Joshua Tree Pet Resort
63381 Quail Springs Rd, Joshua TreeHaving recently moved to the area, I was so happy to be referred to the Joshua Tree Pet Resort. By several locals, I might add. Christina is by far the most caring and compassionate person I have ever left my 15 pound pup with. My pup has a tendency to be a bit anxious, but she settled right in, and now looks forward to her visits. Maybe a but too much! ;) I take her for day care regularly, and recently left her for a long weekend. She did beautifully! I can't say enough good things about Christina and the services she provides. I trust her implicitly, and know that every time I leave my pup in her care, I can go about my day with peace of mind.

The DEZ fine food - takeaway - espresso
61705 29 Palms Hwy, Joshua TreeI would definitely come here again and recommend trying it out for a meal or camping/hiking provisions. I had the Hummus & Lentil (V) - seasoned lentils tossed with lemon vinaigrette, baby lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes & red onion served on pita bread. I recommend eating it all together on the pita rather than deconstructing it with your fork, by the way! I also had the vegan sausage roll and thought it was excellent. And I know sausage rolls – they are one of my all-time favorite foods. The Beyond Meat sausage was combined with delicious pastry that was slightly spicy – I think they used Hot Italian sausages. And do not ignore the homemade ketchup that goes with it – it’s really good! Staff members were very friendly and the restaurant is fun, unpretentious and stocked with good provisions. It’s also dog-friendly, according to a cute write-up on DogTrekker : ) I’m giving the Dez 4/5 Green Stars for social and environmental impact, based on the following: • A good chunk of the menu is suitable for vegetarians and vegans. Reducing our meat intake is a key action for mitigating climate change, deforestation, water use, water pollution, and of course animal suffering. • Some ingredients for vegan dishes are organic – chickpeas for the wrap, brown rice for the Buddha bowl and cocoa for the almond joy date balls. • It’s an inclusive restaurant – an important feature in this climate. • Room for improvement: skip the beef as it really has ridiculously big environmental footprints (carbon and land) compared to eggs, chicken, and pork. Use compostable to-go boxes instead of polypropylene.

Joshua Tree Coffee Company
61738 29 Palms Hwy, Joshua TreeThe coffee beans are pretty good – I had the Mellow Ethiopian (light roast) and The First Roast (medium/dark roast blend of Colombian, Honduran and Ethiopian beans). Both made good coffee but I would say go for the Mellow Ethiopian if choosing between the two, depending on your roast preference. Even if you don’t make it to the café, you’ll find the coffee all over the region – The Dez and the Frontier Café, for example (both excellent places with lots of veggie options).\n\nI’m giving Joshua Tree Coffee 3.5/5 Green Stars for social and environmental impact, based on the following:\n• All beans are certified organic. This is one of the best certifications to look out for if you want to buy coffee that has a lower environmental impact. It’s not as good as shade-grown – the Smithsonian’s Bird-friendly certification requires that beans are both organic and shade-grown.\n• The coffee used to be fair trade certified. However, none of the beans currently on sale are fair trade certified. I'd expect that for beans that sell for $24-29 per lb.\n• There’s surprisingly little on the website about coffee sourcing. At the moment there’s one single-origin coffee (Sulawesi Sunrise) with a short blurb based on the green coffee supplier’s blurb.\n• It’s great that they have committed to organic beans for all products but there are two areas for improvement:\n• One: Sourcing some fair trade beans or developing an equitable direct trade relationship with some farmers.\n• Two: This is less critical, but it would be nice to see them use compostable packaging.

Joshua Tree Saloon
61835 29 Palms Hwy, Joshua TreeWe had two dinners here. It's a great place for a beer and a burger. It is loud, lively and spirited. Service is not fast but you can't be in a hurry when you come here. I recommend it.
