feeling anxious about what the experience was going to be like. Fast forward 1 hour later, my shirt is drenched in sweat (not a great visual, I know?). All I can say is “Wow, that was a good workout!” but I wasn’t sure if I heard/followed all the instructions correctly ?. In my mind, I was amazed how Coach Vic was able to coach 3 groups of people in different areas all at the same time! And each group even gets new instructions every couple of minutes with her counting down the time and cheering everyone on. (I told Coach Vic that I get a workout just thinking about how to run a class like what she did!)After the trial class I shared with Rachel that the class was amazing and I did get a good workout,. But I also thought it was fast paced and a bit hectic. She then explained it’s a 3G class (3 groups) which she then offered a 2G class for me to try again. As it turns out, there are actually a couple different class types that we can pick from, some even have special focus areas. I still wasn’t sure if I was going to get the hang of the class but why not. In my mind, I thought I did get a good workout and because the class was kinda dim, the introvert in me didn’t mind ? I also noticed socialization was minimal since the other members were too busy pushing themselves to get the best workout as well.The 2G class experience was equally just as amazing?! I had an excellent workout and this time I knew what to expect and started to notice my heart rate and the colored zone I was in during the workout. Fast forward again to 2 months later, I’m happy to share that I'm half way toward my goal of ridding my “Covid +19” ?. I now look forward to my weekly OTF classes, uses the OT Beat Burn monitor to make sure I’m pushing myself hard enough and got to know many more awesome coaches at OTF Foster City (?Coach Ashley, Jazz, Toni).If you are curious and still debating whether you should give OTF a try, I say go for it!”

“All around, the front staff makes a big difference. Devinn's orientation, the workout and the technology. The workout is easy to follow. I got real luck, because my first instructor was Kalli who has great energy! I had one workout where my rower didn't capture my data. That was a big bummer and I hope they can fix that. I think long term if the data didn't capture, I would reduce my score to a 8 or 7. Overall, this location is well-run, clean and a great vibe. I was hesitant with all the monitors, but after orientation with Devinn, I was comfortable.”

“I LOVE the xformer machine (it's by far my favorite) and there's only a few studios out here that use it. MPX was the closest studio to me so I tried them out first, and I'm so happy I did! I love their class format and their instructors! Granted, I've only taken it with one instructor so far but she's incredibly talented - she's patient, kind, mindful of everyone's differences (in terms of level/comfort/strength), explains proper form and how to engage different muscles (e.g., if you want to make an exercise more quad dominant vs glutes), and never forgets if there's someone in class that has a limitation and/or needs a modification due to an injury. I've tried a few other studios around here and the only thing they have over this one is better packages ($savings). If you can afford to splurge a little, choose this studio (sign up now!). I promise you won't regret it.”

“This gym is a hidden gem. Joining TFT has been one of the best decisions of my life! It has made me stronger and less prone to illnesses and injury. Additionally, I have found a community of friends at the gym who are welcoming and encouraging. I completed the Spartan Race at the SF Giants' stadium in December 2022 with a team of TFT members, without whom it would have been impossible for me to complete the race. I have also lost weight based on my participation in a wellness program with Eric. Eric has a wealth of knowledge and is great at providing input when needed. Do not be shy to ask him.”

“Possibly the best fish and chips you'll ever have. Fresh off the boat sea bass lightly battered with Panko and not at all greasy. The fries were just as good. The sea bass has a sweetness to it that's really fantastic and melts in your mouth. Unlike denser cod or halibut it barely requires chewing. The food is 5 stars. Gave 4 because the service could have been better. The last time we were here was 3 years ago and it's what brought us back. Try it. You won't be disappointed. Guaranteed. ?”

Shelly is always experimenting with new postures. “I've been training with Jean on and off for past couple of years, as my travel schedule allows. I enjoy the small group training environment, because you form the comradery that helps motivate the whole group. The groups are much smaller than typical gym classes, so that I get plenty of one on one instruction time. This is important for me, because I have recurring right knee pain from an old soccer injury, so I'm always asking for guidance on how to improve my condition and alternate exercises that won't aggravate my knee. Jean is very knowledgeable and I'm happy to say my knee has improved under her guidance. I will continue to enjoy her positive teaching style and my improved health.”

“I've lifted for a few years now, spread out over time. But coming to Coach Mark's gym I quickly realized I don't have a few years of lifting experience, I have the same year of lifting experience repeated for a few years. What happened? Poor form, injuries, overtraining, ego. In my first session with Mark I immediately learned that my form led to instability. Fixing that, I felt my squat secure and confident. This is the theme of Fullgrip. Low ego, form focused, and strategically shifting to heavier weights so its sustainable in the long term. While I lifted, I saw around me both beginner, novice, intermediate and heavy lifters. One person was squatting 500 for one, while another was repping less than a plate. I would recommend this gym highly if you are someone who resonates with the above. If you have commitment issues, and needs a more personal touch to kick your ass if you start getting off track, I would say a more 1-1 personal trainer is probably ideal. But if you have the right commitment to show up a few times a week on schedule, and are looking for someone to level you up past plateaus in a safe, long term effective way, I highly recommend FullGrip Barbell and coach Mark.”

“I have been training at Opex San Juan for almost a year and a half. During a recent work/vacation trip to San Francisco, I s for in the atea anound Opex Kura. Melissa promptly answered all my questions and welcomed me to visit her gym. All the equipment and machines are in excellent conditions and neatly organized. Furthermore, the floor coaches, Melissa and Josh, were astounding…those kind of trainers that not only advise you on the adequate position for your exercises, but further explain why, when and where you should move, push, extend, and feel the pressure. Definitely, having other Opex gyms focused on individualized training (not a crossfit box) while traveling is another benefit for joining this community. Thanks Melissa and Josh!!!”

“I've been going to Fernando for about a year now for personal training.I've had several coaches in weightlifting, bodybuilding, yoga, and crossfit. I've also worked with several physical therapists over the years for injuries both acute and chronic (broken arm, neck pain).My goals have changed over the years. I'm in my 30s and work at a desk most of the day. My primary goal now is health and wellness. I want to be strong and mobile.No coach has contributed to my wellbeing as much as Fernando.I haven't felt this capable and pain-free in years. I visited as a walk-in last week and loved HGX so much that I came back for a second class... while on vacation, no less. “I recently completed the 12 week transformation with Sam and I am so grateful for all that I learned and gained (and lost!) throughout the entire process. I highly recommend this gym and the 12 week transformation to anyone who is ready and serious about improving their health and transform not only physically but mentally and emotionally in the best way. I heard about the 12 week transformation from a friend and I instantly knew that this was something that I needed to get into to kickstart my health journey that I longed for but had no idea how to start. (For context, I have a 5-year-old son and after giving birth, my health declined and my wellbeing was no longer a priority.) Sam and I met for a consultation and immediately he made it very clear that my lifestyle was going to do a complete 180, but he assured me he was going to be there for me every step of the way - I needed the accountability! With Sam's coaching and training, I was able to lose 49lbs in the 12 weeks. 49lbs!!! “I've been working out here 4x a week for the last month from around 9-11am. It's basically always nearly empty, which I love. They have all of the barbells, bumper plates, training plates, many squat racks and lifting benches and all of the machines I'd consider using. If you like to lift it's basically perfect. The environment is more chill and personal than a. Corporate gym but less pressure than a personal training only gym. I have been doing the semi private training which is ideal for helping me get back into lifting after a 10 year break. I didn't know what semi private training is; it's not a class, it just means they get you all set up and check in form and help with workout design and check in on you several times during your workout and see if you have questions and are using good form but they aren't hovering over you every minute of the workout (which I did not like from personal training in the past.) there are personal trainers and their clients from time to time and they seem to have fun but that's not really my thing. I expect that in 6 months or so I will have a solid foundation and will transition to a regular gym membership here. It's great to have that flexibility.”

I decided to do the 6 week challenge and I can't believe I'm saying this but within the first week it changed my life. “I have been taking classes from Kelly (HIIT, Boot Camp, Kick Boxing, Spin...etc) for years. I am the type that needs the class to be fun, filled with good music, and throw in a few laughs. Her classes check all the boxes, and the group/community there is a huge bonus. She is great at encouraging you to push yourselves, but the classes allow you the flexibility to dial up or down the intensity based on your comfort level or how you feel that day ;). I highly recommend giving this place a try. I find fitness is important for the health of your mind and body. I leave my classes here feeling like I have achieved both.”

“I've never done a rowing class before and took a class with a friend of mine who is a member. It was a great workout. Staff were friendly, provided a tour of facility and walked me through everything I needed to know as a newbie. It's a smaller, boutique gym so there aren't showers but they have clean and spacious bathrooms where you can change. They went over membership pricing and bulk/individual class costs without being too pushy.”
